Arctic S113BT NFC & Bluetooth 4.0 Wireless Stereo Speaker

Arctic S113BT is a portable wireless speaker system featuring a rare combination of one-touch pairing through Near Field Communication (NFC) and extended transmitting range through Bluetooth 4.0. Arctic S113BT plays CD quality stereo audio streamed wirelessly from all major NFC and Bluetooth-enabled smart phones, tablets, MP3, e-readers and computers running Mac OS/iOS, Android, and Windows operating systems.

AC-S113BT-NFC Best Features of Both NFC & Bluetooth Worlds!

NFC cuts the pairing process to just a fraction of a second and is as easy as placing your NFC-enabled mobile device on top of the Arctic S113BT for the initial pairing. The integrated advanced Near Field Communication components in both devices will get to work and pair with each other in less than a second. No more holding down the button and waiting for discovery mode to kick in. Powerful Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity streaming true CD quality stereo sound is far superior than those tiny speakers in your mobile device. What's more, Arctic S113BT works up to 30 feet away!

AAC & AptX Audio Support

Arctic S113BT supports the same high quality Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) - the digital audio format that is now a standard on YouTube, iPhone, iPod, iPad, Nintendo & PlayStation 3 and delivers better sound quality than MP3 at similar bit rates. Arctic S113BT is also compatible with aptX digital audio codec compression technology that brings you high quality audio virtually identical as wired speakers with an impressive dynamic range and crisp clarity. Not all the Bluetooth speakers support AAC & aptX.

AC-S113BT-colors Bluetooth Wireless Stereo Audio Streaming

Arctic S113BT supports Bluetooth Advanced Audio Distribution Profile for true wireless stereo audio streaming as well as Audio Video Remote Control Profile for control such as track skipping.

Crisp & Powerful Sound with Generous Playback Time

Arctic S113BT is powered by a solid-state amplifier with dual full-range drivers & two passive bass radiators delivering excellent sound and volume performances indoors and out. Built-in rechargeable battery provides up to eight long hours of playback in a single charge.

Other than supporting the advanced NFC and Bluetooth 4.0 technologies, Arctic S113BT also comes with the standard 3.5mm TRRS audio cable so devices without NFC and/or Bluetooth capability can also take advantage of the portable high quality sound delivered by Arctic S113BT.

Outdoor Durability & Portability

Arctic S113BT has a rubberized protective casing that is both moist and dust-resistant. It is built to withstand outdoor use poolside or at the beach. The soft padded nylon carrying pouch keeps Arctic S113BT safe and dry so you can enjoy it just about everywhere you take it. With a petite footprint of only 7" x 3" x 2" and weighing only 14 oz, Arctic S113BT takes up little space and is easy to carry around.

Hands-Free Speaker Box

The integrated omni-directional microphone turns Arctic S113BT into your portable speaker box in the car or in conference room when using with your smart phone for hands-free phone calls. The sound quality is far superior to the smart phone speakers so you can put your attention on more important things like driving, making a presentation, or just enjoying a conversation.

Wide-Range OS & Device Compatibility

Arctic S113BT supports NFC and/or Bluetooth-enabled mobile devices such as smart phones, tablets, e-readers, MP3 and even computers running various operating systems, such as Mac/iOS, Android and Windows.

Multiple Color Selections & Long Warranty

Arctic 113BT has six different vivid colors to choose from (Black, White, Blue, Pink, Orange and Lime) for different lifestyles. Arctic S113BT comes with a generous 2-year limited warranty.

4 out of 5 eggsThis ain't half bad for 18 bucks! (on sale)

Pros: Decent build quality

Fairly loud

Easy to use

Cons: Build quality is OK, but the second unit I bought had a manufacturing flaw.

Could use a LITTLE bit thicker box for better sound

The LED is hopelessly stupid.

Other Thoughts: Forget warranties, I had to do a teardown...

So first, how does it sound?

So for only 18 bucks I didn't expect a whole lot. But I was surprised. It isn't quite as loud as my homemade speaker, and the highs do not sound as clear, but it still goes quite loud.

The passive radiators are on the back, rather than the front, like mine is. If you put this thing in the corner of a big room, you will be pleasantly surprised. My DIY unit does best with low frequencies in free air, and this one does very well when it has a place for the bass to bounce back and resonate.

It does sound kinda plasticy, the sound you get from using a plastic speakerbox. My DIY unit was made from 7/8in particleboard and reinforced with cross braces inside. This is why the batteries and amp had to be mounted externally.

What is the build quality like? How is it constructed?

Its construction is quite average for today. The speaker grilles are clamped around a piece of plastic, and rather annoyingly, that piece of plastic is SUPERGLUED to the box. This means that although you can get into the box without breaking any stupid glue (The screws are accessible with a thin screwdriver) you will need to pry the front cover/grille off to gain access to the electronics. VERY DISAPPOINTINGLY, the second speaker I got had a messed up cloth between the front grille and plastic thingy. It looked ugly from the front so I had to remove it.

The halves of the box have a rubber seal around them, which does a very good job sealing the boxes together. The speakers and radiators are glued in using what is probably some sort of epoxy. The wires are very well sealed with some sort of silicone or something. The box halves are decently thick. The outer rubber can be removed by just pulling it off. It is attached with double-sided adhesive.

Features? Battery life?

First, you can pair it using NFC. Just place your NFC capable phone or tablet on top and it pairs it. RIP Apple users, lol.

The page claims an 8 hour battery life. I have not tested this, but the battery looks capable of it.

It has a red and blue LED indicator that is really quite derpy. The front panel has a hole for it to shine through the mesh, but the springy arms on the buttons present a much larger hole, and it just looks dumb.

It can be charged using micro USB, and it can play at the same time. It also has a 3.5mm input for devices without bluetooth. Both USB and 3.5mm audio cables are included, as well as a carrying case. The case is quite nice.

On the front panel are three buttons, volume up/down or long press to skip tracks, and a pause/call button. It has a microphone so you could potentially make calls with it.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome Sound

Pros: Loud sound - good base - very high treble - heavy duty and well protected by the rubberized cover, also comes with a nice pouch for holding speaker instructions and cables. Bluetooth with several of my devices no problem. Very loud and good sound. Cat promptly knocked this on ground and chewed on it - but no damage at all !

Cons: the white one was the only one at 20 bucks the other colors are 40 bucks. either way not that much of a con because i don't care what color it is. NFC didnt work with an older smart phone BUT it was likely the phone.

Other Thoughts: I think this thing is a great deal at any price from 40 and down - it is very good quality and sound
I had issue with NFC Pairing but just used the Bluetooth instead - very easy to use

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Performance & Small Size

Pros: Paired easily, aptX Support, BT 4.0, seems like decent manufacturing quality, attention to detail befits a much higher product that I paid in Mid 2015 (around a Jackson), rubber outer casing should be drop tolerant, little touches like an included bag. Sound quality is excellent, on par with my friend's expensive Jawbone Jambox Mini which was over $100 a couple of years ago to my knowledge.

Cons: Not enough time to comment on longterm durability or battery life. Decent volume and reasonable bass for a tiny device but don't expect to shatter your eardrums. Not waterproof but for the price, who cares?

Other Thoughts: I'm an audio nut from way back. My expectations for Jackson's worth of product were not all that high even with the BT 4.0 & aptX support but I was duly impressed with this little box. It's so very close in performance, though not general aesthetics, to my friend's unit that cost more than 5X what I paid that I'm really thrilled if it lasts for a year or more while battery life continues to be more than a couple of hours. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for an inexpensive BT box. For reference, I also just bought my 75 year old father a box (Ematic) for a few dollars cheaper at the local west coast electronics chain and this just blows it's doors off for sound quality and volume while being physically smaller. I haven't used an SPL meter but by ear it sounds like it's normative output down to around 150Hz or so and it actually still makes some output at around 100Hz which is really good for a box the size of a 12oz. soda bottle. Really, for anything less than $40, this is a steal.

4 out of 5 eggsI Got Most Of What I Was Hoping For

Pros: It's a nice size: Small enough to carry outside and put on a table and big enough to not accidentally get thrown out. The rubberized exterior has a nice feel, you don't feel like you are going to drop it or that it would slip when you put it down. I think that exterior also helps give it a pretty sturdy feel. The sound quality is very good, it's not going to shake the walls but it's loud enough that you won't be able to use it in a cubicle without disturbing your neighbors. I saw complaints about a tinny quality to the sound, I have not had that experience. It has a good full sound to it. Bluetooth pairing is easy. I was looking for something that sounds at least marginally better than my smartphone and this sounds MUCH BETTER than I was hoping for!

Cons: I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 phone with NFC, but I couldn't get the NFC to get the Bluetooth to pair, I had to go through regular Bluetooth pairing (which was easy). The 'manual' is just a folded piece of paper with scant information that could be better presented. Turning the volume all the way up on my phone and on the speakers can distort the audio, but that's not really bad for me because I don't listen to it that loudly.

Other Thoughts: The failure of the NFC pairing is the only reason I took one egg away, otherwise it is great for the price. Even though the NFC wouldn't initiate the Bluetooth pairing for me, the pairing process was still very easy.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect!

Pros: Top quality construction. Excellent battery life. Plenty of volume, decent bass for a speaker this tiny. Pairing is a no brainier. I just love this gadget!

Cons: None that I can see.

Other Thoughts: Anybody that writes a negative review about volume ... Make sure the volume on your devise is turned all the way up. Use the speaker volume +/- tabs to lower the volume, if necessary. Tinny sounding? No way! Go get your hearing checked!

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Buy

Pros: It's Portable without outlet

Cons: It sounds like a tin can and has no volume. The little one i bought from another store for 29.99 sounds much better.

Other Thoughts: Do yourself a favor and don't by it.

4 out of 5 eggsSmall & Good

Pros: Small & cute. Sound is amazing for a little speaker. Bluetooth 4 works really well. Long battery life. I use this for conference calls too because I work from home. The sound is much better than using the speaker from your iPhone.

Cons: The bass is a bit thin but that is expected with such as small speaker. But it plays loud and clear. Just to be real, it won't shake walls.

Other Thoughts: My teenage daughter saw this on my desk and is constantly borrowing it, Oh well, time to get a second one.
