4 out of 5 eggsThe Mighty Midget

Pros: This mini looked tiny under the christmas tree, but my sister loves it dearly. A systems administrator(and a lover of macs) came over to hook up the high speed internet for her and was blown away by how fast and responsive this little booger is. (had some registry modifications) Love it all the way

Cons: Zero room for any extras and had to guide wires and tie them back to make the case shut, but then again its soooo small! Smartfan can bring up cpu fan a litte loud when exercising the cpu, but then again, you get to choose what kind of cooler goes in this box. (can't use big cooler- no room!)

Other Thoughts: The reason why I gave it only a 4 is because the onboard graphics limits what this boy can do. The integrated graphics on my 2 year old laptop is better than what this has in it. Using G**gle earth, I get tearing of the screen- almost looks like static when there is motion- that's even with 64mb allocated to the graphics.

5 out of 5 eggsBuild one for your parents

Pros: Inexpensive. Nice sized case. Even comes with a CD-ROM.

Cons: What will I do with yet another CDROM? :-) Replaced it with a DVD player.

Other Thoughts: Makes a nice sub $xxx PC if you are not a gamer. Built this for my father-in-law. Paired it with:

512M PQI mem 20-141-167
Sempron 1.66G 19-104-203

Both from NewEgg.

Great way to recycle some old spare parts. Not a fan of onboard video, I put in my old Geforce MX4000 card. Added a used 40GB drive which is more than enough for my folks.

Been very stable.

4 out of 5 eggsSleeper Machine

Pros: Very small, but not too small like a shuttle, very good for the price. I was able to make a sleeper machine using spare parts.

Cons: When packed full using all the bays and both pci and agp slot, its a little cramed.

Other Thoughts: System specs:

AMD Athlon 2500+ XP 1.87Ghz 512k
Cooled by Cool Master
1.25 GB DDR 333
100 GB WD 7200 RPM hard disk
ATI RADEON 9600 XT video
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS

5 out of 5 eggsNice liitle system

Pros: Great system if you have a spare socket "a" cpu. It is for people that just want to surf the web, email, photo editing, and word processing. It is not a system I would recommend for gamers.

Cons: The power supply is proprietary and is rated at only 165watts, so the latest 8X video card would overtax it.

Other Thoughts: Great value for the money. I installed XP pro, 1mb of Kingston Value RAM, 80G Samsung Hard Drive, and a Athlon XP1700 that I had, and have never had a BSOD or any other problem.

1 out of 5 eggsBiggest waste of time I've ever owned

Pros: Very affordable. If you're lucky, you won't have any problems.

Cons: I have never had so many problems with a barebone kit in my life. The first one I got had a bad IDE controller, so ASUS sent me a replacement (neglecting to include the snap-on part of the mobo at the top). Half the time the new one fails to post, and when it *is* willing to boot up to the Windows 2000 I installed, the driver CD (even with autorun disabled) crashes the OS. If I wasn't on a college budget I'd throw the thing out the window and go get me a real barebone kit. I'm writing this on a public computer as I transfer the ethernet drivers to floppy and crossing my fingers that this will work.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible

Pros: None

Cons: Doesn't power on

Other Thoughts: I purchased one, installed the hardware, plugged it in, and nothing happened. Returned it for a replacement, and the replacement is no different. No power.

4 out of 5 eggsNice little box

Pros: It is a nice little box, great computer for kids.

Cons: BIOS is picky. On default memory settings memtest86 showed errors. Once I have set memory timings manualy system was OK.

Other Thoughts: I have coupled it with Sempron 2200+ and Geil DDR400 512MB of RAM, all from newegg. This is my second Asus Terminator PC.

4 out of 5 eggsNice, small package

Pros: Nice, small package - quiet, came with drives, very cheap, lovely miniaturization

Cons: tough to work in tight space, lack of cable management enabled IDE cable to hit cooling fan - could cause overheating if not careful

Other Thoughts: I really like it - bought it for my mom for a failing MB or PS. Easier and cheaper to do this than troubleshoot further...

4 out of 5 eggsNice li'l ASUS gem

Pros: Nice little barebones unit. Just slap in a Sempron, a 512 MB stick, an HDD and you're ready to go. I was up & running in no time. A breeze to work with.

Cons: The fan is a little loud and the innards could get crampedif you choose to install an AGP or PCI card (I didn't). But for a simple low-budget PC this isn't bad at all.

Other Thoughts: I built this up for my Mom, as a replacement for her aged Gateway P3 running Win ME. What a difference! And NewEgg shipped it to me in no time at all.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Small and compact.

Cons: THis was a replacement for the same product, which had a bad power supply. This one works wonderfully and will do good good for my friends Grandmother for some to go.
