4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: For me the main reason for buying was the mp3 cd feature. This is not common amoung cd players. This lets you play mp3 data cd's. You can easily fit 12 plus hours of content on a cd. I like it for talk radio shows. Love this player.

Cons: The clock and alarm do not show when you are listening to radio or cd. HD radio would be nice if there were more hd stations in my area. There are only 3.

Other Thoughts: I would buy again for the mp3 cd. Glad mine works fine because the warrenty is very poor. Happy for $65.

1 out of 5 eggsUseful for one thing only

Pros: Cheap HD Radio tuner.

Cons: Unless you're an avid fan of talk radio and for some reason want to listen to it in HD, there's no point in getting this item. The dock swallows your iPod to the point of unusability, the sound quality is very poor for music, the clock has no backup battery, the FM antenna has a special connector, and the case is a fingerprint magnet.

Other Thoughts: The CD player was broken on the one I received. I'd return it, but for some reason, the day I bought it, it was on limited non-refundable return policy, and it's hardly worth bothering getting the replacement. I now have a shiny black plastic football.

Pros: None

Cons: Expensive

Other Thoughts: Whats the point of using $60 for this?

Just plug in your ipod into a speaker.

4 out of 5 eggsHD radio that won't break the bank

Pros: Decent HD radio tuner, one of the few to be found for less than a Franklin. (and they wonder why HD radio isn't taking off...) HD scan mode ignores non-HD broadcasts. Presets fairly easy to set, useful because scanning for HD programs can be slow. Alpha numeric display (sort of, bar segment LED) shows HD station ID, song artist and title IF broadcast by stations.
Basic clock-radio functions, activating sleep mode dims display.
Annoying default pilot light mode (slow flash) can be changed.
Can play mp3 files on CD, flash drive or digital player. (I don't own an ipod, so can't comment on this feature.)

Cons: Modest sound quality, limited volume, you won't want to play it loud. Ugly and fiddly dipole / random wire antenna for FM, ugly and fiddly loop for AM.
Even non-HD stations are delayed a fraction of a second, so if you have another radio in a nearby room on the same station you can get a major reverb effect when you are in between them. Enhancement or annoyance, your call.
No battery backup for time and alarm settings, don't rely on it for your alarm clock. Station presets are saved, at least on brief outages. Pilot light mode returns to default.
Playing mp3 files, no text info is displayed, files / songs are just assigned a number 001-999. No playlist functions, just RANDOM, REPEAT, and REPEAT ALL.

Other Thoughts: It's a tabletop radio for background music. You can plug in a set of quality speakers or use it as a HD radio tuner on your stereo system if you want serious volume or audio quality. You can also connect a VHF TV antenna, if you can find or rig up an adapter, to reduce the dropouts.
I live in a hilly urban area (Pittsburgh), relatively few stations in the area broadcast HD. Like DTV, HD digital broadcasts can be clean and static free, but also can be subject to dropouts. Some stations broadcast title / artist info, others not, possibly a dropout issue.
On the plus side, the hybrid nature of HD will mask dropouts on the primary broadcast. A wider array of programming is available on secondary channels, with fewer interruptions.
If you buy it and don't like it, give it to your (grand)dad, and he'll tell you how FM used to be, before Clear Channel bought up everything.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Lots of features. Nice clean look.

Cons: Poor sound quality. Low volume level.

Other Thoughts: I have been looking for an iPod dock to use in my lab for quite a while, and when I saw this $250 for $69 I thought it was too good to be true. Tuns out it was.

This item has a lot of nice features, and a neat look. Using the iPod through the remote was easy and intuitive. However the sound quality is very poor. There is no bass and it is a very low volume maximum; so low that I wasn't able to hear it across the lab.

It would be OK vor small rooms and if you don't really care about the sound quality.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: Nice clean polished look. The controls are great with lots of docking options. It even includes a cleaning rag. The HD radio is fantastic... radio has never sounded so good.

Cons: The dock for the ipod is a little deep for my taste. It doesn't allow you touch the ipod wheel very well which makes navigating a little annoying if you want to change artists.

4 out of 5 eggsworks/looks great, quirky at best on features

Pros: radio tunes well, easy to add presets if you read the manual, sound through headphones or use as input to larger system, eq acceptable but not flexible, intro to HD radio, remote works but should not be needed for many people as they will sit right by the unit in use anyway... headphone jack!!! we still need them and most units like this don't provide them anymore!!! Style!!!

Cons: must use remote for many features, HD and CD quirky at best!!! has no battery backup of clock, so the alarm is worse that useless unless you have it plugged into a battery UPS... HD won't tune in at my work, it did OK at home... digital needs a BETTER signal than FM how ludicrous is that??? Again, HD is a feature that you really need the Remote to navigate and HD is quirky to boot. CD eject is stopped if you hold down on the Play/Pause button for several seconds (LOCK ON is displayed)... (((LOCK OFF ==> press Play/Pause until LOCK OFF is displayed))).... Reported problem of only being able to select pre-sets on radio has not been seen yet on my unit... however, if you press enter on the remote for awhile, then hit it again, you wipe ALL presets!!! No bass, except through the headphone output.

Other Thoughts: works, plays, rocks, gets a little bit warm to touch, comes with a cloth to wipe off the shiny parts and grill if you do touch them, smudge them or they get dusty...

4 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: I bought this for the HD radio and the Ipod dock.

It plays just about anything. The sound quality is more than adequate for me. I use it with my Ipod touch and my husband's Iphone 3g. To play and charge at the same time is great.

It has a unique design and look to it although the ambient light is not necessary.

I bought it as the "shell shocker" of the day. I couldn't find either an HD radio or an ipod dock with speakers for the price I paid. A great deal for a product that has both.

Cons: The display doesn't work as I would expect. For instance, when playing music from the ipod, it displays the word IPOD. Not the song/artist, not even the clock.

The power cord is clunky when placing this on a smaller nightstand. Just a regular cord would be nicer.

The alarm clock feature needs improvement. I cannot find the tiny snooze button when coming out of a deep sleep. Who doesn't like to hit the snooze button at least once in the morning? I need the giant snooze button right in the middle.

A strange con I know: This thing needs dusted every day. At least they provided a cloth. The finish on this thing is a dust magnet.

Other Thoughts: When I first got the unit, it was delivered to my office downtown. I had to try it right away. The HD radio was awesome. It picked up every station in town and it sounded good. Unfortunately, I live about 30 miles from downtown and I rarely pick up any HD signals. It is a disappointing problem with my location, not with the unit.

The ipod dock always feels like I am going to break it. I have not broken it, but it always feels like it is going to be the last time I get to use it. So far so good.
