sleek little case
- Pros: The case is probably as small as possible without constricting airflow. The feel is sturdy. The layout is concise. Bonuses such as surround sound high-def card, and a Compact Flash slot on the motherboard for (presumably) a small solid state boot device are unexpected. I'm using it for a Ubuntu home server. This is a very sensibly-designed piece of technology. Makes you want to hoard a few... but you've gotta hope such things will still be around in a few years, but better and cheaper.
- Cons: If you decide to put in a second HDD, you might use a 3.5" swap rack in the 5.25" drive bay like item 51170298 ... which might cause additional warmth, which might necessitate an upgrade on the included fan, e.g. ZALMAN VF1000 2 Ball VGA Cooler (item 51334995). Is that really a con?
A year later, I love it more than ever!
- Pros: Green as Kermit the Frog
Superb construction With mindful setup (see my remarks), runs cool and VERY quietly Hardware well supported by Linux
- Cons: Sometimes labors with video
More Prius than Corvette
- Other Thoughts: I've already reviewed this beauty, but would offer some pointers on its cooling. First, use a Samsung or WD "green" hard drive; besides saving power, they run cooler than laptop units and almost silently. Second, use BIOS version 1.70; this tweaks the fan-speed circuit. Third, IF YOU STAND THE COMPUTER UP, PUT THE VENTED SIDE DOWN! Otherwise convection fights the little fan. If you're obsessive, reseat the heatsink with Arctic Silver 5. To further damp noise (but break your warranty), add 1" strips of Dynamat Extreme to the case sides and disk-drive module. When I watch videos continuously, my fan speeds up at intervals; otherwise I can barely hear it at arm's length. My case never gets warm to the touch. This little gem, running Linux Mint, may well be my favorite computer ever. Wish I could give it 6 eggs.

- Pros: Small, Low Power, and after some mods, quiet and very cool running.
I use it to host a private web server running under Ubuntu 9.0.4
This let me shut down a 300w desktop formerly used for that.
- Cons: With standard size 5.25 CD and 3.5 HDD it proved to run warm enough to keep the fan running at a high speed. This was a bit noisy and the exhaust was a bit warm. The noise of the fan and 3.5" drive in this config was objectionable for a device that lives in a bedroom.
The configuration of the heat sink mounting could be better. The spring loading is uneven and causes the heat sink to tilt, not letting it keep full contact with the dies below. I shimmed one side to promote better contact.
I would recommend that the bottom of the 3.5" drive bay should have had holes for mounting 2.5" drives.
- Other Thoughts: The heating was fixed by replacing both drives with a slimline slot load dvd in a 5.25 carrier and a 2.5 inch laptop drive. There was room in the dvd carrier, with the additions of a few mounting holes, to mount the hdd. With that in place, I drilled the rivets holding the 3.5" drive mount to the over all drive caddy and removed it. That opened the space above the cpu heat-sink. The lower heat signature of the new drives. and the freeing up of airflow over the cpu, brought the speed of the fan down that now it runs at it's lowest speed, with a cool exhaust. The fan now only speeds up when the cpu or graphics chip is under load.
With the config as I now have it there is room for larger separate heat sinks.
