3 out of 5 eggs32 bit only

Pros: I own a previous Foxconn nettop box and love it. So I decided to build another for my brother. It's quiet, pretty fast with 4gb ram and very small.

Cons: To my surprise after loading Win 7 Home 64 bit there are no drivers available for the video card. This makes the video performance very choppy when watching video. I find out they're suggestion is to load windows 7 32 bit. Why make a processor that runs at 64 bit but use a 32 bit operating system.

Other Thoughts: I wish I would have known this before purchasing. I wouldn't have done it.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We apologize for the inconvenience. However, Intel did NOT provide 64bit drivers for it.

Best regards,
Foxconn support team.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Video

Pros: Not many.

Cons: Extremely poor video playback. Netflix and Hulu do not work properly. CPU takes all the load for Silverlight and Flash as well as locally encoded media and due to Intel driver issues DXVA will not function properly. Tried to return to order the Next Model up but return policy doesn't allow that. My fault for not reading the policy prior to ordering. So stuck now with a $150 paperweight.

Other Thoughts: Overall can't recommend due to the limitations on Playback.

Manufacturer Response:

We apologize for the inconvenience. NT-i1200 cannot play 1080p video. But it should be able to handle 720p. For further assistance, please submit your email to the link below.

Best regards,
Barebone support team.

3 out of 5 eggsNot for HTPC

Pros: Nice small, quiet package for low cost. Reasonable quality build. With SSD drive it loads and runs Windows 7 quickly. Good for browsing web and mail.

Cons: Slow video. XBMC could not run DVD quality at all, standard def was choppy. Web streams also choppy. No video driver for 64-bit Windows.

4 out of 5 eggs*nix support

Pros: compact, simple, straight forward.

Cons: no 3D video support in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Will not boot to FreeBSD GPT disk.

Other Thoughts: I JUST started using this, so I cannot speak to long term use yet.

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Install went smoothly, wireless did not work until we installed all of the updates. No 3D support for graphics.

FreeBSD 9.1. Would not boot after the default install, I had to do a custom partition, and label the disk using MBR rather than GPT. I could not get it to boot on GPT at all. I dont know if this is freeBSD specific problem with GPT, or if Linux GPT install would cause the same problems.

Also, I tried to install FreeBSD 9.0 first, and the graphics were very buggy, and I had to keep manually redrawing the screen (CTRL+L) during the install.

I will update this post if I find other things that I feel would be helpfull to others.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good Pc at a great price.

Pros: It is a good pc for what its built for. Dont expect to play any games on it. I knew what to expect when buying it. Runs extremely quiet. I installed the ssd and 4gb 1066 ram and windows 7 professional 32 bit.

Cons: Its a little choppy at times and not 64 bit.

Other Thoughts: If they would make it 64 bit compatible then it would be alot better. But it is worth the price for sure.

4 out of 5 eggsSo far so good...

Pros: It is small, smaller than the Nintendo Wii. Has 2 front USB 3.0 ports, and 4 USB 2.0

Cons: Doesn't support Win 7 64-Bit, which was a bummer as it only supports upto 4GB of RAM which lost on Win 7 32-bit.

Other Thoughts: For the price, and that a 64GB SSD was also included, I say it is a steal. Next step, get it so it can dual-boot Win 7 and Raspberry Pi.

1 out of 5 eggscompletely useless

Pros: none if the blasted thing doesn't work

Cons: Only works with Win 7x32

Other Thoughts: this isn't Foxconn's fault, it is intel... in a rare miss, they totally f'd up on their GMA 3600 support. You can possibly get Linux working with the Meego driver, but it's going to be a pain. I'm not paying for a f'ng Win 7 license for this when I can go out and buy a Dell / HP / etc machine that comes with a license for less than the cost of this piece of garbage

1 out of 5 eggspiece of junk

Pros: Small formfactor, good linux driver support

Cons: Eithernet port failed after approximately 3 weeks. Foxconn is charging me to ship it back which is going to cost more than 10% of the cost of the unit, plus waiting a month to get the new unit.

Other Thoughts: Terrible quality + worse RMA process = stay away from this thing. You should never have to pay to send a defective unit back to the manufacturer.

4 out of 5 eggsFollowup

Pros: - With a BIOS update, Java is functional. BIOS update provided from Foxconn site, CPU Microcode update patches the Java issue. Still stable, silent, functional.

Cons: - Does not appreciate Main menu has corrupt visuals, game plays incredibly slow, mobs black, etc.

- Overall, 3D performance will not be acceptable for much. Given the issues Minecraft had, I expect rendering issues in most software.

Other Thoughts: - Minecraft patched with Optifine runs CONSIDERABLY better, but still bluescreened the system within short order. A good buy for a side system - research, notes, reading, email - not good for a primary.

1 out of 5 eggsNot impressed.

Pros: - Very small, lighweight, good feature set
- Could make a great 'spare' PC for web browsing, email, MP3 player, etc
- Has a VESA bracket, if you can find a monitor with a stand and an unused VESA mount.

Cons: - Intel's GMA3600 support is horrible. Here's what you can expect:
- Works with Windows 7 32-bit
- Doesn't work with: Everything else.
- That means: No Linux accelerated (or high-res) drivers exist as of right now (Intel is working on it, but it's not going very well apparently.) No Windows 7 64-bit drivers. No Windows 8 drivers.
- I can't find a monitor with a VESA mount. Mine all have none, or the stand is ON the VESA mount.

Other Thoughts: It's a great little system, and I like it, but it doesn't do what I need of it. It'll likely collect a lot of dust.

And now for a shout out for some help/confirmation: I can't get Java to run on this thing at all. Crashes on launch, every time, with Win7 x86, Win7 x64, JRE6, JRE7, fresh installs, fully updated installs, all drivers, always c0000005 error - am I crazy? Can someone else confirm Java runs on it? PLEASE?

Manufacturer Response:

You are correct. There is no Win7 64bit driver for GMA 3600 series. This unit also does not support Winxp as well. As for the Java issue, we do have newer BIOS that can fix it. If anyone needs this BIOS please call us at 714-626-6909 for further assistance or submit your email to the link below. Our hours of operation are from 830am to 530pm PST, Monday through Friday (excluding public holidays).

Best regards,
Barebone support team.
