5 out of 5 eggsVery impressive little PC

Pros: - Very capable
- Includes everything to be a full-fledged PC (except RAM and SSD)
- Very compact
- Noiseless
- Dual-NIC

Cons: - HDMI is only monitor output
- Doesn't run "hot" but does run "warm", so need to keep someplace with good air circulation

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for an inexpensive, full-fledged "mini-PC", it is hard for me to imagine doing much better than this. The price is right, and includes everything you need (understanding that it is a "barebone" unit, meaning you still need to provide RAM and a harddrive). We threw in a 160GB mSATA SSD and 4GM of RAM (about $100 total for the two), and then installed Debian 8 and had a pretty impressive little machine. Obviously don't expect this to do more than its processor is capable for, but as a "generic" PC, it does very well. I don't know how this would do as a WIndows-based machine, but I'd think pretty good. Might be the perfect basis for a very small foot print Media Player PC. As I noted, it does get "warm" but not "hot". So just keep in mind that it would not be well suited for a tight, confined space without air circulation. Nice that it has 4 USB ports (one a 3.0), WiFi, two GB NICs, and two HDMI outputs all built-in.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid unit

Pros: Solid construction
Easy access to internals
Easy to work in, seems to support larger chassis
Intel NICs
RS232
VESA mount in the box

Cons: Pretty loud coil whine
Wireless card isn't BSD native

Other Thoughts: I got this to run pfSense as a home/soho router box, and for that it seems very good. It isn't picky about boot devices, appears to be UEFI, and is reasonably performant.

It does have pretty loud coil whine, which you can hear with the bottom access panel off. With the panel on, I can only hear it in a very quiet environment. In my house doing its router duty, it's inaudible.

I would have paid a bit more money for an Intel WIFI card. There are no markings on the outside of the chassis for the NIC ports, so you'll have to take the access panel off in order to see the MACs for the ports.

Also be aware that, like a lot of these units, it requires the 1.35v ram.

After running for several hours, it is pretty warm. I don't have a thermometer, but I'd estimate 45C or so. I don't have any direct airflow over it though, and it is next to my cable modem, which gets pretty warm itself.
