1 out of 5 eggsIt reboots by itself

Pros: Small form factor. Somewhat quiet. Efficient.

Cons: It reboots by itself. Sometimes when rebooting by itself, it hangs on the BIOS screen. Sometimes it tells me that it can't boot to my boot drive. I've run Prime95 and Memtest until I was blue in the face. All the components seem to work. It continues to reboot by itself though.

4 out of 5 eggsJust plain awsome!, If you want XBMC Live buy this model!!

Pros: Price, features

Cons: Had a hard time installing xbmc live from a flash drive, it just didn't seem to want to boot from them, I tried 4 different flash drives. So -1 egg for making me dig out an old slimstyle usb dvddrive and burning a cd.

Other Thoughts: Let's see here's the 1,000 character break-down.
4 gigs of ram (left over from upgrading a macbook pro to 8)
60 gig Patriot Pyro Sata3 (I know overkill)

You can install XBMC live, and update every ubuntu package except the 3 grub updates without a hitch. Updating grub will make you lose the cool xbmc boot logo splash.

Stock xbmc live install from power button to xbmc screen = 20 seconds

With a 60 gig ssd, I was able to install PPTP VPN server, Webmin to keep an eye on monitoring the resources and managing pkg's, airplay and shairplay, smbd and a couple others and only use 8gigs of space.

Plays flawlessy even over wifi, HDMI output for sound and video, The most I've ever seen the cpu was at 40% while using it as an airplay target to send a youtube video to it from my iPad.

Google these and you'll be up and running in no time flat:

HOW-TO easily configure wireless network for XBMC Live

HOW-TO:Set up HDMI audio on nVidia GeForce

4 out of 5 eggsVery nice little box!

Pros: Quiet, quick, easy to set up, hdmi + optical audio ports, built in wifi. This is a really nice package, with almost no shortcomings. For the price, and considering its small size, this little machine could be used as a desktop PC just as easily as a HTPC. Really very versatile and good quality device.

Cons: Cannot boot from USB or network, and has no bay for a slim optical drive. This means the ONLY way to install an OS is to use an external optical drive connected to the eSATA port.

Other Thoughts: I will probably buy at least one more of these, and will almost certainly replace my wife's again desktop with one in the near future. Definitely need to give it a few months to be sure this one (which is my main htpc) doesn't die or overheat or anything after it runs 24/7 for a while.

5 out of 5 eggsaddendum to WIN7/XBMC review

Pros: FYI:
DDR3 1333 RAM works
OC to 1100/1650 will not boot - had to use BIOS reset jumper
excellent quality, design, and support
HDMI sound works even when booted disconnected from TV/receiver

Cons: wish it had an i5 or i7 CPU option
on/off from IR remote would be cool

Other Thoughts: ZBOXHD ND22 is a nearly perfect HTPC, except for (CPU dependent) games (known issue, CPU is too slow). I was able to overclock the intel U2300 to 1050/1575 and the ION +50 so now some games play better (2x4GB DDR3 1333 RAM has yet to arrive; that should help a bit). No extra heat or fan's like a free upgrade. I look forward to the day when mini PCs have i5 mobile processors - which they should now, because what's the difference between this and a laptop, other than the ZBOX is easier to work on.

5 out of 5 eggsawesome WIN7/XBMC box

Pros: easy to open, add memory and HD
boots fast - 25 seconds to the XBMC menu
low CPU usage on HD and DVD playback

Cons: LEDs a bit bright - turned off WiFi so that LED would not blink
no integrated IR receiver (that would be cool huh)

Other Thoughts: - added leftover 2GB RAM and Intel SSD
- needed to set the SmartFan Control in BIOS to 50/80/30/200, now the unit is nearly silent
- BIOS key is DEL (not in manual!)
- installed WIN7, installed Ion drivers and updates from Windows Update, installed HDMI driver from the Zotac web site - EVERYTHING WORKS
- some configuring to do on XBMC 10.1 that 9.11 did not need - 7.1 audio for example (WIN7 needed that enabled via sound control panel also)

This install was the easiest new PC setup ever. Why dink with Linux (and that's being charitable - have you read what it takes to get sound working with Linux?) when WIN7 is so easy/fast and performs flawlessly?

5 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely Awesome!!!

Pros: This little device gets me giddy every time I get near it. Popping off the cover (very easy to do) and inserting a hard disk and memory chip makes me smile and get excited every time. Why? Because it works first time, every time! Use the CD to install the USB 3.0 and Network drivers. I’ve even used CloneZilla to speed up installation of multiple devices, and they all just work. I didn’t get this from FoxConn, and will not purchase their devices again.

The Bios (hit DEL at boot) has a lot of features, and it’s easy to boot from USB Key or CD/DVD from the last menu. I’ve tried multiple Vendor’s DDR3 1333 memory and they all work flawlessly. The Windows 7 Index rating is: Processor = 3.7, Memory = 5.5, Graphics = 4.1, Gaming = 5.7, Hard Disk = 5.9 (Same w/5400 and 7200).

Cons: There is no S-Video output for my old TV so we can watch foreign soccer on the 32" screen.

Other Thoughts: If I wasn't so cheap and upgraded to an HDMI capable TV, maybe I could watch foreign soccer.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing experience! Great computer! Kudos to ZOTAC!!!

Pros: I upgraded from another nettopt with a K125 processor and GeForce 9200. the difference between them is amazing! I was worried about the cpu, since in single core apps the K125 was (according to benchmarks) faster, but in real world, the single core differences are minimal (if any), and when the second core is used, it blows the K125 away. Then the graphics are amazing! Fast to a degree that´s hard to believe in such a small package. It can be oc´d, and it does help a bit to make it faster still. The esata port works wonderful. As an HTPC it gets the job done with flying colors . DVD playing is superb, HD youtube (1080) is ultra smooth. Office ´07 runs at least as fast as my workplace desktop (C2D 2.66). I installed 4GB RAM, a 500GB WD Black HD, Win 7 ultimate 64 bit. I even can play some games on this! Flight sim (FSX and fs9) runs great here! Gonna try Crysis and a few others. In short: GET IT AS SOON AS YOU CAN!

Cons: The only thins it that, as one reviewer mentioned, there was some smudge on the motherboard, and traces of what seemed to be a fingerprint on it. I found it odd, but decided to give it a try before returning it. Nothing to worry about, it would seem.

Other Thoughts: Not a con, probably my mistake, but I cannot make both HD (internal and esata) appear on the boot menu when I press F11. I will try to investigate a bit more.

Even if this is definitely not to be considered a gaming machine, you can definitely play a lot of games if your expectatives are not high. For me, the fact that I can run FSX with textures set to high, ground textures to max and get 25fps is more that I was hoping for. FS9 is completely maxed out, including real world traffic, and I get 30fps, even in high populated areas. Again, more than I expected (and FS9 is not dual core enabled!)

Again, as an HTPC (at least with DVDs) it works wonderful. I used my previous computer to watch cable TV (analog, no digital yet in Guatemala) and while it worked, I definitely was unable to do anything else during commercials. With this beaut, I can surf the web, do some office chores and still enjoy fluid video. In short, this is a GREAT computer! Congrats, ZOTAC!

5 out of 5 eggsHTPC

Pros: Price, compact in size, WIFI, choice of RAM and HDD.

Cons: None thus far. Had to reinstall video driver from NVIDIA website. Could not get the computer to switch to HDMI when connected to a tv, but would on a computer monitor. Problem solved with new driver.

Other Thoughts: This works well for a home theater personal computer. Works well and video looks great on a 50" LCD TV. I installed a 1TB HDD with 4GB RAM and loaded it with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Total investment came in just under $500.

2 out of 5 eggsWifi driver problem on XP

Pros: More powerful than Atom based nettops.

Cons: I cannot install wifi driver on XP (I am getting error "Device not present..."). Win 7 finds the device and installs device with no problem.

Other Thoughts: Zotac so called customer support forwarded the link to the drivers as if customers do not know where to find those on Zotac website. The problem is that those drivers do not work.

5 out of 5 eggsexcellent htpc system

Pros: small, LED lights not too bright, enough power for most htpc functions, spare mini PCIX slot, ddr3, wireless-N, etc.
bios can mount flash drives as a floppy/cd

Cons: no USB3.0
mild hdmi audio handshaking issues (windows 7 drivers are still a little testy)
sparse documentation
cpu fan makes a little noise after running (about the same amount as a PS3)
sleep/hibernate modes do not work very well

Other Thoughts: There's a spare mini-PCIX slot in this (need to break warranty sticker to access though) , so you could add a tv tuner to this easily. CPU is not quite strong enough to software render 1080p content, but the ION handles it fine.
audio keeps cutting out due to hdmi handshaking. Changing the resolution to 720p then back to 1080p syncs it back up though. Install the ION chipset drivers from NVIDIAs website. The Zotac ones are junk.
