5 out of 5 eggsRocks

Pros: It just works well. SSD, RAM WiFi and you're up. Running Win7 in an office. Fast quiet and it fits on the back of the monitor. Lookout Apple, this thing crushes your mini.

Cons: No power cord, but knew that going in. USB2 instead of 3. Should allow for 2.5" HDs, but it only allows SSD mSATA - oh well.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate to 1st Review

Pros: Small foot print, real fast with Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series SSD (MKNSSDAT120GB-DX), 16GB Patriot Memory for Ultrabooks 1.35V (PS001037-PSD38G1600L2S), Intel Centrino Advanced N-6235 Wireless Adapter with Bluetooth, Apple Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter.
*** INTEL fixed the audio drivers and the now work perfect. I found the new video/audio drivers with intel auto update, as they aren't on the NUC website yet. http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: No crashes, stable as a rock. I stream HDTV from a SiliconDust HDHomeRun PRIME network tuner to it and use it as a DVR as well, record to an external USB hard drive; and use it to play blurays.

5 out of 5 eggsJust what i was looking for

Pros: I've was looking for a small computer with enough power for running windows 7, office, some high res apps and use as media center. This computer has done everything it said it would. Components installed easily, installed win7 from usb drive, and then installed drivers from Intel site and it has now replaced my full tower desktop. also comes with mounting plate.
Start up is fast, very quiet

Cons: you need to know how to build a computer. how to get windows on usb or use external dvd. you will have to download and install chipset drivers from Intel site before wireless will work which will require a 2nd computer to download files because this model does not have lan.

Other Thoughts: so, if you know how to do that or someone else that does; I think it great and really does fits in my palm. I bought the bundle with the 256 mSATA and 16GB 16000 ram and also got the Intel wireless/ Bluetooth card

I don't play games on it so I can't tell you how it handles there.

4 out of 5 eggsReplacement Unit Update

Pros: Small Form factor
Integrated intel 4000 graphics
Fast - PcMark 7 = 3905
Quiet
Thunderbolt

Cons: Ok received second unit. Again BSOD from get-go, codes: 0X0000007E, 0X0000003A, 0X0000003B…..After exhausting software options including bios and video driver re-installs, I tried swapping memory. Finally after 5 different SO-DIMM pairs I found a 4GB (2X2GB) set that seemed stable (G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 1600 (PC3 12800) F3-12800CL9D-4GBSQ). Apparently, like the mac mini, this box is very very picky about RAM especially above 4GB where the MB has to employ address multiplexing. I then installed Crucial 1.35V sticks (Crucial 8GB (2x4GB 1333(PC3 10600)CT2Kit5126BF1339), went into the Bios, set memory to manual and upped the voltage from the default 1.35 to 1.5 V leaving the CAS latencies at their spid settings. So far system seems stable even under stress tests. So if you buy this unit, be careful about the memory you use. Either buy 1.35V SO-DIMMS and increase the voltage which the bios lets override or buy CAS 7 memory and increase the latency if necessary to 9 in order to achieve system stability.

Other Thoughts: The current Bios version 36 lets you override the memory setting, but not the BLCK or processor multiplier so don't expect to be able to overclock unless you have the Intel engineering Bios.

1 out of 5 eggsDissapointed so far!

Pros: Small form factor and promise of core power

Cons: The unit I received was unstable from the get-go with frequent lockups and BSODs. These are not random, but occur without fail under load. Several reviews on the web found issues with pre-production hardware and apparently these may not have been fixed. I tried running with the cover off and fan on the coolest setting and it did not help. I tried flashing to Bios version 36 and installed the latest windows 7 drivers from intel's support page and the problem still persisted. I tried swapping out the memory with new and it did not help. I also removed the 6205 intel wireless card and it still blue screened. You can readily see this with stress tests and benchmarks like futuremark, but can also just point your browser to WebGL Aquarium and it will induce a lockup or crash within 5 to 10 minutes.

In addition, wireless bandwidth bottlenecks appear to exist as noted in reviews of pre-production units. I tried both intel 6205 and 1030 cards and both had issues where transfers stopped mid-stream on N routers known to work. This often locked the application which had to be killed with task mgr. Sometimes the whole machine would lock. Using apple's thunderbolt to ethernet adapter, internet connectivity appeared more reliable, but the system instability did not go away.

Overall impression based on this single unit is that the hardware is an expensive beta.

Other Thoughts: I would have preferred a refund, but newegg,s policy for the unit is replacement only. I completed rma today. I guess we will see if this is an isolated anomaly or more extensive. Will update after i receive the second unit.

4 out of 5 eggsIntel needs to fix the Display Audio Drivers

Pros: Small foot print, real fast with Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series SSD (MKNSSDAT120GB-DX), 16GB Patriot Memory for Ultrabooks 1.35V (PS001037-PSD38G1600L2S), Intel Centrino Advanced N-6235 Wireless Adapter with Bluetooth, Apple Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter. Drivers for the Gb Ethernet Adapter can be found on Broadcom's site, look for the NetXtreme I Desktop/Mobile download.

Cons: Windows Media Center crashes when "Exclusive Mode" is enabled in the Intel Display Audio Driver, which needs to be enabled to get DTS-HD & Dolby TrueHD thru the HDMI port. I enable Exclusive Mode to get HD sound in PowerDVD and disable it in WMC. I wish

Other Thoughts: The WMC crashing manifest itself in one of two ways. First, when you try to play back recorded TV, you can get an error message that says you don't have correct files necessary to play the file. Second, you can get audio problems when resuming normal playback after fast forwarding. Both problems are caused by the same issue. Error which usually is displayed “Video Error Files needed to display video are not installed or are not working correctly. Restart Windows Media Center or restart the computer”
