4 out of 5 eggsNot bad

Pros: -Small/light
-Takes SD cards
-Plays many different formats

Cons: -What happens when the battery starts to go?
-Software menu is lag-ish
-only charges with wall outlet plug (no USB charging????)

Other Thoughts: I bought this for my daughter who is about 16mos. Loaded it up with whatever she's into at the moment and hit play. It's saved me from many screaming car rides, where it's the only place that it's used. I tried a couple movies for myself when I first got it, MP4 and AVI, no issues with either. I saw a slight stutter here and there with a 1080 copy of transformers, no big deal. Also, in the first week, I saw a thin green line defect in the screen, I almost RMA'd it but I don't think my daughter cares if DJ Lance has a green line through's hardly noticeable and has since went away. Also, this thing is pretty durable, my daughter got a hold of it one day and threw it as far a 1yr old can throw something across the garage floor. It's still running fine.
I would say for the money and that it's for a works well. I would rather watch something on my iphone personally.

5 out of 5 eggsThis is my 2nd unit!

Pros: This is my 2nd unit. I bought one last year from another online retailer (around $80). For >$100, this media player can handle MKV, RMVB, AVI, and many other formats. Whatever video I can find online, I download them and transfer to this player; no problem playing any videos so far. I mainly use this for videos when having long road trip, so I am not sure about the audio quality. This player comes with different cables and charger in the box. FYI: you can change the volume by clicking the square button (the outside rim wrapping the center square play button) left (to decrease) or right (to increase); clicking up and down would be rewind and fast forward for videos. You can resume any video from where you left off last time (the player will create a small file to store the information), so you can have 10 movies going on at the same time and will be able to resume all of them from where you left off. Matte (body and screen) finish is great. Also a photo viewer (slide show)!

Cons: You cannot recharge it via USB; therefore, you won't be able to charge while transferring files.

Other Thoughts: You can use it as a photo viewer. It will play all photos as a slide show, with music too (as long as you have music files stored internally or memory that the player can access). It's on sale now for $85 (I bought it when it was $70!!!), you don't really have to think twice. I was going to get either the Kindle Fire or Nook Tablet; however, after doing a research, they don't play a lot of video formats, and you have to convert the video files to specific ratio, resolution, size, and it's tricky to sideload I just bought this again...having 2 now in my car with headrest brackets as rear entertainment system, all just under $200!!!!

1 out of 5 eggsIt broke

Pros: When it worked, it was good enough as a portable video player.

Cons: It broke after 11 months of use.

Other Thoughts: They did not honor the 1 year warranty (I was told my problem wasn't covered). Be warned that this company has iffy quality control and integrity.

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad

Pros: It plays the 1080p 60fps home video in mp4 format perfectly. Which means it does support the playback of the true full hd, not the fake ones like 1080i and 720p! Good photo frame too!

Cons: 4GB internal memory is useless. In order to play larger files, have to convert the SDHC card to NTFS, kind of annoying. Access time to some mkv files is FOREVER.

4 out of 5 eggsMake sure you encode as mkv

Pros: The Aluratek CinePal APMP101F is a nice product for its price range. The screen is very clear (no dead pixels) and the software offers a clean interface. No problems at all reading SD cards although be aware that access speeds vary from card to card. Your card may not be fast enough for some FF or REW speeds.

Do make sure that you use the MKV format instead of MP4. I have not had any problems playing movies and files in mkv format, but have had severe video lag when using MP4 with H264 encoding

Cons: MP4 files can evidence significant video lag. This makes the video experience painful. Using MKV format remedies this.

4 out of 5 eggsUse class 8 or 10 cards

Pros: Nice screen, plays many types of files, speaker is decently loud, good screen size.Uses SD cards instead of hard to handle Micro SD cards.Excellent all round video player.

Cons: Sometimes it has trouble with subtitles, can't seem to change the color of the subtitle just the border of the letters.Sometimes I have to press harder than normal on the square D pad to get it to respond. Can feel the battery get warm while playing.

Other Thoughts: Bought this to play VOB files. No issues with choppy or freezing play back as long as you use USB thumb drive or a class 6,8 or 10 SD card.A class 6 SD card will freeze for a couple of seconds if I FF to next VOB chapter,Once it catches up video playback is smooth as butter.

4 out of 5 eggsExactly as advertised!

Pros: -I've thrown about 20 files at it, it's played all but one.
- Screen resolution is outstanding
- Lack of touch screen keeps screen nice and clean
- Battery life is about 4 hours, more than I need
- Extremely thin and looks like a tablet!
- Good quality sound playback.

Cons: - While it can take USB flash drives, you need a female USB adapter cord to do so. (The cord comes with the player at least)
- Stand could be better, I'm not a fan of the viewing angle it gives.

Other Thoughts: Overall this is an outstanding way to watch movies or tv shows on an airplane or on a long car ride. I'm a beyond frustrated with the other reviews of this product. This isn't an ipad. If you want an ipad, buy one, it costs 5 times as much as this product. For $100 this is a deal!

I was hesitant to buy this after reading some of the other reviews on here, but I'd highly recommend this instead of a tablet if you just want to watch movies or listen to music on a plane or during a long car trip!

2 out of 5 eggsBroke within a week

Pros: The unit can play an impressive amount of video formats. It's just the right size and weight.

Cons: * Battery does not last long.
* Incredibly slow (loading, responses to button clicks, etc)
* No real user manual.
* Not intuitive (had to contact support to find out how to change the volume)
* The user interface is cheesy 1990's tech looking.
* It stopped working after a week

Other Thoughts: I still gave the unit 2 stars because I think it has potential. Good idea and great price, but they need to work on the quality.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Works great, does exactly what it's suppose to and a little more.I like the buttons. It plays everything I want it to.Which is every format it lists.I have not had one choppy play yet.H8 people who write reviews when they don't know what they are talking about.OF COURSE there's a volume button control. There is also 3 speeds of fast forwards and rewind. Even a skip button u can log in the exact time of the movie u want to go to.

Cons: Kick myself for not buying 3.I bought it for 2 digits with free shipping.

Other Thoughts: Wow, had to write this review due to the fact of all the negatives that were definitely from people with no technical knowledge at all.Cosmo had no idea what he was talking about.I'm not saying his didn't work,it's just if he couldn't keep it on long enough to watch a movie how can he say what it did or didn't.It does what it says it will do.Read my pro's and get a little more info.I would personally buy again and will suggest it to friends. My best friend bought one and his works great too.
