3 out of 5 eggsFalls short

Pros: the concept is great love the sd card slot and choice of hdmi/vga onboard exterior audio speaker, good enough for basic computing

Cons: the video is horrendous! streaming even low quality videos is choppy and not even worth it. it is a little slow but i expected it to take a few seconds to get from page to page or open apps

Other Thoughts: if this had better video it would be great for a portable low power device. even install it in your car or tailgating vehicle! there are other models out there that put this to shame. it works and its just the intel video they selected could have been so much more but it missed the mark. i have an ssd in it. i cant imagine a regular HD in it boot times and installations would be even more painful. it kinda just sits there and i hook it up to a monitor when i feel like messing with it but im really just wasting my time.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdated Review

Pros: After running this box for 6 months on Windows 2008 R2 X64 I am still very pleased with it.

Draws between 15 and 20 watts even with an external 1TB USB 2.0 drive attached and my Serviio media server streaming to 2 devices. $15/year in power, so no guilt leaving it running 24/7

Since my TVs can stream from a DLNA server, I don't care that the video will not do full HDMI. I just run it headless and stream over the wire.

Single wire for power and I can put it anywhere in the house (or even take it with me when I travel or go to friends). Very tidy.

Gets warm, not hot, even with the fanless box.

Cons: Linux is non-trivial on this box due to Intel's lack of support for Video drivers on the Intel Atom in general.

Other Thoughts: Windows 2008 R2 X64 were the only Windows drivers that would work for a server class OS, so go X64 even though it has max 6GB of RAM just for the driver support.

I also run an FTP server, Squid Proxy and a BigFix server on this little box without any real performance complaints.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid performance as an HTPC

Pros: Easy install. Previous reviewers had complained about difficulties in opening the case. My suggestion - make sure your Philips screwdriver fits snugly before you turn. Once the case is opened, installing SO-DIMM and 2.5" drive is a breeze. Windows 7 64-bit loaded through a USB DVD drive. Media Center works great with HD Homerun Prime. HD channels and MP4 files play smoothly without lag or pixelation. Great value at $100+. Free Media Center remote and receiver in a promotion.

Cons: HDMI maxes out at 720p or 1366x768. Included display driver/utility "Chrontel" loads at start-up and stays in the foreground .

Other Thoughts: Seems to cool better with convection in vertical position

4 out of 5 eggsLots of bang for the buck

Pros: All the connectivity and cpu horsepower you need for common tasks in a very sleek package. I was able to run ubuntu 13.10 amd64 without issue, even some buttons of the included IR remote work such as volume control. I paired it with corsair 4gb ram (N82E16820233080) , and crucial 120gb ssd (N82E16820148693), and logitech c615 webcam (N82E16826104469). It takes 15 seconds flat to boot to login prompt, or shutdown from login prompt.

Cons: The hard drive cradle has 4 screw holes to secure the drive, of course. I don't think there's a screwdriver small enough to get in there... you'll need to remove it to securely mount the disk.

The eye candy that is enabled by default in ubuntu really takes a toll on the responsiveness of the desktop. If you disable all the window animation it runs a lot smoother. It's not a show stopper, but just enough lag/choppiness to be annoying. I suspect if you used Xubuntu or something like that it would be a lot more responsive.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Compact. and quiet. Wireless N works nice.

Cons: Would be nice to have instructions on how to open the case!

Other Thoughts: Works good with VGA monitor. When I hook it up to HDMI TV it works for a second and I see the Win 7 desktop. Then the TV goes black and complains about an unsupported device.

2 out of 5 eggsGood... but not what we needed

Pros: Works great with windows 8.1 64 bit
Very small
Surprisingly fast, nothing amazing but it didn't lag all the time.
Used CORSAIR 4GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Laptop Memory Model CM3X4GSD1066 G - Works great

Cons: Does not support 1080p - We are using it as a conference room computer and it wouldn't fill up the screen. Support suggested a program they provide that emulates 1080 but the quality is terrible.
So we bought i2847 as foxconn support said it supports 1080.
Only 2 eggs because the description needs to say all this. No where in the description does it say only 720. So we had to do trial and error which was annoying.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid on win2008r2x64

Pros: Very pleased with this little box. I wanted a small server to host a web app at home that would not kill my electric bill. This little one does the trick. Running windows 2008 r2 x64 flawlessly using the Win 7 drivers.
I tossed in 4gb memory and since I wanted to keep power consumption down, a 120gb SSD. I run it headless sitting right next to my router. It barely gets warm. Beautiful case. Boots quick.

Cons: Not quite enough CPU to use for transcoding while streaming. serviio seems to peg the CPU and I get some stutters.
Only UBS2.0.
External power brick
Case challenging to get into and a bit flimsy.
Windows 2008 x32 - could not get any drivers to work.(real time killer that was)
Was no instructions for opening case or installing memory and drive.

Other Thoughts: Despite some false starts on initial setup, I find this little box a joy to work with.

5 out of 5 eggsfoxconn

Pros: I need a windows computer with windows7 to run my machine tools. The size of Foxconn saves me from buying a separate electrical enclosure for the computer, I simply put it in with the monitor. I have 5 of these now, and for machine tools they are the best!

Cons: no cons from me.
