Nice, but issues
- Pros: Small, sturdy, easy to figure out, and everything fits nicely.
- Cons: BIOS does not see full 4GB of memory, and cannot find any settings to remedy this as other MOBOs have. All flavors of Ubuntu (6.10, 7.04, both x86 and amd64) had issues until I set "acpi=off noacpi" kernel boot parameters. I'm unsure if this is a BIOS or Ubuntu issue, but an issue none the less.
- Other Thoughts: Overall I'm pretty happy with this box. I am running an Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 with Geil (2 x 2GB) memory kit, and a pair of Seagate 320 GB 7200 RPM drives. It runs very fast, and I'm hopeful BIOS & OS updates will resolve the couple of issues.
Excellent Product!
- Pros: Solid build. Runs pretty quiet. CPU heatsink/fan works well enough to keep my T5600 around 40 deg C usually; 50 deg C is highest I've seen it under load. Disassembly and reassembly of case and components was straightforward. Sleek looks. Nice SATA cables. Plenty of USB ports.
- Cons: No firewire port. Cable routing/placement not so efficient, but there isn't much space in the case, so I guess it is to be expected. A short IDE cable would've been nice for the majority of builders who would use it for the immediately adjacent optical drive. Mobile Core2Duo processors relatively expensive. Didn't see a way to power on PC via PS/2 keyboard in BIOS.
- Other Thoughts: Best book-sized/shaped barebones I've encountered.
- Pros: Excellent compact design, great features and components. Core Duo and Core 2 Duo processors work great with this system! Very quiet!
- Cons: Really wish it had a rackmount kit... maybe te powers that be at Newegg can request this from MSI in the future...
- Other Thoughts: Built one box with Linux and another with XP Pro x64. Both installed flawlessly. Would recommend this product for anyone looking for a small quite system.
