5 out of 5 eggsGreat little PC but not for beginners

This review is from: ASUS Vivo Mini UN62-M037M, Intel Core i5 4210U, supports 32GB/128GB/256GB mSATA SSD, Intel HD Graphics 4400, Black Color, No OS

Pros: Very small and compact
Dead silent
Plenty fast enough for non-engineering or less-than-hard-core gaming
VESA mount is great; this thing is out of site and out of mind on the back of my monitor.

Cons: No driver disk included; I had to download all the drivers required from the Internet. Some of the drivers downloaded from Asus specifically for this model did not work so I had to also get drivers from Realtek, Intel, and even Dell to clear all errors from Device Manager - thus, this barebones version is not for beginners. Beginners that want this mini PC should get a fully loaded version including Windows.
The power supply is a bit of a problem. The folding AC plug (presumably folding for travel) leaves all of the weight and leverage of the long-side of the power supply pulling against it and sticking into the room. At least the plug should have been in a position to mount flat against the wall with less leverage pulling the supply. I have to push the power supply back in from time to time. Earlier versions had a standard laptop style AC cord.
For what I am going to use this, 16GB of RAM is OK but I do wish it would support 32GB
Not really sure this is a con but I'll put it here, anyway: When you put it in the VESA mount, the air vents are on the mount side rather than on the open side. I haven't had heat problems yet but it would have made more sense to keep the vents open.

Other Thoughts: Specs say max 256GB SSD but I have a 500GB SSD in mine and it sees it all. I'll try a 1TB when I can.
Overall, this is a great little PC for all who are not engineers or hard-core gamers. Honestly, I don't know why anyone else would by anything else - except the drivers issues make it so beginners should buy the fully complete versions including OS.

I remember when the first Compaq IPaq desktops came out. I was so impressed with the small size I replaced every PC in a 500 seat call center with them. This Asus Vivo Mini is only about 5 per cent of the overall volume of that original IPaq. If I were buying for a large business today, this would be what I would buy for all except the most demanding functions.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: ASUS Vivo Mini UN62-M037M, Intel Core i5 4210U, supports 32GB/128GB/256GB mSATA SSD, Intel HD Graphics 4400, Black Color, No OS

Pros: Fast.
Silent.
Virtually not setup time.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: This is a great little machine. I have it configured with 16G of ram and 1T drive. I am running Ubuntu 14. The machine is used for Android development, which means lots of disk IO and memory usage (the Java VM needs to go on a diet). For the price you cannot beat this machine.

Won't work. Went to online the first tech told me I needed to charge the battery for 4 hrs,(so I did ) (nothing) the second time on line tech said I needed to send it back so I did (said nothing wrong everyting cks out good) (still wont boot) third tech had me buy the wrong HD. Finaly took it to the Geek squad the man said the 2 HDMI ports arnt working. Now I'm over 500.00 and it still won't work so I suppose Ill go back on line with their fine techs and see if I cant send it back to ASUS again maby with the G/S 's paper work telling them whats wrong ASUS will be able to fix it.

Other Thoughts: Buy a MINI MAC!

2 out of 5 eggsWARNING - Display Port is not pass 4K!!!

This review is from: ASUS Vivo Mini UN62-M037M, Intel Core i5 4210U, supports 32GB/128GB/256GB mSATA SSD, Intel HD Graphics 4400, Black Color, No OS

Pros: Form factor and quiet fan, but that’s about all.

Cons: Bought and returned one after another, totaling 3. Yes, all 3 units!!!!. I even sent one of the units free of charge to ASUS for repair. They replaced the motherboard, which was easy to spot due to them leaving the battery connected but not secured so it was flopping around. I easily fixed it using double sided tape. After the repair the unit was still defective so I returned it as well. This leads me to believe it’s a design flaw. Why?

1. Display Port will not go higher than 2556 X 1440 resolution no matter what. I connected each unit to 4 different monitors currently displaying 4K while connected to other PC’s. The highest the UN62 will go is 2556 X 1440 unless you use the HDMI port.
2. Another design flaw. If you are using the Display Port you cannot use the USB port closest to the front of the unit. Any USB device is this port causes the monitor to flicker and makes the USB device connected to it work only intermittently.
3. ASUS support used to be phenomenal, one of their biggest strengths, now it is garbage. With about 4 hours total in phone support via phone and email…..each tech is located outside the country trying to solve the problem by reading the manual back to me. Hello….that’s not tech support.
4. Card reader driver the Intel Mgmt drivers from ASUS website are corrupt. When trying to install Realtek card reader it states the driver is corrupt. The Intel Mgmt states it’s not viable with this device. Way to go ASUS. The easy fix is to go to Realtek and Intel’s site and get the drivers directly.

4 out of 5 eggsTook a little bit to get running

This review is from: ASUS Vivo Mini UN62-M037M, Intel Core i5 4210U, supports 32GB/128GB/256GB mSATA SSD, Intel HD Graphics 4400, Black Color, No OS

Pros: Small and quiet. Plays well with my 4k monitor on both HDMI and Display port.

Cons: I had a bit of a hard time with Windows 8.1. The network didn't work right away. I pulled a wireless card from an old laptop, got online and the updates fixed the network.

Other Thoughts: Windows struggled but Linux worked like a charm. It is usually the other way around.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Little PC.

This review is from: ASUS Vivo Mini UN62-M037M, Intel Core i5 4210U, supports 32GB/128GB/256GB mSATA SSD, Intel HD Graphics 4400, Black Color, No OS

Pros: The Intel Haswell i5 The small foot print is pretty sweet for the power you get.

Cons: I haven't run into any yet

Other Thoughts: Don't forget the RAM and storage. 16 GB RAM and 256 GB storage max it out. You will also need a wireless adapter to enjoy WiFi.
