5 out of 5 eggsGreat PC for kids

This review is from: GIGABYTE GB-BXBT-1900 (rev. 1.0) 1 x 204Pin SO-DIMM Intel HD Graphics Black Mini / Booksize Barebone System

Pros: - This was easy to setup and install Windows 10 with no issues.
- Works great for my kids, even good for playing Minecraft.
- It's fast for the price.
- Was easy to mount to the back of the monitor, saves space.

Cons: - None.

Other Thoughts: I would highly recommend this for casual use. I wouldn't use this for video editing or high-end gaming but it's great for everyday computing needs.

5 out of 5 eggsRunning Netflix and SageTV Flawlessly

This review is from: GIGABYTE GB-BXBT-1900 (rev. 1.0) 1 x 204Pin SO-DIMM Intel HD Graphics Black Mini / Booksize Barebone System

Pros: Installed Windows 10 on this and runs like a champ. Low Power, small. I'm using this to run a 1080p 50" TV and SageTV (google it) runs flawlessly on it. Not even a hiccup. Netflix too. Installed a 120GB SSD and 8G memory. Unit only uses around 2-3 GB total for what I'm running. Maybe I'll see how it can handle as a Minecraft server too.

Cons: So far one week in... hope it lasts. Using wireless keyboard and mouse.

Other Thoughts: Definitely recommend. And so tiny! Looks good in my entertainment center but I could also mount this right to the back of the TV if I wanted.

2 out of 5 eggsMassve issues with Linux Kernals 3.17 - Current.

This review is from: GIGABYTE GB-BXBT-1900 (rev. 1.0) 1 x 204Pin SO-DIMM Intel HD Graphics Black Mini / Booksize Barebone System

Pros: smaller in size than expected
easy to put together (relatively)
boots straight to usb (no bios necessary)
comes with newest F7 bios

Cons: Minor - must install sata cable to drive before placing in cage - not in instructions but should be.
Minor - sata cable presses on case side causing slight bulge - not significant

MAJOR: Major issues with complete system hangs/lockups under linux kernels. pre 4.0 kernels dont have gpu acceleration which this cpu requires. 4.0 Kernels freeze/hang random. 4.2 + kernels hang/freeze random. Only 4.1 kernel is somewhat problem free, but this is caveat emptor. this box is low cost so spending 50-70% more on an OS is rediculous. Getting ready to go through RMA process if i cant get a working kernel. Intel was made aware 2 YEARS ago about this issue with bay trail chips... but since LInux doesnt line their pockets with cash - a la Microsoft.... well here we are 2 years later. The build would have gotten 4 stars if it was usable without an os for build quality but unfortunately its ability to run $less OS is necessary for it to be a good price.

Other Thoughts: Im so fed up with Microsoft ruining the market for everyone else. Gigabyte - great product but useless as a low cost box without ability to run a linux kernel.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: GIGABYTE GB-BXBT-1900 (rev. 1.0) 1 x 204Pin SO-DIMM Intel HD Graphics Black Mini / Booksize Barebone System

Pros: Package
-comes with several wall-power adapters
-mountable options

Small and Compact
-After setup, things ran smoothly. Not intrusive and super dead quiet(fanless).

Quick hardware instillation
-Everything was easy to open and locate.

Easy OS installation
-boots into usb without any issues
-installation was quick and clean

Performance
-idle 1.3ghz
-boosted to 2.4ghz, under load
-quad-core goodness

Cons: Set up
-Instructions were brief, but w/e.

video output
-wish it came with 2 hdmi, instead of 1 hdmi + 1vga, but w/e.

Drivers
-no ubuntu divers for wifi & bluetooth. (get a wired connection!)

Ubuntu pulseaudio
-Encountered an issue with pulseaudio. It rarely stutters videos and songs(online/offline)
-fix it by editing:
/etc/pulse/daemon.conf
change
; realtime-scheduling = yes
to
realtime-scheduling = no

Other Thoughts: My components:

SanDisk Internal SSD 240GB 2.5-Inch SDSSDA-240G-G25

G.SKILL 8GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3L 1333 (PC3L 10600) Laptop Memory Model F3-1333C9S-8GSL

Total cost for the entire build: $200(*mostly holiday sales)

Operating System: Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS

Dual monitors and wired internet connection.

First time building, took me about an 30 mins to put everything together and get an OS up and running.

-connect SATA cable to your drive *before* screwing your drive into the panel.
-the picture in the quick start guild shows the RAM starting at a 45 degree angle. Just push it down until it clicks.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat micro PC

This review is from: GIGABYTE GB-BXBT-1900 (rev. 1.0) 1 x 204Pin SO-DIMM Intel HD Graphics Black Mini / Booksize Barebone System

Pros: Quad core processor, tiny size, 1 USB 3.0, 2 USB 2.0, VGA, HDMI, good sound. Coupled with 8 gig RAM, a washable keyboard, wireless mouse and monitor makes a great kitchen computer.
A great deal at the price.

Cons: Be aware that the Realtek wireless (RTL8723BE) requires conf file editing to function well in Ubuntu or Mint.
Create /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8723be.conf
Add a line that reads:
options rtl8723be fwlps=N swlps=N swenc=Y disable_watchdog=Y
Save it.
It will behave correctly after rebooting.

Other Thoughts: The wifi issue is not a device problem but a software configuration problem in Linux.
You're welcome.

5 out of 5 eggsgood so far

This review is from: GIGABYTE GB-BXBT-1900 (rev. 1.0) 1 x 204Pin SO-DIMM Intel HD Graphics Black Mini / Booksize Barebone System

Pros: Easy setup.
Instructions are simple but sufficient.
Performance is better than expected.
I thought it might struggle with Plex, but cpu usage is under 50%
Small.
Easily tuck this behind my TV without my son noticing it.

Cons: None so far. Seems to be a great little device. Granted I have only had it a few hours at this point it seems like a great purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsImpressive little box

This review is from: GIGABYTE GB-BXBT-1900 (rev. 1.0) 1 x 204Pin SO-DIMM Intel HD Graphics Black Mini / Booksize Barebone System

Pros: I use it as a htpc. I've had both Debian 8 and Windows 7 installed on this, both worked great. For less than 200 dollars I was able to get a little PC that is able to stream anything I throw at it. It also handles steam in home streaming great. No complaints.

Cons: Not a lot of USB ports, but you know that going into it.

The wifi card lost connection occasionally when I first got it. I moved the router and that fixed it. The wifi card works, just has less range than I would have otherwise liked. Not removing an egg for this.

Other Thoughts: The drivers come on a CD, so I had to use another computer to transfer everything to a USB drive. Kind of annoying, but for the 100 dollars I spent on this while it was on sale, this thing is awesome.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little Barebones PC!

This review is from: GIGABYTE GB-BXBT-1900 (rev. 1.0) 1 x 204Pin SO-DIMM Intel HD Graphics Black Mini / Booksize Barebone System

Pros: Small- can fit in your hand. Runs Cool. Runs Windows 7 Fine.Installed windows 7 64bit from a USB DVD drive. Make sure to select proper OS in Bios. Only have tried the built in wifi, not the bluetooth, but it works fine. Am using 4GB of crucial Cdr3 laptop memory and a 120GB Adata SSD. Win 7 Experience index showing ratings in mid 5's to 7's, except for Aero graphics index which is a 1. Hooking up the SATA drive was pretty easy. The little wallwart powersupply is also running cool. There is a small fan that must be cooling the processor which you can hear if you get close to it, but it is very quiet. No problems after the 1st week.

Cons: Maybe that it has a small fan in it which will most likely get noisy or stop working at some point

Other Thoughts: Am running it 24/7 to connect with my wireless weather station, which in turn connects via wifi to Weatherunderground. Am very impressed so far. For less than 200 bucks you can have a nice little working little pc !

5 out of 5 eggsCool little box

This review is from: GIGABYTE GB-BXBT-1900 (rev. 1.0) 1 x 204Pin SO-DIMM Intel HD Graphics Black Mini / Booksize Barebone System

Pros: Nice little box. I had F6 BIOS version with no problems installing Win10 from USB. I used a 500GB 5400RPM SSHD from Seagate and 8GB memory stick. It cold boots in about 20-25sec.

I can stream smoothly Netflix from either Wifi or Gigabit ethernet port without dropping any frames or audio glitching.

BlueTooth is only 4.0 but it worked without any problems.
During install Win10 had enough smarts to connect via WiFi to my network and pull all of the drivers.
Audio worked fine via 3.5mm headphone jack or through the HDMI port.

Cons: It would be really, really nice if it had an eSATA port and two
more USB ports.

Max supported graphics resolution is little poor.

Other Thoughts: From my research on the Web; Win10 runs better than Win7/8 on these type of boxes. I was little worried when I saw it was quad core Celerion but it runs continuously at 2.4GHz.

After couple of boots for the SSHD to adapt it works well.

By all means, buy max support memory (8GB) on this box.

I'm pleased with the purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsJ1900 CPU Is A Winner!

This review is from: GIGABYTE GB-BXBT-1900 (rev. 1.0) 1 x 204Pin SO-DIMM Intel HD Graphics Black Mini / Booksize Barebone System

Pros: Intel Celeron J1900 is a very good low power quad-core cpu. It handles all everyday computer tasks well while drawing only 4 to 6 watts of power (max. power consumption is 10 watts which is rarely needed). We use it in a little home theater PC we built. See "Other thoughts" below.

Cons: Not a con really but remember to use low voltage memory (1.35v) and , since RAM is inexpensive these days, go ahead and get an 8GB stick for best results.

Other Thoughts: About a year ago we bought an ASRock Q1900 motherboard which has a Celeron J1900 embedded on the board. It has a heatsink but no fan, and it runs about 42 deg. C. in a mid-tower case with a single 120mm exhaust fan (no intake fan). The mid-tower case has plenty of room for our old Intel 80GB SSD running Windows 8.1 with Media Center. Although not quite as quickly responsive as our Core i5 PC, the J1900 handles home theater and all basic computer tasks easily. The J1900 cpu also includes Intel Quick-Sync feature which is great for editing video and transcoding/converting video to different formats. I edited several GBs of 1080p video from our videocam and the results were fine. For this type of job it's faster than i expected. And it's very efficient for converting saved video so they will play on your phone or tablet, etc.

One other suggestion for home theater use. An SSHD (solid state hybrid drive) is a good option here since you can only fit one laptop size drive inside the Gigabyte box. You may wish to try a 1TB SSHD. They come with an 8GB SSD included which makes Windows, programs, and Media Center quick and snappy, while the regular 1TB hard drive gives you plenty of storage space for everything. Either that or go whole hog and buy a 1TB SSD !!
