5 out of 5 eggsGreat HTPC

This review is from: GIGABYTE GB-BXi3H-5010 (rev. 1.0) 2 x 204Pin SO-DIMM Intel HD Graphics 5500 Black BRIX / Ultra Compact PC kit

Pros: Easy setup
Inexpensive
Small footprint.
Very quiet (with SSD)

Cons: Documentation could be a bit better.
Overall, no complaints.

Other Thoughts: Had this about 6 months... everything running ok, so far.
Make sure you use the recommended RAM!!!
Have mine set up as a HTPC, streaming HD video.
Installed Windows 8.1, XBMC (Kodi), using bluetooth connection to my phone as remote.
Works great in this scenario.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat product and very easy to assemble

This review is from: GIGABYTE GB-BXi3H-5010 (rev. 1.0) 2 x 204Pin SO-DIMM Intel HD Graphics 5500 Black BRIX / Ultra Compact PC kit

Pros: small enough to hide behind the monitor yet powerful enough to perform as well as any desktop

Cons: I have been using it as my main desktop;
had one little issue-
had a hard time getting to tech support -long wait; but solved the problem immediately - once I got a technician

Other Thoughts: highly recommend it.
I bought several since my first purchase

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate On Brix

This review is from: GIGABYTE GB-BXi3H-5010 (rev. 1.0) 2 x 204Pin SO-DIMM Intel HD Graphics 5500 Black BRIX / Ultra Compact PC kit

Pros: Simple, Reliable

Cons: Under-powered for more demanding applications

Other Thoughts: I have worked both with the NUC and the BRIX from Gigabyte and, with this gen (based on Intel's 5th gen procs), I prefer the NUCs from Intel over the BRIX for a number of reasons.

After putting each together I noticed the construction and layout of the internal components of the NUC is done a little smarter than the BRIX. The hard drive cage on the cap of the NUC has a really nice, slide-in, so the hard drive just snaps into place like a hot swap external drive. The brix on the other hand uses a proprietary SATA connector which feels flimsy and must be jimmied into place.

BRIX of the latest gen use MSATA versus the more recent M.2 standard that the NUCs use. Its not a big deal either way but I prefer to use the latest standard.

The big thing for me is the CPUs that these units use. If you look at the BRIX line compared to the NUCs, you will notice that similar systems use slightly different model CPUs. Notice that an i7 brix will use a different CPU than an i7 NUC. The NUC's i7 is actually a better proc than the one BRIX uses. Its not a huge difference, but when you compare both units and them being a similar price point, the NUC wins out. Its like Intel saved the better procs for their own units :)

5 out of 5 eggsNice Box

This review is from: GIGABYTE GB-BXi3H-5010 (rev. 1.0) 2 x 204Pin SO-DIMM Intel HD Graphics 5500 Black BRIX / Ultra Compact PC kit

Pros: Small, Powerful, Simple

Cons: Underpowered for media streaming.

Other Thoughts: This is a great unit for less processor-intensive applications. Was a great file server but fell short as a media server. Encoding and streaming high def video works, but not well enough to be happy with the performance. Go with an i5 or i7 if you wanna have a mini video streaming box.
