Plastic vs. Metal

Pros: Great price for a big shredder

Cons: Looks can be deceiving. The motor speed seems sluggish (I've used smaller shredders that run faster). It says you can shred CDs, however mine jammed anytime I inserted one. After about 6 months of paper shredding, a gear finally gave out. After inspecting the unit I found the gear was made from PLASTIC which contributed to its pre-mature failure (Part VF1012MX-08 GEARS #2). I was able to contact ROYAL to purchase parts (800-222-2310) and turns out they sell replacement gears in plastic and metal.....METAL is my choice

Other Thoughts: If they only told you which ones they sell with plastic gears and which ones have metal gears.
