4 out of 5 eggsUsing for pfSense and VPN

Pros: I bought this mainly for the dual NIC ports. The i7 is overdoing it a bit, but, it's handling Virtualbox with pfSense/OpenVPN , WHS 2011 and OwnCloud along with Plex server from a USB HDD running natively in Windows 7. It's been great for playing around inside Virtualbox. I can say it's been running for three weeks now as my home router and I haven't had an issue since. pfSense has been running non stop and I haven't had an issue.

Cons: The cooling seems a bit substandard. I understand it's a T variant i7 and a mini PC format, but it seems to run warm regardless of load and BIOS fan settings. I'd prefer to have it run cooler, but the temp seems to hang around 150 on low loading and 170 under high loading.

Other Thoughts: I got this for less than 400 bucks. For that it's been great to be able to play with some new software in a package that's efficient. I find that it seems to draw 25-30 watts. I'm surprised with it's stability. I wanted to get a small PC but was concerned that with the form factor, repairs and replacement part availability are unlikely.
If the cooling were better and I knew it was running solid for a few years this would be five stars.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat so far!

Pros: Easy to setup and customize, fast enough for my purposes, and rock-solid so far running Ubuntu Linux 13.04.

Cons: None so far!

Other Thoughts: I purchased this PC to use a Linux desktop, and so far I've been delighted with the purchase. Setup was a snap. It came configured with one SO-DIMM 4 GB DDR3/1600Mhz Kingston memory module, and a 500 GB SSD disk drive. I created an Ubuntu 13.04 desktop bootable USB thumb drive using the Pendrive Linux installer, and configured the BIOS to boot from USB, and installation of Ubuntu was a snap. It's been running for a week and I've had zero problems with it.

I did, however, upgrade the memory today from 4 GB to 16 GB, just so I'd have extra memory. That was very simple and easy to do. You can remove the cover with two thumb screws on the bottom of the case, and then remove the hard drive by removing another thumb drive, and then it only took seconds to remove the existing 4 GB SO-DIMM and replace it with two 8 GB SO-DIMMs.

I ordered this even though it had no reviews, based on the other good reviews that I had read about other Zotac products. Overall I give this product an enthusiastic thumbs-up, especially if you're looking for a mid-powered PC for general use. I've had zero "crashes" or kernel panics or "lock-ups" so far.

I will also add that I have NOT tried using the infrared remote, since I leave it on all the time. I also have not really pushed the graphics card very hard. I don't really use this PC for gaming, but the graphics seem awesome to me, and the Ubuntu Unity desktop seems pretty snappy in 1680x1050 resolution.
