5 out of 5 eggsGreat for Media Center

Pros: Small, quiet, cute.

Cons: A little pricey for not having built in ram and SSD.

Other Thoughts: I bought this a little over a year ago when the NUC's were fairly new. I paid a little over 300. Tack on another 100 for 256 Gb Samsung mSATA and 100 for 8 Gig Ripjaws SO-DIMM and you've got yourself a pricey little media center. I run Kodibuntu for the OS and can stream full 1080p from my NAS media server, with no stutter whatsoever. Granted I am not using WiFi, but I've heard of similar performance from people who do. At one time, the fan would cycle fast/slow/fast/slow... while in idle. Did some googling and found a fix for it in the bios settings. If you want a reliable media center, especially if you plan on installing open source OS, I would highly recommend this box.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Computer!

Pros: HTPC Powerhouse
Great for low end games
Silent
4 USB 3's

Cons: Gets hot (I keep the window open a certain amount to even out the heat in my room)
Mini HDMI (Con for me)

Other Thoughts: Running windows 7 and Ubuntu 15.10 and its the best nuc I have used. I had a problem with the boot loader when i first got it but i contacted Intel and worked through it.

3 out of 5 eggsNUCs to NUCs

Pros: This particular one is a good build compared to other NUCs and I have several.

Cons: Expensive and incompatible. The NUC platform is a nice idea but is both to far ahead of it's time and too far behind. Linux drivers are a real pain. Expandability is all about what intel "envisions" for you rather than what you really need. They are not great value. In may ways it's an iMac several years too late and several hundred dollars over budget.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome Desktop

Pros: Possibly the most awesome purpose built desktop environment I've seen. I'm very big into smaller is better and this guy is actually velcro'ed to the back of my monitor. For desktop users, this is entirely what they would need for day to day productivity or personal use. The lack of unneeded ports and therefore the overall efficiency of design strikes the perfect balance for most uses.

Cons: I would naturally want to deploy these as desktops within a larger environment, but the barebones nature of it being a kit would make my assembly time more difficult than I would like.

Other Thoughts: This would be a great opportunity for an integrator to build and configure these machines so users could self-install.

5 out of 5 eggsIntel NUC i5

Pros: With a SSD It boots FAST
Good for light games on OK settings (Minecraft, Sims 3, ect)
Small
USB 3.0 Ports
Quiet
2 Display outs (Mini Display-Port and Mini HDMI)

Cons: Have had some Windows boot issues (would show just the Intel NUC splash screen and wouldn't continue) But just unplug the power and reboot.
Can get a little warm
The headphone jack is in the front (it bugs me a little)

Other Thoughts: I put a Crucal 128GB MSATA SSD and 8GB of Crucal RAM in it for games. Also I can record Minecraft at 30FPS using FRAPS if that is a thing that you need to do.

5 out of 5 eggsExactly as described, Excellent

Pros: Awesome features in a really small package.

Easy to assemble.

Sips power

Very quiet

Cons: Intel doesn't send somebody to your home to hold your hand so that you don't buy something without doing the slightest bit of research and write a 1 egg review based on your inability to read.

Other Thoughts: Built mine with:
G.SKILL Ripjaws 16GB (2 x 8GB) part #: F3-1600C9D-16GRSL

SAMSUNG 840 EVO 1TB mSATA SSD part #: MZ-MTE1T0BW

Intel 802.11AC + Bluetooth Wi-Fi card part #: 7260HMW

Windows 7 Pro 64

and could not be happier!
I've only heard the fan on days where it was 77 F or higher inside.

1 out of 5 eggsI got jipped!

Pros: on board standard SATA connection

Cons: I can't use an SSD inside the chassis even though INTEL has supplied the internal headers for one on the motherboard. This is because the case isn't big enough to support one.

Come to find out, INTEL later released a bigger chassis with the SAME MOTHERBOARD.

All I can say is, everyone who bought this should get the new, UPDATED CHASSIS for FREE.

Other Thoughts: I will change my rating when INTEL ships US the newer Blank Chassis. Until then, it gets one star. Everyone else should follow suit.
