iRiver P7
- Pros: Great video and sound. People who complain about the software want something that does everything for them. Nothing on the software disc is necessary, unless you need to convert movies. Plug the P7 into the USB port of a PC with Win XP and Win XP loads it as a USB Mass Storage Device. Then, you open Windows Explorer and drag the folders containing your MP3s into the "Music" folder on the P7 (P7 opens like any other drive in Windows). It is that easy and this is a high tech item with lots of features. A steal at $100. The touch screen is a great feature and it has a good selection of sound equalizers.
- Cons: An arm band with a see thru face would have been a nice touch. The one I found for another brand wasn't large enough. Have to settle for a "total enclosure" one and resort to a play list (could have operated the touch screen thru a clear cover).
no .MKV support
- Pros: Nice design, beautiful 4.3" touch screen, very appealing to the eyes
Superb audio quality. Build in speaker.
Coming from JDX951, P7 has much more processing power since I was able to skip through video playback with no lag at all.
Touch screen to view video in full screen. very important when viewing movie with subtitles since the control bar on the bottom can block the subs.
- Cons: for $99.99 there is none.
- Other Thoughts: Wish the player can handle .mkv video format because majority of my video files are in .mkv format and the converting software from iRiver can't handle .mkv at all.
Untill iRiver release a firmware update that can support .mkv video formate, I will have to use P7 for Audio only. Suck wast of the big screen.
Iriver should invest in writing a firmware that can play .mkv and .ogg video files because these file format have better quality compare to .avi
I updated my firmware fine using the updater from iRiver driver cd.
Great video player
- Pros: Received P7 from NewEgg yesterday and used the movie converter to load several HD wmv and avi files to the devide. No issues playing those files! The picture was clear and sound was not off at all. Did not try to upgrade firmware due other warnings on the Net. Price of $99 was a great bargain!
- Cons: This is being picky, but:
1. Did not come with cradle like shown in picture. 2. A cover would be nice for keeping the screen from getting scratched. 3. Support website is awful! Slow and hard to look for things. Not too user friendly!
