1 out of 5 eggsHorrible, horrible product

Pros: None

Cons: Ordered the original, and the box someone how either used or not puttogether right, missing the PCIe slot in the back of the case. Received RMA, and after received the new BIOS chip from Foxconn, used multiple processors, CPU fans, and memory modules, and the stupid thing won't POST at all!!!

Other Thoughts: There is a big reason that Foxconn has a horrible reputation. My first purchase of a Foxconn product and I will never purchase Foxconn again! Only gave it one egg because I had to in order to put up the review

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Neat and organized case, helpful setup instructions.

Cons: Hassle to get working, most likely due to the BIOS update I need to order from Foxconn. I still haven't worked that out yet.

Other Thoughts: Power cable was in the 5-inch drive bay, I was panicking before that thinking there was no power cable included.

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage Product, Garbage Support

Pros: None, it's DOA.

Cons: Can't get any response from Foxconn other than "call the RMA number"...which no one ever answers.

Other Thoughts: Because of the holidays, the 30 day return window has expired. That's my bad but this is just beyond absurd trying to get support. Seriously considering pulling the drive, memory, and CPU and throwing the rest away.

5 out of 5 eggsMade a great little web proxy

Pros: I made this box into a web proxy appliance. I put a 500GB SATA 3G/s drive in it, along with a 4GB DIMM and a i7 CPU. It runs very quietly (unlike the enterprise-class 2Us I have), has been reliable and had continuous up-time for 5 months now (as of this writing).

Cons: Tight spaces to work with, but that's the nature of a SFF, and not the fault of this product.

Other Thoughts: My hardware build is very minimal, and the software does not put a big demand on it. The sale prices on this are usually very good. I spent < $70 and as of this posting it is < $65.

5 out of 5 eggsMuch closer to perfect

Pros: Compact size, inexpensive, easy to build, SATA cables included

Cons: spartan appearance, no mount for 2.5" SSD

Other Thoughts: This is a follow-up from my earlier feedback. I bought an Ivy Bridge processor so had to wait for a new BIOS chip. Called Foxconn support on Wednesday afternoon and the chip was here the following Monday. 5 eggs to Foxconn for the prompt service.

The BIOS chip is a small 8-pin IC that sits in a socket so it is easy to replace. When I did that, the machine booted up promptly and asked for a boot disk. Win7 Home Premium installed with no issues.

I did have to specifically update the video driver. I did that in Device Manager and let it find the driver. It did and installed the latest software for the Intel 4000 hardware that is part of the Intel Core i3 3225.

My hardware:

* Intel Core i3 3225 @ 3.3G
* 8G G.SKILL 1333 RAM
* 500G Seagate SATA II disk
Sony CD/DVD Optical Disk
* Foxconn RM3-H2 barebones
Acer 1920x1080 display

My Windows Experience Index is 5.9 - much higher than I expected. Screen is sharp and responds well. The animations in the included games are smooth and clear.

The items with the asterisks are what I bought for this system and my bill was just over $300 with no tax and no shipping.

I'm a happy and satisfied customer.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: None since I have not received the updated BIOS chip to even start using it

Cons: DOA without the update BIOS chip. I called their RMA number numerous times but no one answered the calls so I left a message. It's been almost 2 weeks and nothing. I sent an email to their support link and was told to call that number again. This is just ridiculous! Why give out a number that no one seems to bother listening to? Why can't they just mail the this thing to me instead of asking me to call that number again? I did put my address in the email that I sent to the tech support link.

2 out of 5 eggsI chose poorly

Pros: I don't detect any radioactivity coming from it.

Cons: Should have read about all of the BIOS issues before buying, that's on me. Now I'm trying to call the number Foxconn provided in other posts, and it goes to voice mail every time. This is ABSURD. Guess I'll have to use their support website and hope for the best. Never again.

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for.

4 out of 5 eggsNice, easy, and attractive, once you get past the BIOS issue

Pros: I like the look of this case, and the price was quite nice for Black Friday.

Install of the parts was easy and the quick install sheet looked helpful, but I ended up not needing it. Came with plenty of screws and even a few small zipties.

My Ivy Bridge i3 CPU goes great with it (after I get the BIOS updated, see below), and it makes a nice HTPC.

Worked out of the box with Ubuntu Linux. In fact, I just took the hard disk out of my ancient HTPC and put it in this one, and it came up just fine.

Cons: WARNING: REQUIRES A BIOS UPDATE TO USE IVY BRIDGE CPUs! That's any CPU whose 4-digit product number begins with a 3 (e.g. i5-3570). Without the update fans will spin but there will be no video output and the board will appear DOA. Some of the other reviews suggest it needs it for Sandy Bridge CPUs too (they begin with a 2) but I can't confirm it.

Fortunately the BIOS chip is removable, and Foxconn will happily send you an updated one, just call their RMA number that other reviews have provided.

I called them, and I eventually got it working, but getting the chip was a comedy of errors. First there were a few understandable delays due to the holidays, and I had a tough time giving my address to the strong-accented fellow on the other end of a noisy phone line. Then they sent the updated chip to the wrong zip code, meaning it took almost two weeks to arrive. They also sent the chip in an simple envelope without sufficient padding, so the pins were all completely bent out of shape. Fortunately none of them were broken off, so the chip was still usable. I just had to painstakingly straighten the pins out, one by one, over the course of half an hour, all the while chuckling darkly to myself.

After that it did work nicely though, so I guess I can't complain too much.

Also, thumb screws for the top cover would have been nice.

4 out of 5 eggsAlmost perfect

Pros: Inexpensive, support for Ivy Bridge, nice quiet compact size

Cons: No POST so far

Other Thoughts: RM3-H2 with I3-3225 Ivy Bridge and 8G RAM. No POST and no video. I tried swapping RAM sticks and using only one but it didn't help. I submitted a report to Foxconn support in hopes of further progress.

It is a very quiet box and assembly went well. It is a tight fit in a couple of spots but it all works.

I based this purchase on an article on The Verge about building your own gaming PC. Let's hope it all works out.

Manufacturer Response:

If you are using an Ivy Bridge processor then it will require an Ivy Bridge BIOS revision otherwise it does not post. But you can call 714-626-6909 for a replacement BIOS chip. Our hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 830am-530pm, PST, excluding public holidays.

Best regards,
Foxconn support team
