2 out of 5 eggsfail after 3 months, wish it could live longer...

Pros: Small foam factor, easy to install, easy to work with, lot of useful port (HDMI, DVI, VGA, lot of USB port, front USB port, memory card reader) really sweet looking with the front LED

Cons: Short Sata Cable, defect CD rom door, decent speed CPU, unit completely fail after 3 months

Other Thoughts: Just like everyone says, the Sata cable is short, but didn't bother me since i got lot of spare from my past building computers, CD rom drive door drop open, there is no spring on it, a defect, and the unit just fail to turn on after 3 months, checked all my parts, all good, so I am sure the motherboard fail some how, will see if Foxconn willing to replace the unit.

5 out of 5 eggsFollow-up

Pros: Very quiet
Performs very well as a htpc
Very fun to build with
Runs pretty cool, even in a hot room
Love the glow bar on the front, but can see how others might get annoyed by it. Think of it as a night light

Cons: The sata cables that came packaged are most certainly too short. But I have never seen cables that short before and found better uses for them in another PC in the house.

Other Thoughts: Following up from a previous post. The network driver that I installed from the pre-packaged disk was turning into a nightmare. Random disconnects, no connections, choppy/stuttering playback, wasn't fun.
I went ahead and installed the latest drivers (5/22/12) direct from the Realtek website. Restarted, and instantly all problems went away!
Excellent product! Just get the latest network drivers, everything else is perfect.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valuable customer,

Thank you for purchasing Foxconn products and taking the time to provide us with valuable feedback, especially about the lan driver.

Your business is appreciated.

3 out of 5 eggsSeems ok for the price

Pros: Inexpensive, quiet-ish. Fairly straightforward install, not roomy but not cramped. The HDD install requires you to move some cables out of the way, which isn't part of the instruction. It also needs to be installed upside down.

Cons: Very short SATA cables, neither the long one, which is supposed to be for the optical drive, barely reached the hard drive. Thank goodness I'm not using the ODD bay. Also, one of the faceplate tabs came missing, or is malformed, because it does not attach to the chassis and leaves a gap around the case. Not. Huge issue, but it looks crummy...

Other Thoughts: Seems to be a good unit. Haven't tested the rest because I just put the thing together after waiting two months for a ram deal.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat little htpc

Pros: Price
Performance (plays all 1080 videos just fine in WMC)
Size perfect for a bedroom htpc
Quiet
Wife approval through the roof! I replaced all DVD, blu-ray and cable boxes in the house in favor for htpcs in every room. And my wife loves this little box the most out of all of them.

Cons: Networking - I can't tell where the issue lies. Every once in a while the nic just goes "done!" and drops connection. It's the only pc out of 7 in the house that does this. I used the driver that came with the disk. Might try drivers straight from the manufacturer and see if it helps.

Other Thoughts: I didn't have a slim DVD drive to try and use in this to see if it would help with the DVD button issue. However, a couple small stacked strips of duct tape on the inside fixes the problem.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valuable customer,

Thank you for purchasing Foxconn products and taking the time to provide us with valuable feedback. Your business is appreciated.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks with a few quirks

Pros: Low power and can run the everyday stuff. Probably will make an awesome Windows Home Server machine.

Cons: 1. Short SATA cable - I have a bunch of extra lying around so this is not an issue for me.
2. VGA output distort a little bit on my display (I see a little jaggies on fine line etc) - didn't have time to investigate further as I just use the HDMI. Better connection anyway.
3. Obnoxious bright front led. I unplugged mine.
4. A little loud system fan. Will look around for a quieter option.
5. Would have been nice if the system came with WiFi built on.

Other Thoughts: Add 8GB of RAM, 120GB SSD, and 1.5TB HD lying around. Runs Win8 like a champ. May use it in the future as a Windows Home Server box. Would have given 4 eggs but the barebone system was CHEAP. Overall, a little quirks here and there but works - Newbies may have some problems due to these little quirks.

1 out of 5 eggsIs it bad luck?

Pros: Price (purchased for $95)

Cons: Short lifespan

Other Thoughts: I purchased this barebone system less than 3 weeks ago. Just put xbmc on less than a week ago. Today, I was no longer able to turn this PC on. No lights, no nothing. Totally silence. Don't know if it is a bad power supply or something. Is it just bad luck? $95 for 3 weeks (actually 1 week of use) is too expensive to me.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valuable customer,

First of all, we do apologize for the inconvenience. If system fan is not spinning at all, we believe the power supply could be defective. For troubleshooting, if possible please try it with another ATX power supply (set outside the case) to see if it can power up the system. If system can power again with another ATX power supply, this will confirm that the original power supply is defective. For RMA, you can call 909-978-6556 (M-F from 830am to 530pm Pacific Times) to setup a return for the defective power supply.

Thank you so much.

Best regards,
Foxconn support team.

4 out of 5 eggsFoxconn SFF R40-A1 Barebone

Pros: Good entry level Barebone system.
Add 4 GB Kingston RAM and a Samsung DVD burner.
Install Windows 8 Preview Release without any problem.
For the price what I paid for when it was on sale, it is a good product.

Cons: Short SATA cables.

Manufacturer Response:
