2 out of 5 eggsGreat while it lasted

Pros: Played most videos, some flv's didn't work. Nice LCD.

Cons: Not touchscreen, Controls on side fell apart. Now it's a paperweight albeit an expensive one. Laggy interface.

Other Thoughts: I do not recommend this at all.

4 out of 5 eggsGood for Video

Pros: Handles just about any video codec or container. I mostly use AVC/AAC MP4 at 720*480, 2Mbps. Fits in shirt pocket. Glossy screen looks nice. Can take NTFS formatted micro SD. Works well with self-powered external hard disk. Can copy direct from external to internal memory without computer. Simple navigation. Remembers your place if you exit video. Boot/shutdown speed OK. Knowledgeable tech support answers phone. SRT subtitle support.

Cons: Boring user interface -- just file and folder names. No cover art, no previews. So-called "ebook" means it will auto scroll TXT file. No track info from WMA files. Starts back at home screen every power up. No chapter skip: hold-button-down single-speed fast forward/rewind. Was told by tech support that remote is not available. Mine has 1 stuck grey pixel in the bottom left corner. Came with a shorted USB/round power cable - but not needed since it will charge from USB port. Low volume from internal speaker on back. No native subtitles.

Other Thoughts: Don't pay too much attention to my nit-picking. Think of it as a good video player that happens to support audio files. Win7 sees it as external disk "YES-PMP500". Very similar device on YES website lists more features than mine has. No firmware updates ever posted.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat video, lousy MP3 player

Pros: Excellent video playback, great sound and long battery life

Cons: Limited viewing angles. Terrible MP3 interface. Cheaply built. External SD card is treated like a red-headed stepchild. No support for iTunes 10 AAC or album art. No PDF e-book support.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to use both functions:video and music. While it excels at video playback (with a few minor quirks) the music UI is unusable and the build quality leaves much to be desired.

I had no problems playing any MP4, h.264 or AVI files that I threw at it but it would occasionally barf on h.264 + AAC files ripped with DVDFab 8 (no sound). Other than that it works great with razor sharp and fluid picture quality. The viewing angles could be better.

The music UI is a different matter. To begin with it will only categorize MP3 files on the internal memory card, the external SD is only accessible via the file browser. Not only is this inconvenient but it locks the machine up for several minutes *every* time you access it. Forget playlists and album art as they are not supported, nor is iTunes 10 AAC files (the unencrypted type, not DRM'd files). There is no way to turn off the resume playback "feature" so it will grind to a halt during random playback and ask if you wish to resum

4 out of 5 eggsFeedback

Pros: >GUI, Interface easy to use.
>Accepts more video formats that listed in the manual.
>Video playback has many more features that other PVP models i have.
>Have not had a need to re-encode any of my videos to fit the screen.
> Battery life is very good.

Cons: Though these are not show stoppers.
as with almost all PVP players when you view these with a slight angle from the bottom the screen gets dark. This one is more susceptible to that. Though if watching head on its just fine.
The side button for most of the functions does feel a bit cheap, like i might expect it to break anytime soon. But who knows it may outlast me.

Other Thoughts: I have owned 4 PVP players ranging from 4.3" to 7"
After getting this one, i sold both my 4.3" an made this my new favorite for taking places.

I would recommend this to my friends.
