1 out of 5 eggsFailed product? (Waiting for a comment from Gigabyte)

Pros: I LOVE this item except for one thing (see Cons)

Cons: Yes, it's noisy. I don't care.
NONE of the three we have on hand can pass burnintest (by Passmark). Period.
We can't sell a computer that has not passed this test. I am awaiting comment from Gigabyte, but unless fixed, I will be returning all units, including four still sealed units at our other store. 7 units in total, Gigabyte. What say you?

Other Thoughts: Can not recommend. Would like to.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Linux Box

Pros: Cheap , small , powerful (enough).
Low power consumption.
Runs Linux Mint Cinnamon , KDE , Ubuntu , Kubuntu etc. VERY well.
GREAT media computer.
Mounts behind monitor with included VESA mount.
VERY easy to put together and install OS .

Cons: The turbo mode is useless.
With that enabled , fans rev way up , and machine overheats.
*Had to disable that in BIOS (which is simple)*

Other Thoughts: I'd recommend this for home and office use.
Really works well as a simple home media PC and Internet browser (Youtube , Netflix , VLC etc. work great).
Easily mounts and hides behind a monitor.
I put this together with 8GB of RAM (G-Skill Model F3-1600C9D-8GRSL)
and a 240GB SSD (Silicon Power SP240GBSS3S60S25).
SCEPTRE E248W-1920 Black 24" Monitor with HDMI , and an HDMI cable.
Great little setup.
Boots very fast in 15 seconds , and Linux Mint KDE 64-bit is very snappy.

3 out of 5 eggsSolid construction, good performance... until it died in 5 months

Pros: I ordered this PC, along with a Samsung mSATA SSD and 16GB memory, from Newegg back in October 2015. I was pleased by the apparent solid build quality and tiny footprint. It ran Win 7 Pro (later Win 10 Pro), Office applications, etc. fast and smoothly. I did some DVD mastering on it as well and it handled that task with no problem. Everything was great until one morning when it flat out died.

Cons: With less than 5 months of light duty in a well ventilated area, the machine flat out stopped working. The power button will illuminate and the fans spin up, but it will not generate any output of any kind -- not even the BIOS boot text. The power button then becomes inoperative and the only way to spin down the fans and shut the machine off is to pull the power plug. I've double checked the components and everything is snug and properly connected.

Other Thoughts: Before buying this machine I took a close look at the reviews and followed everyone's tips to ensure a smooth setup. I was 100% satisfied with my purchase up until the moment the system died.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed after 6 months of use

Pros: Small, compact

Cons: Loud, Failed on me in 6 months. Just randomly shut off one day while watching Netflix.
Never could turn it back on.. Seems like it overheated and fried itself. Also poor cooling design by Gigabyte

5 out of 5 eggsGreat SFF PC

Pros: Cheap, Quite (For AMD), Pretty powerful.

Cons: Stock thermal paste is junk, came with one of the fans un-plugged from the MOBO.

Other Thoughts: Like most of the other reviews, the stock thermal paste is junk and the fans rev up and they are loud really LOUD, hitting 98c, I cleaned up the inside, replaced the thermal paste with MX-4, replaced the thermal pad on the GPU, plugged in the unplugged fan connector, and installed a thermal pad between the two copper heatsinks, started it up and was idling at 32c with the fans barely audible, under load streaming a ripped blu-ray to a TV, playing a DVD from an external Blu-Ray drive, 3 You-Tubes videos and playing a movie from Plex on the monitor I was hitting 47c, the fans did not change from idle.

Happy now.

240GB Samsung SSD.
8GB Crucial Ram.
Windows 10 Pro.

5 out of 5 eggsHTPC

Pros: Once you figure out the bios settings, this thing is killer. Cheap little HTPC, disable the stupid turbo mode for the processor and the fans never ramp to loud levels. Before I disabled the turbo mode the processor would reach temps of 80 C and the fans would scream. No need for the turbo to process any 1080P video for my TV. Still would like to find an aftermarket heatsink for the apu.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful little box

Pros: Easy to set up. Quiet. Fast. Economical.
User interface is very quick. Fast booting with SSD drive.

Cons: When setting up the unit, leave off the USB 3.0 BIOS setting until after all drivers are installed, especially Windows USB 3.0 driver.
A couple of times, I jumped the gun and could not install files from my USB 3.0 drive. Had to go back and disable USB 3.0.

Other Thoughts: I've set up several of these units for dentist's offices at the chair and it works nice to search and retrieve data and photos from the server.
I've set up a couple of these units for average users and they love it.
Great all around computer.

4 out of 5 eggsToo Much Fun, But Too Much Fan, Too...

Pros: - Quad-core A8 Processor, 35W TDP
- Hudson 2 Chipset
- F3 Bios Installed [a la GB-BXA8G-8890]
- PWM 50mm Fans
- mSATA and SATA III connectors
- two (2) SODIMM slots
- a/b/g/n/ac wireless
- bluetooth 4.0

Cons: - disabled video card taking up space [did someone mention the GB-BXA8G-8890?]
- outrageously lousy heatsink on the APU
- driver support for Bluetooth and USB3.0 rough [saved by Realtek?]

Other Thoughts: I've installed, backed up and reinstalled Win7, Win8 and Win10 upgrade. With a SanDisk X300 256 gB mSATA, a WD Blue 1.0 tB, and 8 gB of Crucial RAM, it hums along quite nicely once topped up. Well, hum is really not the right word. I'm inclined to whine about things, and I really have a lot in common with this box.

On the plus side, I haven't seen it go above 80C. I've gotten pretty good about disassembling and reassembling this box, just to try different thermal compound treatments. To their credit, the original assemblers did a good job the first time, trying TX-4 actually made it about 4 or 5C worse under load, and the AS-7 is maybe 1 or 2C better uncured.

That heatsink on the APU? What a RIDICULOUS load of, well... Yes, it really is. The heatsink on the disabled video card has surface space and fins galore. AFAICT, a real gem. Why not put something like it on the APU??? Here's an idea - pull that out, and put in something that might actually cool the APU, Gigabyte.

Judging by the BIOS, this is current product. rev.1.1 needs a better APU cooler. Heck, MINE needs a better APU cooler. Anybody got any ideas??

2 out of 5 eggsVery Loud - Earplugs Required

Pros: Compact design, dual monitor support and plenty of I/O ports.

Cons: Extremely loud even at idle. Under moderate stress the fan noise is unbearable.

Other Thoughts: Gigabyte makes excellent motherboards. The overall design is very nice but the noise makes the product unusable as a media PC.
Perhaps you could use it as a mini server in its own room where you couldn't hear the roaring fans.

1 out of 5 eggsI really wanted to like the GB-BXA8-5557

Pros: -Form Factor & Size
-Stylish looks
-USB 3.0

Cons: -VERY loud fans! I don't know if the fans would have powered down on a unit that would actually boot up or not though. Speaking of booting up...
-Would not boot up. After pressing the power button, the fans turned on (did I mention how LOUD they were?) and the power button would blink. That is all. No video display was detected. Tried reseating memory in both sockets and reseating SSD connection but this made no difference.
-Quick Setup Guide & Driver Disk but NO other manual or documentation.
-NO online resources to diagnose boot up failure or power button LED error codes. Or to download any other documentation or manual except the minimal Quick Setup Guide. I assume that the blinking power LED might have helped me troubleshoot what the problem was, however, I couldn't find any resource online to find out.

Other Thoughts: Based on the price I got it at (bundled with an 8GB memory stick), I decided to take a chance on the purchase. If it had worked (and assuming the fans would have dropped to a more reasonable decibel range) I probably would have been happy with the purchase. Unfortunately, I'll never know. Definitely returning for a refund.
