5 out of 5 eggsWorks great!

This review is from: Intel NUC6i3SYK Kit with 6th Generation Intel Core i3 Processor

Pros: Small, fast, and quiet. Comes with a full-size HDMI port.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Don't use the free bundled memory--it doesn't work. With good memory, I
ran benchmarks on Linux overnight without any problems. It runs the latest X.org
drivers and Linux 4.4 kernel with no issues.

5 out of 5 eggsIntel got it right

This review is from: Intel NUC6i3SYK Kit with 6th Generation Intel Core i3 Processor

Pros: - Small Form Factor
- Very quiet under idle, still quieter than a laptop under load
- Easy to install, solid design
- Perfect for web / e-mail / office use

Cons: - The free Avexir memory didn't work for me, and apparently another user also had issues. The NUC works great with any reputable memory vendor (I have built 2 using G. Skill, both are completely solid). You can't knock the NUC for having memory issues with bad memory sticks.

Other Thoughts: For those knocking the BIOS, perhaps they should read - this device supports Windows 10, Linux, and system fully supporting UEFI. Don't complain when you can't install your 6 year old OS on a newly designed system, and then give it bad reviews.

1 out of 5 eggsPromising but not stable yet

This review is from: Intel NUC6i3SYK Kit with 6th Generation Intel Core i3 Processor

Pros: Small footprint and the quietness.

Cons: This box just isn't ready for prime time as of the time of my review. I'm sending mine back. I tried installing Arch Linux, various flavors of Ubuntu, and finally even Windows 10. Every single OS install had issues. Arch had several memory related crashes, Ubuntu would never even get past formatting the disk, and Windows had a memory related crash every time I did anything other than open up Microsoft Edge and simply browse the internet.

Other Thoughts: Part of the problem might have been the RAM that I received with the box as a promo, but included RAM was a factor when buying this little guy so buying different RAM just isn't an option I'm open to in order to get this to work.

3 out of 5 eggsFirst one broke

This review is from: Intel NUC6i3SYK Kit with 6th Generation Intel Core i3 Processor

Pros: Its Small and strong for its size

Cons: There are bios bugs. Change the simplest thing from default settings like booting device for example is causing the POST to fail -- so i just leave it.

Other Thoughts: First one broke after 100 hours of use. Hardware fault -- couldn't load anything.
RMA took over a week =/

1 out of 5 eggsInconsistent Intel BIOS - FIX IT INTEL

This review is from: Intel NUC6i3SYK Kit with 6th Generation Intel Core i3 Processor

Pros: Compact

Cons: I previously installed Win-7 x64 from a Flash Drive on a NUC5i3RYK with absolutely no difficulty. However installation of Win-7 x64 on a NUC6i3SYK halts at STARTING WINDOWS. At this point, the NUC will cease to "see" any USB devices such as your Mouse & Keyboard)

INTEL - WHY DO YOUR NUC5's WORK WITH WIN-7's USB2.0 DRIVERS BUT YOUR NUC6's DO NOT??????? PEOPLE WHO PURCHASE NUC's DON'T WANT YOUR LAME EXCUSES. FIX YOUR BIOS.

Other Thoughts: Do not purchase a NUC6 until INTEL gets their act together, ACKNOWLEDGES THE PROBLEM, AND RELEASES A BIOS UPDATE TO MAKE THE NUC6 BIOS WORK WIT WIN-7 INSTALLS LIKE NUC5's.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy for Windows 7

This review is from: Intel NUC6i3SYK Kit with 6th Generation Intel Core i3 Processor

Pros: None

Cons: Can't get the machine to work with Windows 7. Even though INTEL has a work around to get Windows 7 to work, it still doesn't. This machine only has USB3 ports which Windows 7 does not support on installation.

4 out of 5 eggsApple should just put their logo & OS X on it

This review is from: Intel NUC6i3SYK Kit with 6th Generation Intel Core i3 Processor

Pros: This is a better Mac Mini than the Mac Mini. Intel has done it again with a really beautiful package. The 32GB RAM limit is very much appreciated. The DDR4 memory spec is fast. This machine can boot from NVMe if your operating system supports it. I played it safe and went with an M.2 SATA SSD since I bought this for a homelab and will use many different operating systems.

This machine is dead silent. Even with the fan running, if you put your hand on the lid you can feel the subtle hum of the fan. But you won't hear it. Any heat produced is also very gentle, very subtle. My new NUC does a good job of quietly remaining cool inside.

Cons: You can only fit one storage device inside. I'd give this five stars if I could put a second M.2 NVMe device in there. I'd like to give it five stars NOW, but there is room in the chassis for another. Intel, let's make it happen in the 7th gen!

Other Thoughts: I tried running this as a Hackintosh for giggles. It's not all there yet. Right now you can't use an HDMI display, but you can use a DisplayPort. There are other similar limitations.

I imagine I'm going to be grabbing a few more of these for my virtualization/container homelab. I'm primarily a Linux and UNIX user so I don't have any Windows observations. Ubuntu 15.10 works just fine on these.
