4 out of 5 eggsAs a Linux HTPC

Pros: Small & Sleek
Hardware Video Decoder (Broadcom Crystal HD BCM71005)
HDMI Output

Cons: Max 1366x768 resolution
Max 4GB Ram
RAM/HD install somewhat difficult
No USB 3.0

Other Thoughts: I gave this a ranking of 4 stars based on it meeting my wants, which was making a Linux based HTPC. The one big drawback it has to that end is the lack of 1080p resolution. For me this doesn't matter as the largest resolution of any of my digital media is 720p due to the difference in filesize. If I wanted 1080p I would have probably scored this a 2 or 3.

The big secret to this one which isn't mentioned at all in the specs as I recall (but is in some other feedbacks) is the CrystalHD Video Decoder. It handles video decoding of most all of your common formats (but not upcoming formats like H265 and VP9). The quickest and easiest way to take advantage of this is getting the Generic OpenELEC image which supports it.

There is another Foxconn Booksize system with an ATI/AMD chipset that's about $20 more as of the time of this writing as I recall. I elected not to get this one because the proprietary linux driver provided by AMD is pure garbage but if you're thinking of making a Windows based HTPC you may want to consider that one.

Lastly, I've read some reviews that say it has pretty bad memory compatibility. I put some G.SKILL 4GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1066 in mine and that worked. I just grabbed the lowest speed one available since this is limited to 800Mhz anyway but I'd guess any DDR3 SO-DIMM from G.Skill would work. If you browse the other feedbacks I believe I saw some success stories with some other brands too.

4 out of 5 eggsMust Chime In

Pros: This is a great form factor to turn any pre-smart TV - smart. Has plenty inputs for even the most savvy techno-geek. Does 64 bit with grace.

Cons: Support is rather limited so that is where the value of Newegg comes in. Hibernation is given new meaning on this unit. The GMA 3150 is strangled when it comes to Linux distros.

Other Thoughts: Had to post after reading ALL the memory woes. I have just 1 one solution to offer. Actually it is a Microsoft brainchild -Ready Boost. Git yourself some " quality " SDHC memory ,use the card slot, and assign the 4 Gb SD card to Ready Boost. You may be smitten. I do know it acts as a hard drive cache, but in lieu of a SSD this is by far the less
expensive solution. I picked up Kingston HCSD in the 4Gb
volume for $4.20. Plugged them into every laptop I own running Windows Vista and later. Sweeeet !

4 out of 5 eggsPretty decent machine

Pros: Works well, installed Windows Server 2008R2 Standard on this one to use as a network management computer. No problems doing a generic instal from disk and using the Windows 7 64 bit drivers to get everything working. The free SSD was a definite bonus. Does everything I need and does it quickly, Group Policy editing, Active Directory work, no issues with remotely working on any parts of my main network.

Cons: Wish it had the ability to use more RAM, would like 8Gb.

Other Thoughts: This is the third of these computers that I've bought with several months between purchases. The other two are used for various different things in testing before I step up to more expensive machine that need to handle heavier loads. So far so good.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little PC for making your TV more useful!

Pros: Very thin, nice casing, and plug placement. Comes with VESA mount "holster" to easily slide onto the back of most monitors or tv's. Comes with 64GB SSD Hard drive. Solid Intel ATOM technology. (I have always loved this line of tech, very reliable.) Don't forget to pickup some RAM to complete your build.

Cons: Had an issue with not receiving my free SSD drive. Had a short chat with Marie at NewEgg customer service, and she is having a drive sent right out to me. I am very happy with their fair handling of things. I have several NewEgg accounts for different customers, and have always had a positive experience with this company. Will continue to be my favored distributor for computer stuff!

5 out of 5 eggsPowerful little boxes

Pros: I purchased 19 of these for workstations along with G.Skill 4gb memory modules. Every single one of these booted right up without a single issue. The 1.8ghz dual core atom surpassed my expectations. Power saving is amazing compared to the Pentium 4 computers these replaced.

Cons: Opening the housing can be difficult the first time. Sometimes the screws don't come out all the way and they will bind and make it difficult as you're prying the case open with a small flat-head. I also had to disable "Hard Sleep" in the bios as the workstations were not going to sleep and staying on 24/7. although this might be an WinXP issue. Also the built in speaker is kind of cheap and has a tinny sound to it. None of that is enough to justify removing any points though

4 out of 5 eggsAmazing for the price

Pros: Very small, very quiet. I am running Windows Server 2012 and it installed with no issues. All the Windows 7 64bit drivers worked fine. While it is not a screamer, it beats the heck out of the Monster tower with a pendium 3.6ghz. I am currently just using it as a DHCP and WINS server. That was its intent. May add more services later.

Cons: Failed all attempts to install Windows Server 2008. Documentation is non-existent.

Other Thoughts: I only paid $159 for this box and that included a 64gig SSD drive. So I really only paid about $80 for the box. How could I go wrong for a dual core multi-threaded box? The next one I may try the AMD processor, but this was a great purchase!

4 out of 5 eggsNot DOA after all

Pros: Cheap & Small - Quick support.

Cons: This is an update on what I thought was a DOA....
It is just really picky about what ram it takes.
"CORSAIR 4GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Laptop Memory Model CM3X4GSD1066 G" does not work in this system. I put a CORSAIR 2GB ram stick in it and it posted.

1 out of 5 eggsWon't Post - DOA

Pros: Low Cost - very small.

Cons: Won't Post... Checked Manual and the light that is blinking means it is a CPU initialization error.... I guess DOAs are common with this model? ...I have submited a support request with foxcon... will keep you posted on what happens.

Manufacturer Response:

Please confirm the LED# again. If LED#2 is blinking(blue) then the unit is not recognizing the RAM stick. Please try another RAM stick or re-seat the RAM stick again.

4 out of 5 eggsDude, it's not a Dell!

Pros: Does what I need it to do. (HMI applications, status boards, etc). Works fine with 4GB G.Skill (Newegg P/N N82E16820231265) with no issues.

Cons: Weak CMOS battery on a few. Battery type is CR2032CL-58, which is not commercially available-- unless you want to buy 150 of them. That's why one egg is knocked off. Not all is lost, though. Read below...

Other Thoughts: I sometimes despair of people who write these reviews claiming to have high tech knowledge, but provide no details. For heaven's sake, at least tell us what you tried! Knowledge is power, and all that...

I have about a dozen of these in-house in all sorts of applications, one of them in our meeting/training room. Most are in HMI/SCADA applications. These are not speed demons, but the are dual core, low-power Atoms. Running XP on some, Win7 x64 on some, Ubuntu on a few others.

Note/Disclaimer: I'm about to mention another reseller, but only as a source of a suitable replacement CMOS battery. Actually, they're really not even a competitor to Newegg, but the usual disclaimers should still apply. This is only in an effort to help readers effect repairs on these units and avoid unnecessary frustrations. The reviewer takes no responsibility for what y'all do with the information. Consider yourselves warned... ;)

Now, the aforementioned batteries. If you're savvy enough to use a soldering iron, you can remove the leads from the old battery and solder them onto a CR-2032L/F1N battery, as they have the solder tabs on them already and is a quick fix. Available from DigiKey (P/N P668-ND). DO NOT TRY to do this with a regular CR2032 by soldering directly to the battery. It's a good way to ruin it. Use the one I mentioned (As of this writing they have a little over 20,000 in stock) and save some headache.
