5 out of 5 eggs*correction to previous review

Pros: @ASRock: Thanks for the fast response and good call on updating the bios. I am attributing the fix to this, as nothing worked correctly w/ or w/o correct drivers before this. Current BIOS = v1.10 (off ASRock site). I'm restoring to 5 eggs :D

Current settings
Intel driver v15.
RefreshRate>60p Hz
Power>Max Performance

Cons: @newegg: No ability to edit my previous review?
@intel: your graphics dialog needs some work... its slow and buggy and while most settings are ok, options to adjust left/right display alignment isn't uber intuitive.
@lg: why the hell can't I choose "Just Scan" for my PC input?on HDMI2? (Label=PC,AspectRatio=16:9--won't let me do "Just Scan" on this input anymore)

Other Thoughts: Update: I *was* able to get the drivers working under Win7 x64 w/ the LG TV. @time of last post, I had experimented with the various versions of the Intel driver (CD version from 2011 vs. 2/22/12 and 4/3/12 versions from Intel's site).

Originally a fair bit of right side of the screen was cut off (could see clock but not desktop button). In intel settings, I did Display>General>Scaling>Custom>Hor.Scaling=45%, and this helped a bit as now I am only missing ~1/4" on the right (I see ~1/2 of desktop button).
It even keep the scale after I uninstalled the drivers (note: when i reinstalled drivers, this is now @ 100% but screen position didn't reset). Haven't seen any options on TV/Windows/Driver options to fix this part any better than it is. But after updating, BIOS I am able to use current driver, v15. (4/3/12), and my display looks pretty good again so at least there's that.

3 out of 5 eggsIntel HD 3000... very frustrating!

Pros: Good box - quick, quiet, seems sturdy enough (although i haven't really put that to the test lol).

Cons: The Intel HD Grapics 3000 card has REALLY given me a headache on this thing... I am taking off 2 eggs SOLELY for ASRock's choice in using this graphics card. My primary intent with an HTPC is to be able to use a PC via HDMI. Intel's card fails miserably in this respect.

I am running multi-boot w/ Win 7 (x64), Ubuntu, and Linux Mint...

On the Win7 x64 side, this worked well for awhile with my Panasonic, but when I upgraded to a newer LG TV, I only get "No Signal" when the Intel driver is installed (current version from their site OR version from cd). Uninstalling fixes the video, but no audio.

On the Linux side of the equation, video works with NO audio (Same on both TV's). Although, some of the troubleshooting I was doing made it *might* be possible if I invest several hours/days/weeks into some very technical troubleshooting... not sure on the LG now though.

I would HIGHLY recommend looking at another box that doesn't use Intel for graphics or else simply building your o

5 out of 5 eggsSlick HTPC/Server

Pros: I have only owned this PC for about a week, but it has met all of my expectations so far. I upgraded the RAM to 8GB and installed Windows 7 Pro 64-bit without any issues. It boots fast and runs great. It's fairly quiet too -- almost inaudible when the fans are low. The BIOS is easy to navigate and the aesthetically pleasing -- one of the best I've seen.

Cons: I can't think of any real cons, but here are some things that would have been nice:
- I ordered mine with an 8GB RAM kit; it would've been nice if there was a model that shipped without RAM and perhaps a hard drive so users could choose their own.
- There are no PCI/PCI-X slots, so I have to buy a USB TV tuner.

Other Thoughts: My main concern is long-term reliability. I'm using this PC as an occasional HTPC and primarily as a server, meaning it stays on 24/7. Laptops generally aren't designed for that, so I'm hoping the hardware will hold up.

My 252B idles a little higher than I'd like at 50C CPU and 50C motherboard. I have read reviews with lower temps, but mine are probably higher because the PC is on a shelf in a closet, with an 8 port gigabit switch on top, sitting by a warm router.

I haven't tested USB 3.0 yet, but that was one of the key selling points for me. I just ordered a 4TB USB 3.0 drive, so hopefully it's fast.

One more thing -- for anyone doing a RAM or hard drive upgrade, be careful when reinstalling the Blu-ray drive. It looks like it might be easy to scratch the front of the drive on the inside of the case if you aren't lined up with the opening when inserting the drive. It can be difficult to get the drive horizontal again due to the SATA cables pushing against the motherboard.
