4 out of 5 eggsWorth the money

Pros: Cute & tiny form factor; no OS, allowing you to install only what you need; plenty of USB slots; non-slip pad is a thoughtful addition.

Cons: I may upgrade to blu ray drive & wifi.

Other Thoughts: Tried XP & Ubuntu before settling on Windows 7 since the cheapo Kworld TV tuner does not have linux drivers. HD video files look great and run with no problems. Non-HD video files and even HDTV & regular DVDs tend to be slightly dark and pixelated, even with latest drivers. Still working on this issue.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect XBMC/Ubuntu box

Pros: No OS
ION GPU acceleration supported under Linux
HDMI and SPDIF out for sound

Cons: Could be a tad bit quieter, especially the CD
No Linux drivers for GPU/System temp monitoring
Slower boot up than other ION based boxes

Other Thoughts: After a few stops and starts this box has been a stable performer. Running XBMC on top of Ubuntu is easy and works well with any LCD TV. I also have as Acer Revo 3610 and a Zotac Mag HD all hardwired on a gigabit network streaming HD movies and TV shows. In terms of speed, the ASRock supports Adam overclocking but boot time is noticeably slower than the Acer. I would not run Windows on such a box because of the OS overhead but running Linux is much more efficient. You could easily run XBMC or Boxee on this PC without difficulty.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat HTPC

Pros: HDMI, VGA, good memory. I have XBMC installed, and have XP running on it as the OS. The DVD drive runs nicely using the provided drivers.

Cons: Getting resolution on HDMI to run at the correct setting for an HDTV can be problematic at first. Also, getting the HD Audio to be set correctly in XP is frustrating, as the XP drivers install software that provides a second location to set speaker/uadio settings. Can be confusing.

Other Thoughts: I should have ensured that I had at least SP1 for XP before installing the OS, as the 320GB drive has been partitioned to be 128GB or so. Limitation of XP, not the system.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Linux Box

Pros: Very well packaged. Wonderful form factor. Great *real* BIOS with lots of user control. It is a very quiet, low power, and cute box. On the inside, everything is extremely well laid out with impressive cabling and airflow. Includes an HDMI to DVI adapter. NVidia graphics are so much better than non-Ion Atom boards. Seagate laptop hard drive. Gigabit network. Optical SPDIF too!

Cons: Like everyone else says, they should have added at least one front USB port. I don't need it, but it would have been nice to include an I/R receiver on the front, too. I would much prefer a flat black... I don't know why all these companies think we want glossy, show-every-fingerprint-and-scratch-and-dust black.... but when it is clean, it is very showy.

There are two fans inside, and one is very, very, very tiny. I am worried it might fail and be hard to find.

The package deal would have been far more attractive with 4GB of RAM instead of 2.

The included docs are pretty much useless, but that is par for the course.

Other Thoughts: The machine loves Linux. Mandriva 2010.0 64bit loaded perfectly and everything "just worked"- sound, 3D video, network, everything. Even 3D KDE Desktop effects (AKA Compiz) works fine, although not as fluid as a full-powered desktop. Can play fullscreen Tux Racer with a great framerate. Full-screen HD YouTube plays fine.

Hyperthreading is supported so it looks like 4 processors. Seemed to work stable at 1.9Ghz overclocking, until I tried VirtualBox, which would reboot the system! Had to move it down to 1.7Ghz before it was stable under VB.

Overall, it is a great machine and a good value (although they should bump RAM to 4GB to be more competitive).

1 out of 5 eggsDVD Player Sucks

Pros: Nice small unit.

Cons: Don't send a buyer defective junk and then inconvenience them with please send it back. Test it before sending. DVD player broken on arrival. Javier, with no employee number, or extension suggested that I send the whole unit back, instead of the drive. Unfortunate decision for new egg. Service has been great up to this point.

5 out of 5 eggsThis HTPC Rocks!

Pros: Amazing little PC - just great, great high-def output with very little impact on memory, cpu, etc...

Cons: Not "wood" silent - but much more quiet than my PS3.

Other Thoughts: This was a replacement - I was the one "1" ranking review posted earlier. I would delete/ edit it, but can't find where to do it on the website.

5 out of 5 eggsSuprising little box..

Pros: Bought this to replace an aging tower that was purely for web access and VPN access to my job. More than does the job, very adequate for any web surfing and media consumption. Installed Win 7 Pro x32 from a thumb drive, install was shockingly fast. Installed latest drivers from nV and audio drivers from AsRock site, rock stable and well behaved, sleeps and wakes without issue, etc.. No problem running Office 2007, Paint.net, Live apps, Google Talk, etc...

Reasonably quiet (many fan settings in BIOS), came with latest BIOS already flashed (1.60), amazingly low power consumtion and great small footprint.

Cons: No major cons if you go into this purhcase being realistic.

Other Thoughts: This is a great little box if you go into knowing what you are buying. It is not a replacement for your gaming or media ripping machine. But it is an excellent PC for office tasks, media consumption and Internet usage of all sorts. The ION GPU makes a huge difference and I have found very few scenarios where I am not completely pleased with this computer. Windows7 is responsive and stable, light mutli-tasking is not a problem, ovearll a overy solid purchase.

4 out of 5 eggsNice little HTPC.

Pros: Good all-in-one solution. Fairly beefy little cpu and video combo. Was playing WMV1080p in under an hour of opening the box. Simple Win7 install.

Cons: Doesn't use a normal power cord. Not a big deal, but it would be bad to lose the proprietary cord.

Other Thoughts: Put this together for a co-worker to replace her ancient Compaq that was running Windows ME! She just bought a 42" LCD TV and was amazed that she could hook a PC up to it. I got her this ASRock, and wireless KB/M combo, and a 6' HDMI cable for under $400. She's in heaven! I'm sure it's not really good for any gaming, but this lady is over 50 and just wants something easy that works for looking at her pictures and watching a few HD movies or playing music.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Small, (mostly) silent. Lots of USB ports, integrated gigabit ethernet, HDMI out.

Cons: It might just be my setup, but it lagged attempting to output bluray quality video to an HDTV via HDMI while running Windows 7. Installed XP, runs without any problems.

Other Thoughts: Motherboard supports up to 4GB of RAM, but has only two slots... you must rebuy all RAM to upgrade.

Very happy with this!

5 out of 5 eggsCool, Quiet with Fedora 11 - The Good & Bad

Pros: I bought this device for a few reasons.
One I wanted a small powerful device and the recent addition of a dual core Atom chip was the answer.

I needed something that used little power and ran cool and is very quiet. This device does all of the above in a very small and compact setup.

The size is amazing and the number of USB ports combined with an HDMI along with VGA and audio is very nice. It comes with an onboard NIC card which was a great idea.

Cons: No option to add any onboard cards such as a secondary NIC, eSATA etc.

I need a second NIC on this box so I have a USB 10/100 NIC coming in the mail. Hopefully it will work well on this system running Fedora 11.

You will need USB mouse/keyboard unless you have USB/PS2 converters. Just FYI if you don't have these available.

Only comes with 2GBs of RAM. This is to keep the price down I know, but an option for 4GB would be recommended.

Add eSATA port
Add 2 front Panel USB ports

Other Thoughts: Overall great small box.

I will probably get another one to replace another system I have running that I need up 24/7.
The small size combined with low heat output device which is virtually silent will enable me to save money over the long run. I'll also be able to downsize from (2) 1500VA UPS to (1).

If you use it for 1080p video and install the correct drivers you should have no issues playing them as almost all processing is offloaded to the NVIDIA ION chip and not the ATOM CPU.

I have a Popcorn hour or else I'd use it for that.

Love this box!
