1 out of 5 eggsDead after a year

4 out of 5 eggsSuh-weet Wee x86_32/64 Machine

Pros: Can Take 8 GB RAM - 2 x Crucial DDR3 1066 4GB
Low Power (40 watts)
Runs 64-bit Windows (7,8) and 64-bit Linux (CentOS)
Uses Laptop RAM and Laptop SATA Hard Drive
Good Enough

Cons: No CD/DVD/BD-ROM drive bay (use external USB)
Video Performance is anemic (Generic Drivers)
FPU Performance is probably anemic
CPU Does not have Intel Virtualization features

Other Thoughts: As long as you are not doing high-end graphics, complex mathematical computations, or virtualization, this machine is more than adequate. I'm using it to play around with Linux (CentOS) and Windows x86_32/64 software. I got it as an Open Box ($130). I'm seriously considering buying another (as Open Box) since I know, first hand, that it can take 8 GB RAM. It's a nice little x86_32/64 machine.

1 out of 5 eggsWhat a disappointment ... Buy something ELSE!

Pros: Great form factor, fast dual core Atom.

Cons: Zero quality control ... this is the third unit in a month. First one was DOA. Second one lost the LAN port after 1 week and the third one lost it's LAN port after 3 days! The first one cost me $15 in return shipping ... the second one Newegg covered ... Tomorrow I'll find out if they will cover the third return.

Finding drivers for Linux is a pain ... but Mint version 10 works. Debian/Ubuntu both have driver issues and you will end up compiling from JME driver at Shuttle's website if you can locate the driver's dependencies.

The cost of a month of working with these pieces of junk can not be recovered. We needed this as a server that runs 24x7 ... but we can't get past a week.

Other Thoughts: Shuttle has lost any and all future sales from us. Zero quality means zero business.

Newegg is good, but their return policies take too long. When a device is defective, the vendor should be forced to supply an overnight replacement and the return label. It's their fault, not the customer's or Newegg's.

5 out of 5 eggsA fine wee computer.

Pros: Tons of ports, runs silent, bios seems good to me, easy to open, nice design, runs Ubuntu well, quality construction, and pretty nifty.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I got this as an Ubuntu LAMP server to augment my windows machine, and am glad I chose it. I have used old/cheap laptops for this in the past, but I prefer this now. Plus, its like an adorable, baby server. Aww! The processor is perfectly adequate for PHP development.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little machines

Pros: Bought a couple of these at work to use as kiosks/signage. Installed Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit on them via the SD port. Make sure you buy SODIMMs (eg. "laptop memory")!! I also used a 30GB SSD, and they run great! See notes below on how to get Ubuntu working...

Cons: Initially I had issues installing Ubuntu Linux on this thing...

First, in order to boot from SD card, you need to enable it in the BIOS/UEFI menus. Also, you need to append "LIVEMEDIA=/dev/mmcblk0p1" to the kernel parameters (in ISOLINUX when you normally get the "boot:" prompt) so that it will use the SD card as the installation media.

Once the installation is complete, you need to remove the PAE kernel, and install a non-PAE kernel so that the Cedar Trail graphics drivers will work properly (Ubuntu will say that drivers are available... DO NOT INSTALL THEM until you remove the PAE kernel and install the non-PAE kernel or you will boot with corrupted graphics!). Search Google for "ubuntu 12.04 cedar view graphics driver" ... I followed the guide from the second post on the askubuntu dot com forum, and everything worked happily!

Other Thoughts: Great little machines... Was thinking about buying a couple for myself to use as XBMC clients (they DO support audio over HDMI, even in Linux!), but I think I will wait to see if Intel releases new Cedar View graphics drivers first. Good/fast little machines, nonetheless! Power-on to fully booted in about 10-15 seconds!

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Compact-used ssd, wind 7, external usb cd, and shuttle memory list. Loads extremely fast. Op system-4 business programs-updates-security. Assembly to finish-3 hrs with no problems.

Cons: To good to be true. Day 2 & 3 found bios clock adding 1 yr per day. Called Shuttle tech support- walked me thru bios flash-froze-no boot. 3 days past egg return- RMA to shuttle. Never had a problem in all these years buying from the Egg. Will advise how shuttle handles this for future customers.

5 out of 5 eggsNo x64 Support

Pros: Update to my first review. It appears that Intel's Cedar Trail chips with the GMA 35xx graphics are actually PowerVR chips and do not have Windows 7 x64 support. So all the extra memory I have is useless. Should have figured that out myself before I bought the platform never would have occurred to me to check considering all other Intel Atoms have x64 support. This is Intel's and my fault not Shuttle's. Go for their X35v 3 which has an ATI Radeon 7xxx series GPU for x64 and better 1080P support if you need it.

Cons: No x64 support

Other Thoughts: Going to exchange 8gb for 4gb and only use 3GB in x86 Windows.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little system

Pros: Small, fanless, quiet, CEDAR Trail, Hyper-Threaded, actually can take at least 8GB (G.Skill RAM 1333Mhz was used and it took it). Slap an SSD in here and it is perfectly silent. Using it as a Powerpoint slideshow computer for my Rita's Water Ice store. Has DVI, VGA, and HDMI out.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: So many useful purposes. Get a DC power supply it might be able to be used in cars, don't know for sure though.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat mini system

Pros: Small size, ease of use. NO heat, NO noise. Performs great.

Cons: None at this time.

Other Thoughts: Purchased 2 to use as computers for digital signage. Configured with a 60 gig SSD, 4 gig DDR3 and Win7 Pro. Did not expect the performance this machine delivered. Runs Office 2010 with no issues, even runs Sage MAS 500 with no issues. Due to this we will be buying more to use as basic workstations in the plant. The units even have built in wireless with very good range considering they have no antenna.
