4 out of 5 eggsPretty hot, nice and small

Pros: Small foot print, plenty of connections, and silent without a HDD in it. The build is solid feeling, though the vesa mount seems kinda of cheap in comparison (didn't plan on using it anyway)

Cons: When first setup it was pretty hot, but that is understandable, and didn't ever seem t o venture into that unsafe range of damaging itself, it was just pretty uncomfortable to touch. Under powered, but again, understandably so given it has no fans.

Other Thoughts: This machine is not meant to be running a full Windows environment, it is much more suited for lighter OS"s such as many distro's of Linux. With that said I wouldn't recommend this to anyone that did not have knowledge, or want a fun box to play around with those operating systems. I personally I will get mine setup as a HTPC, running a stripped down Linux distro, and KODI.

I bought this with a slightly faster than listed stick of RAM. Foxconn lists several working speeds on their website)I would recommend only going to a 4GB stick, because the systems really wont benefit from more before that little CPU just gives up.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Little Nano

Pros: Small and light. I don't know why people are writing about not running Win 7 Pro very well and super high temps. I installed a 4 Gig stick of G.Skill DDR3 1066 ram and a 500 Gig Seagate Momentus XT drive and Win 7 Pro 64 Bit. It fires right up and runs well. Installed Print Artist Platinum for the lady I built this for and it runs great. She already made a bunch of stuff. Core Temp reports the CPU is running at about 60 deg cent which will not kill anything from overheating.

Cons: That I didn't buy two more of these on the Shell Shocker deal.

Other Thoughts: It is best to use it with the stand that comes with it to give it adequate air flow. It pulls cool air from the bottom and hot air exits out the top plus aluminum conducts heat really well and that's what this is made of. I'm completely satisfied with this. I think if this goes on sale again I will use the next one to do a HTPC for the bedroom or maybe I won't wait and pay the extra cash not on sale.

1 out of 5 eggsThis item is garbage - don't waste your money

Pros: Small

Cons: After running for less than one year (I owned it for a tad before hooking it up) it stopped working. Researched and saw MANY have had the same experience. This box runs FAR too hot and burns itself up, I believe.

Other Thoughts: They should take care of customers that purchased their garbage that didn't even run for one year before flaking out (starts with display issues and gets to the point where you can't get anything to display....)

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused, since it's within warranty period, we will be more than happy to help you troubleshoot the unit and if necessary, replace it with another unit.

This unit is a fanless design, the aluminum casing is used to dissipate heat and this unit "must" be installed with the included stand, so the hot casing are by design.

please call us at your earliest convenience at 714-988-9386 for faster assistance or submit your email to the link below (it is usually replied within 24 hours). Our hours of operation are from 830am to 530pm PST, Monday through Friday (excluding public holidays).

4 out of 5 eggsRuns Debian Wheezy

Pros: When I did my original installation back in January 2014, the installer went through the debian net installer with only two minor issues.

Cons: The two minor issues were: WiFi and wired NIC's were not detected and enabled within the base Debian installation. I downloaded two additional files to a USB stick and offered them during installation:
firmware-iwlwifi_0.36+wheezy.1_all.deb
firmware-realtek_0.36+wheezy.1_all.deb
and networking worked after installation was complete.

Other Thoughts: Unit gets too hot when not placed vertically. Could fry eggs. I use mine on the included stand so the vent can adequately dissipate heat and so far no issues. I shut mine off when I'm not home so pets don't potentially knock it over and burn the place down.

5 out of 5 eggsUbiquiti Unifi Controller

Pros: This unit made the PERFECT solution to a specific need. We used this with a 32GB SSD and 4GB memory to server as a controller for an enterprise wireless deployment.

-Installed Ubuntu Server 14.04
-Installed Ubiquiti Unifi controller software

Unit runs fast and stable with no issues.

Cons: Maybe the only con is it does get warm (almost hot) and needs good ventilation.

Other Thoughts: This unit makes a perfect server for many Linux based deployments.

4 out of 5 eggsMostly good

Pros: -- Quiet
-- Relatively inexpensive
-- DVI & HDMI Output
-- True 1920x1080 resolution
-- Built-in wireless (Intel 2200, for some reason not listed on the spec sheet)
-- Lots of I/O, with the somewhat annoying exception of no CF slot (though a lot of manufacturers seem to have discarded that)

Cons: -- Gets really, really, hot

Other Thoughts: This is not a very powerful machine. 2 logical cores at 1GHz apiece (with a boost up to 1.3GHz) makes this machine suitable for set-top box, kiosk, or lightweight desktop (email or browsing).

However, in the set-top box/ HTPC role it excels. It's quiet; if you run it off an SSD, it'll run completely silently. I've got it running XBMC and Netflix under Windows 8.1-64, and it does so without a problem.

The only complaint I have for the machine in this role: it gets ridiculously hot. Like, north of 130 degrees. The way it's designed, the entire aluminum case acts as a heatsink. The processor is spec'd at 9 watts, but that's still a substantial amount of heat without active cooling.

I'll buy again for the kiosk / HTPC role if it lasts.

4 out of 5 eggsFast and quiet but does not support mSATA

Pros: Fast, quiet, small

Cons: Does not support mSATA despite overview video saying so.

Other Thoughts: In the overview video at 5:17, he mentions that this unit can support an mSATA. It does NOT. FoxConn support has stated this. I also put an mSATA drive in the slot and the BIOS did not recognize it.

Other than that, seems like a great little unit!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: amazing product, plays anything imaginable. not mentioned but it has an MPCIE slot inside also. i used it to put a higher power wireless n 5ghz card in it to get it off of my 2.4ghz range. i have 2 of these configured the same way and i can stream HD and x.264 to both of them at the same time with no issues.

Cons: the remote included in the 'kit' is not that great under linux. it can be made to work, but for my setup a wireless mouse was more practical.

5 out of 5 eggsUbuntu Server with Wordpress

Pros: Low power consumption
small form factor
no noise
low price
Comes with SSD

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I installed Ubuntu Server 12 using a USB flash drive and experienced not one issue getting the software installed and currently have Wordpress up and running on this LAMP all in about 3 hours. Solid performance for what I needed.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent XBMC Front End (OpenELEC)

Pros: -Fanless (Silent, assuming you use a SSD)
-Small Size
-Installed OpenELEC w/o any issues
-*Bundled remote worked right out of the box (under OpenELEC)
-*Bundled SSD works!
-Drivers are supplied on a 4GB USB Drive
-Integrated WiFi, Intel 2200BNHMW (antenna internal 2x2, single band)
-Open Mini-PCIe port

*Promotional Bundle deal

Cons: -Runs warm (not really a surprise)
-Entering BIOS was a bit tricky on the first go around (had to spam DEL as the first few boots there was no splash screen signalling that it was actually booting)
-Internal WiFi antenna ("may" limit range/strength of signal)

Other Thoughts: I wish it had a built in IR Receiver, has what would appear to have a window for the possibility, but the motherboard speaker sits behind it.

Almost thought for some reason it didn't have built in WiFi capabilities till I realized there is no external antenna and I was picking up my WiFi network.

-Will be used as a XBMC Front End device
