1 out of 5 eggsTrust the 1 egg rating

Pros: Small size. light weight. options for how to display the device.

Cons: hot, VERY HOT! drivers don't install. no way to disable UEFI. no external Antenna for wireless device.

Other Thoughts: Maybe it was just this box, but I fought this unit from day one. windows installed very very slowly. I knew there was something wrong at that point. Once windows installed. It was very difficult to keep it running stable. Ran memory tests hard drive tests. they checked out fine. windows would boot 3 maybe 4 times. then nothing but a black screen at windows boot. I thought it may have been driver related. I wiped the drive. reinstalled the OS. I used drivers from the foxconn web site. Same results. I wiped the drive again. reinstalled windows. used drivers from AMD and Realtec. Same issues. I then thought it was the UEFI. No way to disable it. I have no choice at this point but to return the device. I can't spend anymore time on it.

3 out of 5 eggsWIFI issues

Pros: does everything I need.

Cons: WIFI performance is poor. this could be just my PC. I can connect with my laptop and get to the internet with 8-9 Mbits. But when I connect using this devices wifi, I only get 1 Mbit which is causing my HDHomeRun to get poor reception for watching TV..

Other Thoughts: Another reviewer did not have this same problem.

5 out of 5 eggsmakes a nice windows media center

Pros: it is a compact computer which can be hidden behind my 46" TV. This computer runs well like a set-top TV box and DVR. It can handle Windows Media Center that my XBOX 360 is connected to. No video or audio lags.

Cons: I can't think of any right now as I do not have complaints about this computer.

Other Thoughts: Setup is that I have HD Homerun Prime with cable card plugged-in in my basement and all Windows Media Center enabled computers in the house connect to HD Homerun Prime. Get high quality WMC remote control. I like the Foxconn remote control that came with my NanoPC. It is high quality and I wish Newegg would be able to sell these remote controls.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsGood low power system

Pros: We have a number of these in our network. They are great low power desktops for non-power users. I would recommend for areas that access a terminal server, telnet type client, or just basic e-mail and web browsing use. They support 2 monitors at 1900x1200 with no issue.

Cons: They are not super powerful gaming machines. But that's not what we purchased them for.

Other Thoughts: Out of around 150 of these we have only had to claim warranty on 4 of them. All due to the CPU fan failing. Keep in mind if the CPU fan fails it usually knocks out the system board. But for an under 400.00 machine it is still cheaper than buying full size desktops.

1 out of 5 eggsFan loud

Pros: Size

Cons: While running OpenELEC, both 3.2.x and nightlies, the fan on this thing constantly oscillates up and down, loud enough to be annoying in any quiet room. Even not showing any video it oscillates all night long. Enough so that I have to increase the TV volume to compensate and then it stops and the TV is too loud. I have an nt-a3500 and it doesn't seem to have this problem. I've tried the latest BIOS and no dice.

4 out of 5 eggsBIOS Bug

Pros: Has a great integrated GPU.
Adequate CPU for most tasks.
Small and Quiet.
(2x) USB 3 ports.

Newegg RMA'd for replacement quickly.

Cons: Not as easy to open and service as the other brands sold on Newegg.

Mine arrived with an old BIOS version with a known bug when you change a certain setting it stops displaying any video... and I could find no way to physically reset the bios (no jumper).

No Bluetooth that others sometimes include.

Other Thoughts: Its a great deal when they bundle these with a free SSD.

Put 8GB in mine, 4GB should be plenty for most purposes.

I have mine running a few external HDD's and acting as my home networks file server, my TV's media center, a dedicated torrenting box, mumble server and even a small Minecraft server.
The CPU is the bottleneck and only struggles if all its functions that I have it tasked for are being used simultaneously and heavily.

With 4GB of memory and a free SSD, these little barebone systems are perfect for anyone with light desktop needs. Office work, media center, browsing, or even low end gaming are all in its realm of possibility.

1 out of 5 eggsWow, noiseless it is not...part 2

Pros: None

Cons: This is the response from foxconn techical support:

"If you update BIOS (C74F1P03) can not to reduced fan noise.
we recommend you contact your local reseller where and who you bought the barebone from and ask for cpu fan."

So newegg I will need a cpu fan to place inside the nanopc that is already noiseless...

1 out of 5 eggsWow, noiseless it is not...

Pros: It's small, it's "silent" when turned off...

Cons: The foxconn site advertises this as noiseless, which is absolutely ridiculous. This thing 8 feet away is louder than my desktop 2 feet away. I'm running openelec 3.2.2 on it and the fan never slows down. It's absolutely ridiculous that it is this loud, infuriating when I look at their site and it says noiseless. I have to check to make sure it has the latest version of the bios hoping that an update will fix the issue, but I couldn't find a changelog or list of updates in the bios versions listed, so its a stab in the dark.

Other Thoughts: This might be going back to newegg along with the memory purchased for it. If it can't become quieter its just not going to work. Advertising it as noiseless is outright lying and deceptive.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsNice features, but loud fan.

Pros: USB 3.0, Gig Ethernet, and DVI/HDMI output are all great features and make this a neat little machine. I loaded Fedora 19 and all features worked great with no need to download speacil drivers or anything.

Cons: The processor fan is really annoying to me. It seems to have three speeds, low, medium and high. Low is very nice and you hardily hear it. Even menium is pretty quite. But the problem is that all this machine does is alternate between medium and high about every 5 seconds regardless of how you're using the computer. There are no options for controlling the fan speed in the BIOS.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks perfectly with OpenELEC Media Center

Pros: Had no problem opening it using my own screwdriver and the knife tool that it came with. Using OpenELEC it never uses more than 20% of the CPU or 10% of the RAM. Was able to watch 720p video with no tearing or stuttering issues. GPU runs around 70 C while playing media, the same media that caused my Dell laptop to hit 93 C. My friend has the last version on this and after reading the reviews we were a bit nervous about the problems people were expressing. However I experienced none of those.

Cons: Only thing that I would have to say is the lack of an IR receiver.
