3 out of 5 eggsok system case

Pros: i had none of the problems others have had i installed an quad core 2 6600 chipset and 1333 memory not on the qva list and it booted right up and installed windows 7 64 bit

Cons: my only complaint is the opening for the dvd drive had to rig it up with card board to make it trigger the switch right very poor design if you ask me had to try 3 different drives

5 out of 5 eggsNice Box Overall

Pros: Small, quiet, attractive-looking box. The Genie Heat pipe cooler is a plus as it makes the machine quiet enough that the only noise I hear is from HD chatter. Includes 1-SATA and 1-PATA cable pre-installed and well placed for use during drive installation. Has two slots, including a PCI-X 16X slot for video card upgrades.

Cons: The 250W Power Supply limits video card options. I noted the previous comments about PSU life - we'll see how it goes. With only two slots, memory support is limited to 8GB RAM. The Intel on-board Graphics processor works fine but won't break any speed records. Also, the CD/DVD button on the front of the case is a bit flimsy and adjusting the drive fit so the button works correctly is a bit fiddly. Lastly, I would have liked two SATA cables pre-installed, as I used a SATA DVD-RW.

Other Thoughts: Recently purchased this box from NewEgg - essentially it is the SG41J1 Plus (the DDR3 version of the SG41J1) with the addition of the Heat Pipe cooler. Noting the previous comments about compatibility, I used memory from Shuttle's compatibility list - two sticks of Kingston KVR1333D3N9/4G (also purchased here at NewEgg, Item #N82E16820139046). I used a 65W Quad-Core Yorkfield Processor (Q9550S, 1333FSB). After installing all the hardware, including a HD and a SATA DVD-ROM and the box booted right up and installed Windows 7 with no problem.

1 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: NONE

Cons: Well instead of returning the ram, I went to Shuttles website and their support list and bought the EXACT ram listed on their site. Same thing no post. I get nothing on the screen at all. I tried different monitors, ram and 2 of these time wasting things. Total garabge. I will return for a refund

Other Thoughts: JUNK

Pros: None so far, it will not post (my second one)

Cons: I am on my second one right now, returning the ram, but after reading all these posts, maybe I got 2 bad ones. WHAT A PAIN.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: None so far...

Cons: This is the 2nd box I am returning. 1st one would not post. Worked with Shuttle customer support, but couldn't get it to work. Returned and got another same thing. I am now in the process of returning the 2nd one since I can't get a refund from newegg. Hopefully, the 3rd time it will work.

Other Thoughts: The quality control on these boxes are horrible. I have built 2 other Shuttle machines over the years and have never had any issues. My current XPC (SG31G2) has been running problem free for 3 years.

The wife needed a new PC so I thought I would build a Shuttle for her. After 2 failed attempts I ended up buying her a Gateway SX2850. It's a nice SFF case w/ Win7 64, a Core i3 550, 4GB RAM and 640 GB HD for $499. From a cost and hassle perspective this blows the Shuttle box away.

Hopefully, this next box will work. Since I'll have an extra computer I may try and make a hackentosh with it.

Pros: Still waiting

Cons: I thought like I'm sure atleast some of you ... that the people complaining about it not posting just don't know what they are doing... I went to the shuttle site and got recommended parts put it together (just like I have many shuttles before it) and ...... nothing

5 out of 5 eggsThe First Thing You Want To DO

Pros: Many feature for a mini pc. With the exception of SLI, you have everyting a regular sized PC has. Shuttle makes a great effort in keeping up with the newest features and motherboard.

Cons: The first thing you want to do when you buy a Shuttle PC is to go to the shuttle website and buy the 500WATT power supply. Everyone I know tries to cram a Nvidia Geforce 480 with a 275watt (Default) power supply. Ever Shuttle I have ever bought has blown the power supply. My other pet peeve is the case is dated. Other cubes came with handles, and removeable clear acrylic sides.

Other Thoughts: I still buy them because there is a market for them.

1 out of 5 eggsFirst Bad Shuttle

Pros: This is one of the most beautiful Shuttle boxes you will ever lay your eyes on. The interior design is also neat and well planned and implemented.

Cons: I was smugly skeptical of all of the whining that customers expressed regarding the reluctance of the SG41J1 to fire up, but alas, the naysayers appear to be mostly justified. My sparkling little machine, painstakingly assembled across a half day, would not even light an LED or spin an exhaust fan blade. The puppy was dead as a doornail. So much did I want this machine to work that I went out and bought yet a second CPU (said to be most compatible) and a different brand of memory. Nothing worked. I have requested an RMA number, and I hope the second specimen will turn on. If I could just get it to start and route to the BIOS-settings module, I could likely get it to perform as expected.

Other Thoughts: This is the fourth Shuttle box I have built and the only Shuttle product that has been problematic. Someone (very likely a team of technicians) dropped the ball badly in this project and allowed quality testing and quality control go to the wind.

If the RMA process results in a better experience, I will make a point of revising my evaluation of the product in this venue.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Previous owner of a few Shuttles.

Cons: DOA

I purchased two of these boxes, both are DOA, video does not leave standby. Tried to use a video card in PCI-e slot along with a few other attempts, no dice.

RMAing cases, will try again.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price.

Pros: Works perfectly if you order the right components.

These are not cons, just limited to characters...
Here's a thought before you buy this box.

It's ram sensitive unless you've got the latest BIOS update, I ordered two of these on 11/20ish/10 and they didn't have it.

These are the ram modules from shuttles website that are fully supported.

Seagate Barracuda
