It's a OLED touch-screen equipped Zune running a Tegra chip...
It's a huge evolutionary leap over the previous Zunes and the interfaces have been translated beautifully.
The hardware is snappy, responsive, rotating from Portrait to Landscape while viewing a photo occurs in literally under a second.
The framework for apps is there and there are a small handful of games available. The tilt functionality of SpaceBattle 2 (a Galaga clone) was accurate and easy to use, easily played due to the low weight of the device...which brings me to
SIZE: It's screen is wider than that of the classic zune (30,80,120) and shorter, due to its' 16:9 aspect ratio. The device is .35 inches thick and weighs barely a couple ounces. Very pocketable, light enough to use while working out.
And most importantly: The sound quality is superb, further reinforcing Zune's top spot in sound quality among common MP3 players.
Cons: Cons: Volume output was a little lower than that of my classic 30 gig, not a deal breaker but unfortunate.
It's not a phone? (Listen up Microsoft!)
Other Thoughts: If you are a current Zune owner and you are interested in a touch screen device and/or HD ouput (via dock) get this, don't hesitate!
You won't be sorry

Pros: The Zune HD sports a beautiful OLED screen which looks nice in almost any lighting, including daylight; with a very sleek if not mildly tricky to use (at first) interface. The interface is composed of very smooth transitions and fades which are very easy on the eyes and makes the whole thing just feel ahead of it's time. Battery life is above the average for most MP3 players on the market today, with 33+ hours of music and 8+ hours of video (haven't tried it out yet). The screen is beautifully saturated and actually gives my LCD monitor a run for it's money, considering it actually reaches true black and true white and everything in between. The wifi is heavily improved and intergraded throughout the Zune interface, which truly makes the whole thing feel a lot more open to the world then previous models. We were surprised by the addition of apps at the last second. Currenlty the apps include a few touch and accelometer based games and a couple applications. We're promised more.
Cons: The wifi, just like previous Zunes, is a great addition but it's very hard on the battery. They removed the ability to add a menu background, however you can change the image on the new lock screen. They removed the lock switch and replaced it with a slightly less convinient lock screen which requires a rather elaborate finger gesture. Fortunantly you can hit the side button and get access to audio controls without unlocking it. This works no matter where you are in the Zune, which is a huge improvement over previous models. The "fully functional" web browser still lacks support for Java and Flash which seems to severely limit this "fully functional" browser in actually performing most of the 'functions' we would normally use frequently. The interface can be a tad confusing at first, because the menus don't use back buttons. Instead you tap the zoomed text from the previous menu. It seems weird at first, but actually really cleans up the interface. Slightly smaller than expected.
Other Thoughts: Aside from a few pet peeves, the Zune HD is by no means a disappointment. It proves to be a significent improvement over it's previous models. I would like to see Microsoft release new high capacity models of the Zune HD though, just so that they can push it more. Zune appeals more to the music enthusists and I think most music enthusists would prefer 80 or 120GB's over 16 or 32GB with a few extra features.

Pros: OK player, screen is easy to read. Not spectacular.
Cons: The basic unit must have Windows box to even charge, no Linux support. The Internet interface is just a link to BING, its not like you can enter any web URL. If BING doesn't have the web address you want, you're out of luck. Painfully slow and cumbersome wifi.
Other Thoughts: Got this for my daughter, but didn't realize the unit won't even charge unless its plugged into a Windows box with the Zune software installed. No Linux support. Requires dot Net to be installed. Another family member got the Cowan 32GB, that one is much more versatile and less picky about how it gets loaded with music.

Pros: Love this thing! Worked right out of the box after some configuring and syncing, amazing graphics (the starting video you see when you first turn it on really shows just how good it is). Audio quality is great, fits nice in your hand, not an iPod (huge plus), has Audiosurf (fan of it form the PC version), and the internet feature is pretty nice. I really like the scrolling text across the screen as it plays music. I get people all the time telling me they're going to get one because they hate their iPod.
Cons: While it is a pretty great media player, it does have some downsides. The internet app can't play videos, hopefully they'll add a flash player later. Can be a little slow exiting out of apps, also there's only a handful of apps out right now, though I've heard wind they will let 3rd parties make apps soon. Doesn't have the SmartDJ feature that the Zune software for PC has.
Other Thoughts: There are somethings that might be a con to some but don't bother me much. Won't play AVI format, the internet formats web pages for mobile devices, haven't gotten it to load many full page sites, also the Itouch is a bit faster but the HD loads pages in 4-6 seconds so not terribly bad, if I wanted fast and full page internet I'd carry a laptop with me. One thing to look out for is from what I've heard the Zune doesn't pick up 2 or 3 wifi signals so you need to wait before it's added in or buy a new router if your a die-hard Zune fan. Also I saw some user below complain about the head phones that come with them, in my opinion they're pretty good for something that comes free, plays bass really well etc. Overall I give it a 4/5 just because I was expecting a few more apps and the video thing is kind of a downer. I'd recommend it to anyone.
