5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: 1. I don't have a sound meter, but this product is extremely quiet, far more silent than anything else in the room.

2. It's small, light, and sturdy enough (plastic casing).

3. The RAM/HDD installs easily, just like in the HD-ID11.

4. The BIOS also allowed me to turn off the LED ring on the top side of the case.

5. Without having to access the BIOS and change settings, it automatically detected and booted from my USB, and it also outputted HDMI video to my TV just fine.

Cons: 1. It was packaged with a Japanese (I believe) power cord. The power brick end is a C5/C6 (Mickey Mouse) connector. If you log a Support Ticket on ZOTACUSA, they'll send you the proper cord. Rather than wait for them (3 days coast-to-coast via USPS), I picked one up at a thrift shop for $2.

2. The ventilation is sufficient, but poorly placed. The intake is on the bottom, and with the unit laying flat, there isn't much room for air flow. If you're using the VESA mount, you'll also have the same issue as the intake is up against the mount, which has no ventilation. The unit comes with protective peel-off plastic/cellophane on both sides. Originally, I decided to keep the top unpeeled and let the unit sit upside down. You'll definitely need to peel the bottom off as it's blocking the intake, or you can cut around it.

3. Unless the BIOS can be updated to do such a thing, this unit can't boot from the card reader. You can boot from USB or HDD.

Other Thoughts: -Intel X25-V 40GB SSD (AHCI isn't set by default)
-1x2GB Elixer RAM (W1066SB2GX)
-XBMCFreak Livecd 9.11 v14 (ION-geared XBMC) w/ some tweaks (cold boots in 25 seconds - 55 seconds via USB). H.264 High@L4.1 works beautifully.
-Original Xbox DVD remote+dongle w/ USB adapter (BIOS has S1/S3, but this remote can't wake anyway)

The only I/Os I've used are USB, HDMI, and LAN. All work as expected. I can't comment on anything else or even the Wi-Fi.

For those who want to know, the power adapter brand/model is Delta Electronics ADP-65JH. I also have a Dell TD230 power adapter and it's identical, including the C5/C6 connector.

For the price and what I use it for, I can't complain. The ventilation can be improved (ideally passive), but I've set mine up in a way that it shouldn't be an issue.

4 out of 5 eggsNot toob bad.

Pros: Very small and handy. Quiet machine and lots of connecting ports of all kinds.

Cons: The BIOS recognize only 1 core, but my Ubuntu 10.04 recognize 4 CPU. no Documentation for the BIOS. I only put 2GB of RAM (DDR3) and is working. I haven't tested it with 4GB.

Other Thoughts: When I turn it on I heard one beep at the BIOS start up. In general works great in with Ubuntu but flash player get frozen with HD videos. After installing the NVidia drivers Compiz works very good and the effects are very smooth. I just have problem with Flash.

5 out of 5 eggsInformation

Pros: Do Not Own - Yet. Disregard Rating.

Cons: Do Not Own - Yet. Disregard Rating.

Other Thoughts: Critical, Need to Know, Information:

The US support site (which Newegg links us to) DOES NOT have any support in terms of downloads for this model of hardware... nor does it support the first gen of this line (there is a ND01 out there). Go to the global site for the proper software.

This is still, supposedly, ION 1 and not ION 1.5 or 2 like the model ending in ID11 supports. As of writing, that model was sold out.

DDR31033 ROM, Dual Channel - Better for power consumption but supposedly not better in terms of performance than DDR2800. Other models with many more reviews run with that ROM. However, the manufacturer tested this model successfully with 4GB of (KVR1333D3S9 x 2). Noticing other brands of mini's fail or do not support the 4GB threshold.

It also should be said that Zotac seems to offer (when registering within 14 days after purchase), a 5 year extended warranty. Found in the global site, under the correct model and warranty page. Not confirmed.

5 out of 5 eggsNice HTPC

Pros: Works great under windows 7 and ubuntu. quiet and compact. fast enough for almost everything.

Cons: Bricked my first one when applying the bios update., tech suport was good but newegg replaced it. Atom and Ion are not quite fast enough to play 720p h.264. Hardware acceleration is not quite good enough, but it's still new and i'm sure there are optimizations that in the pipeline. i hope it will be able to play them in a few months, in the mean time I'm trans-coding to xvid. audio over hdmi was a PITA with Ubuntu but i did get it to work eventually with a lot of goggling.

Other Thoughts: The VESA mount is fantastic, hides right behind my 26 inch lcd.

3 out of 5 eggsNot quite ready for release

Pros: It is small, typing on it now, can barely... barely... hear the one fan. Windows 7 flashed from a flash drive in Fat32 worked like a charm. No need to tell it to boot from USB at all. Had to remove it during installation once data had expanded - kept booting to the USB and stuck in an endless install cycle. The onboard graphics are unreal for on-board graphics.

Cons: It is brand new. Probably two people have purchased this version, me and the other guy on here. Firmware, BIOS, all seem to be from the previous model. Does not support 4GB of memory in 64-bit. Only 3.25, like it was in a 32-bit environment. I am using the exact RAM they tested on the website's approved list. Most importantly, 7 and the BIOS are only recognizing 1 Core! So, other than basic, basic websurfing... this baby is S.L.O.W.! Not going to attempt HD video streaming until I get this fixed.

Other Thoughts: Windows 7 took up 15GB on my SSD with this little guy, and my server(movies) installation of 7 took 23GB on the same model SSD. What gives?

5 out of 5 eggsHappy computer

Pros: It is very small, which it can be space save on desk. The only thing you need to add to it is a 2.5" SATA hard drive and 4GB (2 x 2GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) and of course windows. After that is done and working I was surprise it was very quiet. It has a mount that let you put on the back of the monitor. It also have a stand that you can put on the desk too. I give 5 eggs up this computer.

Cons: NONE to think of.

Other Thoughts: I am going to buy me one too.

3 out of 5 eggsElegant and hot baby

Pros: Small
looks cool (from outside), piano finish, orange lighted ring has breathing effect when sleeping,
it has Atom 330 and Nvidia 9400M, dual Ram slot using DDR3 So-dimm, very easy to assembly.
Has HDMI,plays some HD video, built-in wifi, card reader, esata and some ports you might not use for your life time - -!

Cons: Chose it because I have spare 4G DDR3 so-dimm ram and 500GB HDD but~
as what I was worried, the cooling of this small box.
There is only one fan sitting on a thin heat sink that covers the CPU and GPU...

the temperature of CPU easily reaches 55C without heavy duty. you feel hot when touch the box. but in fact the parts in side are untouchable: Ram extremely hot, , even the Hitachi 2.5" 500GB SATA 5400RPM HDD is 55C! it is the hottest hard drive I've ever touched. maybe I should use a SSD.
I will never mount it to the back of my monitor, the ventilation holes will be blocked by the mounting bracket/ back of monitor!
the mini PCI-E wifi is mounted on the back of the mobo, which makes it virtually impossible to swap/replace with your favorite one (the warranty sticker will be broken if you do so, and if you're not sure you can put it back as it was without break any hidden wire or parts, you'd better leave it as is)

I decide to used it as a backup PC, and a decoration on TV

Other Thoughts: Mushkin DDR3 1066 So-Dimm 2x2GB kit
Hitachi 2.5" 500GB SATA 5400RPM HDD (pull out from brand new 17" Macbook Pro i7 (upgraded to SSD ;-) )
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit (Driver CD has no driver for it, download it!)

2 out of 5 eggsRMA'd

Pros: It's small, the Atom 330 is a dual core hyperthreaded so there are 4 logical cores in theory which provides nice performance, standalone.

4GB of DDR3 1066 capability is excellent, however...

Cons: I recieved it with the wrong power plug, after some time I did manage to get it to work with another plug that I had laying around. After finally getting it to post, the BIOs would not recognize my 4GB of Patriot DDR3 1066 memory, rather only about 3.25 similar to the 32-bit OS issue, so I then went through a BIOs flash using the tools from the ZOTAC website and followed the directions precisely. Doing this I was hoping to get the Memory Remapping feature as it did not come with that on the current BIOs version. After "successful" completion, I restarted the computer only to get a black screen and no BIOs. After speaking with the manufacture about how to manually flash it in attempt to recover it, he told me "Just RMA it, theres nothing you can do".

Other Thoughts: This is definately a risky buy, proceeding with the RMA process now because there are no refunds on this item.

I gave it two eggs simply because I'm really hoping I just got a "bad" one, we'll see.
