The Shuttle XPC Barebone SG31G2 Silver packs a lot of power into a small package. Using the classic G2 chassis design, it is ready to host Socket 775 Intel CPU's – even those with 45nm architecture - including single, double and quad-core processors using Core 2 technology. Pentium 4, Pentium D and Celeron D processors can also be used.

Up to 4GB of DDR2 SDRAM can be installed and the system supports FSB speeds of 800, 1066 and 1333 Mhz, with more performance available through Dynamic Overclock, which allows you to adjust the voltage and frequency of the CPU and the RAM. Active Airflow design and Silent X cooling and noise reduction technology combine with the Shuttle Integrated Cooling Engine and its heatpipes to keep the system operating efficiently at low noise and temperature levels.

An Intel Graphics Media Accelerator with a powerful 400Mhz core offers DirectX 9 support and 3D rendering along with the ability to display on dual monitors accompanied by 7.1 channels of HD audio. Integrated Gigabit LAN and FireWire controllers let you bring in data from network connections and two 3.5" along with a single 5.25" drive handle internal data storage. PCI and PCI-Express slots top things off and everything is powered by a 250 Watt mini power supply with PFC to reduce energy costs.

5 out of 5 eggsLove this

Pros: This is my second shuttle the first was a slightly lower model I believe it was a sd31 or something like that. Both I put together my self and with no prior experience. I love that its small its out of the way and very easy to work on.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: The first shuttle died I believe because I had it over clocked for some time and it burned something up. It was either the power supply or the motherboard. Both were rather expensive to try so I bought this model. replaced all my original parts out of the first shuttle, except ofcourse the mb and ps. Works great. I left the clock speed alone with this one. I did install a vid card and also have a wireless pci card coming with in a day. Have xp home but installing 7 64bit this weekend. We'll see how it goes.

4 out of 5 eggsNice little system

Pros: 45nm CPU support.
Clean Shuttle layout, as always.
Silver color scheme

Cons: Anemic PSU

Other Thoughts: Pentium Dual Core E5200 @ 2.5Ghz
2GB PNY OPTIMA DDR2800
250GB WD SATA HDD
XFX Radeon 4650
WinXP Home SP3

Makes a great system for my son. Replaced the 250watt PSU with a 300watt from Shuttle. Probably didn't really need to, but I had one lying around, so why not?
Not intended to be a "gaming" rig, but performance on less demanding names quite satisfactory.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat box, BUT...

Pros: Compact system, yet everything is fairly easy to install.
Plenty of ports.
Great expandability, for such a small system.
Dead quiet once booted.

Cons: Shipping was UNACCEPTABLE. the New Jersey shipping department stuck the shipping label on the product box, and off it went. no invoice, no protection, not even a sticker to seal the box shut! For all I know, the UPS guy may have taken bits(though they SEEM to all be there) before I got it(rest of the order from California was nice and professionally packaged).

If you have a low-profile PCI-E video card, the case screw may interfere with proper VGA cable attachment.

Only 3 drive slots(though there's not really room for a 4th).

Case cover looks good brushed, but takes fingerprints easily.

Other Thoughts: The cover seems (and IS) flimsy while off the case, but once attached, and screws are in, becomes a nice rigid shell.

5 out of 5 eggsLove It! Will buy a Shuttle Again

Pros: Small, more power then you think from the PS, keeps cool. Don't Underestimate the power supply for your video card, I have a EVGA 9800GT in no problem.

Cons: Not easy to change parts, more so ram, but how often do you really do that, and with this unit, it's not like the MB will be changed out, so it's a small con

Other Thoughts: Love the unit, Needed the desk space, as my main work computers take the space. This is used for games, I fit a EVGA 9800GT in no problem, and the PS supports it no problem.

1 out of 5 eggsBad Motherboard

Pros: Easy to install; the ICE cooler is easy and works well. Simple to put together.

Cons: It kept giving a DMI Pool error on boot. Shuttle Tech Support was decent, but I had to eliminate all the variables. I'm fortunate that I had spare memory, spare DVD, spare HD, and spare cables because I was told ANY of them could cause the problem. Well, after returning it I was told that the motherboard was replaced. I have a BIOSTAR that's been a gem and another Shuttle that's been a gem, so I guess I just got a bad one.

Other Thoughts: I'd think twice about buying another one. Also, I'm not pleased that I'm on the hook for return shipping for a defective unit.

2 out of 5 eggsIt's not quiet

Pros: Easy to install components, looks good.

Cons: The power supply is loud. This is not a quiet unit. I'm sure it took a lot of effort to develop the CPU cooler. That works fine and it is very quiet, but the power supply is very loud. The blue LED on the front panel is way too bright.

Other Thoughts: If you're looking for a quiet barebones, this isn't it.

2 out of 5 eggsThe good and the bad

Pros: Looks

Cons: The power supply and motherboard are strictly Shuttle, so if you need one of them you will have to get it somewhere else. Where? I have no idea. the Shuttle site has no parts that I can find. I am pretty sure I clicked every link on their site.
Well the mobo has some problem with graphics both pcie and onboard.
One look at the mobo connections should convince you that no other brand is going to accept them funny looking connectors on the front panel much less fit the IO hole in the back. And even if you managed a jury rig, You would loose the best thing in the whole dam box "the ice cooler"

Other Thoughts: This is not a good project for do it your self. So why is it a bare bonz?
I would not mind paying a lil hi price for Shuttle mobo if they even offered one except that I'm sure the Shuttle power supply would go next.
I recommend bare bonz that will accept common stock hardware.

5 out of 5 eggsMy Shuttle

Pros: ICE Cooling system is nice, quiet, and easy to install (even with large hands).

Cons: Shipped in retail box, not sure if that caused some of the scratches on the side. Also, it is hard (impossible?) to find a matching DVD drive.

Other Thoughts: Installed:
Core 2 Duo E8400 (45nm), recognized it right away
G.Skill 4GB 800mhz RAM (larger RAM with heat spreaders)
Nvidia 8600GT Video card
Windows Vista Ultimate
Everything was plug in play, took ~25 minutes to setup (my first shuttle barbone), overall very impressed

1 out of 5 eggsMine's Bent up also

Pros: Arrived quickly...but bent

Cons: Like another recent reviewer. Mine was recieved bent up also. Cover is bowed out and doesn't align with front bezel. The 4 feet of the main case don't sit level on my glass top table...rocks back and forth. Arrived in OEM box even though I requested double boxing. Was told that Customer Service can't communicate with the warehouse. Box did not show any signs of damage. I can only assume this is what Shuttle let out their door. Very disappointing.
