4 out of 5 eggsDecent for Price

Pros: Small Size, Simple Features, USB connection

Cons: Cheap construction

Other Thoughts: Keep in mind that you're getting what you pay for. So this device is not of superior quality and features, but it does exactly what I purchased it for.
It can also serve as a voice recorder and a USB thumbdrive.

1 out of 5 eggsShady Centon

Pros: The mp3 player would have been the ideal mp3 player for budget had it not failed, and had to be replaced with a different model with less features and a limit to its overall life. Darned if you do, darned if you don't.

Cons: This is a discontinued model. If it fails, and it certainly might, you will get a seriously less downgrade, which I propose to file a class action lawsuit against. After my first device failed, and the replacement failed within weeks of receipt, I was issued a Centon Craze mp3 model. They state no other option was available. This model has built in batteries, which means you have to throw it out after the rechargables fail and you have to leave your computer turned on to charge it for 4 to 6 hours! What kind of ridiculous method is that. I could have purchased a few generac batteries for a buck or two. Now the mp3 player will be wasted and thrown out, like garbage. There is also no LOCK feature to prevent it from being pressed accidentally. When I plugged it in, the USB2.0 indictator came on to state that plugging it into 2.0 would be better, though that port is, and the previous mp3 player worked fine on. I have GBs of music and a perfect ASUS MOBO. OK, now no USB 2.0.

Other Thoughts: Thanks for nothing Centon. I have read countless comments about failed devices. Yes, the mp3 player is somewhat nifty and sweet, but your gambling with a shady company, who in my opinion is wronging you, quite deliberatly. I recommend class action lawsuit, since they authorize returns without warning about such replacement issues prior to receiving the device. I would buy this device for $15, only just to test out if they are ripping us all off. Someone should make people hear about this is the future. Product failures? Get lost Centon!

What a horrible thing to happen to nice guys like us trying to purchase a music player for our enjoyment. What creeps!

4 out of 5 eggsbest mp3 player for the money

Pros: I have bought three of these over the past 3 years. All have worked great. Just bought a new one a couple weeks ago for my dad who broke his first one by crushing it. They have done some nice updates. The controls are alot more responsive now. It is possible to keep the lights from changing colors if you go to system settings and backlight under that setting. It allows you to change colors by moving a slider across a color bar (there are like seven color presets). The songs can be arranged in folders on your computer and the centon will keep that folder structure. However in order to browse folders, you have to pause whatever song you are playing then push in the mode button to bring up the folder option. To get to the main options, just turn on the centon move left and right by pushing the mode button left or right then press down on the mode button to make the selection. Also be sure to set the equalizer to headphones. Do this by playing a song and push down the mode....

Cons: button to bring up the options menu. Remember, paused song pressing mode button brings up folder browsing, playing song pressing mode button brings up equalizer and repeat song options. The player does have directions but they suck. They will automatically load when the player is plugged into a computer. Also I don't recommend installing the audio program that tries to load when it is plugged into your computer. It is a waste of time and space. All you have to do is go to my computer, locate the centon player, open it to view files, create a folder named music, drag and drop files into that folder. I have constantly got 10 hours play time from one battery for years in mine (I bought 1 and 2 for my dad since he crushed one). Make sure you buy some good earphones. The ones that come with the player are only fit for the trash. I recommend the creative ep-630 (ones made for dell are really cheap to buy) or skull candy inner ear earphones if you want the best sound for your buck.

Other Thoughts: I know I did not seperate the pros and cons correctly but since centon is not very responsive with their tech support. I wanted to help those who bought this player by explaining the instructions a little more. It took me three hours to find the folder structure under the new firmware that they are including on this player. I like it but it was very hard to find. Also the instructions give rules like you can only have 99 folders inside of your music folder; however, each cd takes about 100mb if you use mp3 format. If you have one cd per folder, this player will only hold about 40 cds or folders anyway so I don't think this information is really that helpful. If anything they spent time explaining this pointless fact, when they could have told people how to get to the folder layout. I hope this helps all that buy this player. G - o - d bless.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheap for 4GB, works well & has more features then my old Phillips that cost twice as much. Doubles as a USB flash drive.

Cons: Slow USB transfer rates for sure. 800KB to 1.2MB is all ive seen. Flash media is obviously not quality, but for this price its worth it.

Other Thoughts: Users manual is a preloaded PDF on the drive.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat value

Pros: Cheap, reliable, sound is great, drag and drop, folder playing, good battery life, UI reasonable as opposed to someone claiming hard to navigate. While it does not look great, but it beats my Phillips GoGear 8GB (died after a short time), Sandisk 2GB (noisy when starting a new song), 1 of my Creative player 4GB (firmware unstable).

If you need a cheap MP3 player that works, this is it.

Cons: Not really - UI is not pretty and needs a bit learning, but that's all - you can do almost everything as fast as using other players. It is a bit bulky, but still quite small and light.

Other Thoughts: It uses a AAA battery, a good one should last over 15 hour easily.

Also, I bought 2 from egg for $15 each, which means I can afford losing one.

It is quite solid with strong plastic shell, though looks cheaply built.

Pros: None

Cons: Recieved 2 that did not work at all. Had them replaced and now I can load music but can't see it or play it. Would never reccommend this to any one.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great price, allows me to drag'n'drop my music into folders. Battery life is much better than I expected (one battery lasted me blasting it into my headphones for 26 hours while I drove from TX to UT). Certainly not an iPod killer, but if you're bitter, this might work for you.

Cons: The interface is quite horrible,. The backlight changes colors every time I press a button. I tried looking at the instructions, which state that there is an option to select either a single background color or put it in "rainbow" mode, but couldn't find the same thing in the menu. I then went online to try and install a firmware update and found nothing except an unstable app called "mp3driver98.exe" and a spanish version of the manual. But, hey, for twenty bucks, what can you do?

Other Thoughts: Guess I'll just stick to making it look like a Care Bears marathon every time I navigate my library, but when I'm ready to pick me up a woman this'll have to go in the garbage.

2 out of 5 eggsNot a good value

Pros: -It plays mp3's/wma's
-It's cheap
-4GB

Cons: -Menu system is very unintuitive, hard to navigate, and slow
-Bulky, it didn't fit in a few usb ports on multiple desktops
-Can't play wav/flac/ogg not that many players can but the sansa clip for not much more $ can play these files, because it can't play these lossless formats overall music quality suffers
-Only 99 songs per folder
-Can't see all songs in all folder at once
-Random mode only works for one folder at a time
-Random mode repeats song back to back often

Other Thoughts: If you are absolutely strapped for cash then buy it, it will do it's job. For a few dollars more you will get a much better experience.
