4 out of 5 eggsHighly Recommended

Pros: -Android ;)
-Expand the memory via micro sd's .
-User End battery change
-A lot of movie formats can be played without converting them.
- Apps
- Hackable for the Tech Savy

Cons: -Touch screen isn't as good as some others out there.
-GPS doesn't acquire satellites very well (didn't get it for GPS)
-For the Tech Savy

Other Thoughts: I needed a new MP3 player since my other MP3 was full.
Not being a huge fan of all their hype and their proprietary attitude . I decided to go with the Archos 5 Internet tablet and I couldn't be happier.

With some research you can install Android Market.

3 out of 5 eggsArchos can't seem to get right

Pros: superb video quality, handles many codecs (both audio and video), has decent battery life, micro sd, great screen...although not capacitive...it still responds great. if any of you are familiar with good htc devices such as the HTC Tilt or the Diamond, or even touch pro...it's kind of like those. great response..even though it's a resistive touch screen. Great sound quality, very good build.

Cons: here we go...takes forever to charge. around 10 hours. archos did this on purpose so you would have to buy all those other features like the battery dock. tried every firmware...you tube does not work. although dailymotion does. strange. horrible market place. they have their own.

Other Thoughts: Archos keeps getting so close. I also owned the 605 wifi and the Vision 3. They seem to pack amazing features into tiny devices that sound good on paper...but when you use it...it's so disappointing. Why would you ship a item that doesn't fully work? even if it's youtube...i mean, HOW CAN YOU MESS UP ANDROID?! REALLY?! LOL...anywho...i'm still rooting for them. Their next gen players look like they will be worth trading this one in for. they will be out sometime in October. look em up on the archos site. they will also feature android 2.2 rather than 1.6...let's hope all of the features work. Also, i would like to mention that you can install the original Android Marketplace on here through a simple hack. It works for me. Still...it should be standard. Archos is the most nickle and diming company ever. lol, by the time you bought all the addons you could've bought two of these players.

4 out of 5 eggsVersatile, make sure to update

Pros: Accelerated 3D (OpenGL), large screen for mobile tablet (versus a smartphone), good wifi signal, cell phone tethering, 800x480 screen resolution and 720p video. Huge variety of videos can be played, avi, mpeg4, h264, mkv). Mostly stable with firmware updates. The casing (metal construction) is solid except for the plastic areas which feel a bit cheap. 4 Hours of video playback, got up to 17 hours of music on a full battery. Beautful color on the screen.

Cons: Weak GPS, takes forever to lock on or it won't lock on at all. Very slow charging via USB cable. Would take 8-10 hours to fully charge. No Android Marketplace (but you can get it installed if you look). To get h.264 support you have to buy the plugin. Archo's applib (their version of marketplace) is pretty weak. The back does get pretty warm when running it for a while. FM Transmitter is pretty weak signal-wise, and the ear phones it comes with aren't that great. If you have a good pair of earbuds, sound quality is really good. External speaker quality isn't that good, but I use earbuds all the time. Resistant Touch Screen not capacitive, but very responsive nonetheless.

Other Thoughts: I first received the Archos as a Christmas gift when it was still under the Cupcake Android version (1.5). Things were bumpy and it did require restarts and to reset it. Two months later, they released Donut for it, and things have gotten much much better. They do release monthly updates to add features and make the tablet even more stable.

Most important thing is to update the firmware to the latest! I've seen reviews on other sites that put the Archos down, but are using old reviews of the firmware from when it was first released. Archos has turned this around and turned into into a stable handy mobile device.

5 out of 5 eggsArchos 5

Pros: I bought this little tablet for on the go entertainment. With my memory cards I download movies and music on them for on the go entertainment by tethering my blackberry I can actually see what is on the screen when I surf the web. this is my first experience with the Android operating system and it has been very good so far. Picture is awesome. Navigation is handy

Cons: None, but I did my homework before purchasing

Other Thoughts: Do your homework before purchasing. Make sure that you get the right model that suits your needs. I have a desktop and a laptop so I just wanted a little something that I could keep on me all the time.
