3 out of 5 eggsFast but USB Problems

This review is from: GIGABYTE BRIX GB-BXi7-4770R 2 x 204Pin Intel Iris Pro graphics 5200 Mini-PC Barebone

Pros: Small form factor, well built.

We use 8GB RAM, 120GB SSD
External USB 3.0 Hard Drive

Cons: The unit will not boot with ANY Drive over 2TB attached via USB externally, it simply hangs at the POST screen.

It works with a 2TB drive but with a 3TB WD or 4TB Seagate, it simply hangs at the POST screen.

This is unacceptable.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Machine for small footprint

This review is from: GIGABYTE BRIX GB-BXi7-4770R 2 x 204Pin Intel Iris Pro graphics 5200 Mini-PC Barebone

Pros: Great Performance.
Good Build Quality
Easy Setup
Price point.

Cons: No WIFI drivers for RHE/CentOS
Fan Noise. This machine isn't used for gaming but i wanted to see what kind of performance the Iris Pro would have. I fired up some older games like Team Fortress 2. Runs fine but the fan did kick up to high and it was kind of annoying. Cant imagine the one with the Nvidia gpu in in.

Other Thoughts: I've had this machine for over a month and its running great. Running a 250GB M-sata and a 500GB Sata2 drive. 16GB RAM. I put CentOS 7 on this box. Now i know this isn't a typical desktop setup, but its what i use for work mostly so i decided to try and use it for a desktop machine. The only issue i've had so far is the WIFI drivers. Doesn't seem to be any that work for RHE/CentOs. But im using ethernet so its not an issue right now. The bluetooth works fine though.

5 out of 5 eggsSmall and Powerful

This review is from: GIGABYTE BRIX GB-BXi7-4770R 2 x 204Pin Intel Iris Pro graphics 5200 Mini-PC Barebone

Pros: This is my second Brix and I like it for being quiet and fast. Easy to set up and with Windows10 on a thumb drive it only took about 25 minutes to install.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsThe Little Brix That Can

This review is from: GIGABYTE BRIX GB-BXi7-4770R 2 x 204Pin Intel Iris Pro graphics 5200 Mini-PC Barebone

Pros: Powerful, Small, Compact, Great Linux Support, Windows 10 Support

Cons: Can get warm, Only one NIC

Other Thoughts: Don't let the size mislead you. The unit has no problem driving my Asus PB279Q display at it's max 3840 x 2160 4k resolution through the miniDP port in addition to a secondary 21" monitor through the HDMI.

I added 16GB of GSkill DDR3-l 1866 memory, a Samsung 850 Pro 1TB SSD, a Samsung 850 1TB mSATA drive memory and setup was a breeze out of the box under Arch Linux with Gnome. 1080p and video and Netflix runs butter smooth and the system boots in seconds. I am also running a dual boot with Windows 10 PRO on the mSATA drive and everything works out of the box as well.

Although it the case can get warm at times, I find it hard to hear the fan under the AC fan and it's quieter than the tower PC this unit replaced.

Overall the GB-BXi7-4770R is a great option for anyone wanting a powerful PC for everyday tasks in a small form factor.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

This review is from: GIGABYTE BRIX GB-BXi7-4770R 2 x 204Pin Intel Iris Pro graphics 5200 Mini-PC Barebone

Pros: Very small formfactor and powerful as a big PC. Runs a little hot sometimes and fan gets noisy, but its understandable.

Cons: Loud fan sometimes

4 out of 5 eggsFan Question

This review is from: GIGABYTE BRIX GB-BXi7-4770R 2 x 204Pin Intel Iris Pro graphics 5200 Mini-PC Barebone

Pros: Powerful

Cons: Fan Noise

Other Thoughts: One guy on here said he placed the MB inside a new box with a better fan and it reduces the noise level significantly. Can anyone PM me a proper small case/housing with optimal cooling system in order to make this build?

Trying to make music with this and not digging fan noise.

4 out of 5 eggsA big computer in a little box

This review is from: GIGABYTE BRIX GB-BXi7-4770R 2 x 204Pin Intel Iris Pro graphics 5200 Mini-PC Barebone

Pros: Small Form Factor
Fast Computing Speed
Ease of configuration
Build options
Quality

Cons: Fan is a little noisy when running at peak.
Fan not large enough to keep system cool under heavy loads.
Heat buildup can corrupt data on MSata drives.
USB 3 ports drop/disconnect external USB 2 drives when using some USB keyboards and mice(USB powered hub needed for keyboard and mouse.)

Other Thoughts: System runs great after I repackaged the MB in a new box with a better fan. Runs so quiet now I sometimes wonder if it is still running or powered on. I will have to do this with my other 5 BRIX units too.

4 out of 5 eggsGood for Hackintosh

This review is from: GIGABYTE BRIX GB-BXi7-4770R 2 x 204Pin Intel Iris Pro graphics 5200 Mini-PC Barebone

Pros: Easy to configure, powerful cpu, and performance.

Cons: Heatsink fan noisy, bad audio ALC269 chip that nobody uses, could use a quieter fan. More USB ports.

Other Thoughts: Was easy to build a Hackintosh OSX Yosemite running on this, the only problem is the Audio is unsupported and requires some extra hacking to work and the HDMI audio is also difficult under OSX. Aside from these issues I have a much faster and higher performance Mac Mini clone. It is as fast as the fastest Core i7 iMac.

4 out of 5 eggsFast and small, but noisy.

This review is from: GIGABYTE BRIX GB-BXi7-4770R 2 x 204Pin Intel Iris Pro graphics 5200 Mini-PC Barebone

Pros: Fast. I'm using this machine as a Plex transcode box. Depending on the content the transcode speed has been up to 25 X, which is great.

Small. It's coffee mug size.

Cons: Loud. In normal usage, it's fine, but the second that you start to tax the CPU you hear the tiny fan spin up to VERY audible levels. This thing sits inside of my media cabinet, which may not have the best ventilation, but even when moved outside it's loud. Next time, make something three inches taller and include a better cooling system.

Other Thoughts: This is great if you need something small with a lot of CPU horsepower, but can also hide it in a basement somewhere...

5 out of 5 eggsBRIX GB-BXi7 4770R is GREAT

This review is from: GIGABYTE BRIX GB-BXi7-4770R 2 x 204Pin Intel Iris Pro graphics 5200 Mini-PC Barebone

Pros: Size
Form Factor
Speed
Ease of configuration
Build options
Quality
Fit-and-finish
Reliability
Functionality

Cons: One HDMI port

Other Thoughts: We have deployed 5 of these so far and they are our new corporate standard PC. They build quality is excellent, the performance is FANTASTIC and the ease of building and deploying them is a real plus. We have not had one moment's problem from any of the units other than an issue with one of the mini-display ports on one of the units that I'm pretty sure was the cheap mini-displayport to HDMI cable we used. I wish there were just two HDMI ports, but I understand there are limits to how many ports they can provide and some people like mini displayport. I can't say enough about the flexibility and ease of building these out. We have used the Core i5 model as well. We put 16GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD in them, burn our standard BRIX image (Win 8, Office 365, BRIX drivers) on them, and they are OFF TO THE RACES. With the VESA mount, we put them on the back of an ASUS 23.6" monitor and include a Logitech 720 wireless keyboard and mouse and our users get a GREAT PC, and we get a reasonable cost and ease of support. Problem with a PC - pop it off the back of the monitor, pop on the spare we keep, and boot up. Problem solved.
