4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The smallest visually appealing case i could find with a parallel port and two expansion slots. Unfortunately they are only PCI, but that will do. The atom processor is faster than i expected. I've only run Pentiums and C2Ds in the past, so for a budget processor it surprised me. The case is not precision built as some interior panels need to be slightly bent for the holes to line up but it is still leaps and bounds above the usual Dell case. The case looks straight and true from the outside which is all that really matters. The finish is a course powdercoat looking finish on the sides/top/bottom and has a smooth flat black finish on the front. The integrated graphics are able to run the software i need despite it requiring a separate card (i was going to use the other PCI slot for this if needed). I like it enough that I'd buy another.

Cons: I wanted a matching case to house a CNC controller. Newegg doesn't sell just the case, so i had to get it elsewhere. It wasn't cheap. The fan is pretty weak, but it is easy to swap. I don't like the external power supply, but i think i can squeeze it into the case thanks to the hardware I'm running. I don't like the way the PCI cards mount to the outside of the case.

Other Thoughts: Outfitted with: 2GB 533mhz ram, 120GB 7200rpm 2.5" HDD mounted where the optical drive should go, Generic N wifi card (PCI), Windows 7.

1 out of 5 eggsCase Engineering Poor

Pros: None yet. Perhalps a VERY small WiFi card will work. I should probably see if it posts before going further.

Cons: They should hide the fact that the mobo has a PCI slot. I intended to put either a card with HDMI or DVI for video. Even with mods to the case, cutting the case lip and making a hole for the port, a card won't fit. If they had made it 1/4" taller perhaps.

Other Thoughts: Wish Asus would hurry up with the 208b that has HDMI onboard.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks; but needs improvment!

Pros: Mostly small, low cost, comes with case, motherboard, CPU and necessary cables. It built easily into low power UBUNTU 8.10 server.

Cons: External power brick, instead of using direct AC cabling. The CD tray door alignment is wrong. I had to mount the laptop CD drive with the sliding tray bezel external to the case to get it to open and close. The first unit I received had a faulty Ethernet connection and I had to RMA the unit. The system fan is loud; it could have had a better layout with better air flow and less noise.

Other Thoughts: I guess it is OK, what can you expect for the price! Newegg did a great job with the RMA!

4 out of 5 eggsNice little box

Pros: Nice, fast, quiet little barebones....all that was needed was a single memory card and hard drive. I (regretably) opted not to get the CD ROM. Windows XP installed nicely once I hooked up a CDROM directly to the motherboard (a USB cdrom spit out blue screen during install for me)

Cons: no HDMI. If it had HDMI, I'd probably use this cheap little guy for my HTPC.

Other Thoughts: I don't know much about Atom processors, but this one apparently has 4 cores. It's far from a gaming pc, but it does do well with desktop/thin client operations.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Well

Pros: Small, low heat, quiet, but not silent, Price! a computer minus hard drive and memory for such a low price...just buy it. Front panel USB ports. Comes with short cables to connect HD and ODD slim. Ready to go, just installed the memory and drive and booted it up with a USB flash installer...done.

Cons: Not the most attractive box. Why oh Why does it have a friggin parallel port? I'd rather take esata, an extra LAN or a couple of USB's.

Other Thoughts: This is not a powerhouse PC. Don't expect to play games or run any power apps. I'm running dns/dhcp and a couple of other services on it and it's fine. The guy talking about the buggy LAN drivers on previous posts must have been using a lower release of Ubuntu. This works with 8.10 server.

5 out of 5 eggsnice "green" home server

Pros: small, fast, cheap, low-power

Cons: built-in NIC a little dodgy with current Linux releases

Other Thoughts: I'm very happy with this. I put a 500 GB notebook drive
and 2 GB memory in and loaded Centos 5.2 from DVD.
There is some trouble with the NIC so be prepared to build
the driver yourself. Other than that, very very nice.
It does have fans, but they are very quiet.

1 out of 5 eggsnot so good

Pros: nice packaging, dual core atom

Cons: tight fit, come with SATA cable with power adapter not slim IDE adapter in description, mobo has pci slot but case has no expansion slot, inconsistent posting: had to clear bios which allow reboot only half of the time

Other Thoughts: will try piecing together intel atom 330 board and itx case which has bigger power supply
