4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Nice and small. Loaded Ubuntu on it using USB w/ no problems. Does what I wanted it for, running BOINC, Media Server (Still setting up). Works as good as I could expect.

Cons: Newegg Support. Came with an european power supply. Luckily I have a universal power strip I bought in Shanghai that I can use for the time being. Notified Newegg support, was told no problem. Was asked to look online and find a compatible plug and they would send me 2 (bought 2 units). After submitting a cord that would work along with a photo I took, received a followup email asking if I could use a shorter cord (the first one I found was 10'). No problem, but they wanted me to look for it. I told them I would be happy w/ any that would work. Was then emailed saying it would be easier for me to just RMA the units (after I had them set up and working). I'm sure that would be easier for Newegg, but not me. I ordered 3 more similar, I will RMA them and cancel any further orders if I have the same problems.

Other Thoughts: Disappointed with Newegg customer support. They are usually very good from what I've heard/read from other users. Just thought it wrong that the customer had to do the extra work instead of them. I'll just find cords that will work and pay extra $$$ out of my pocket to fix it, or just replace the plug myself.

4 out of 5 eggsGood as is. Could be better. Warranty seals are in place.

Pros: Small form factor, silent and comes with a remote w/built in IR receiver. Plays Netflix instant streaming at around 60% CPU usage with the Silverlight 5 Beta in your browser of choice.

Cons: Don't lose the included cd-rom, it should contain the NEC (Renesas) chip USB3 driver. Giada website only has the Fusion chipset drivers.

Other Thoughts: This is not a barebones system kit, it is sealed with 3 screws with two covered by stickers and series of clips. One sticker contains the serial number and the other contains date of manufacture.

Also the antennae for the wifi card are each taped to the side panels.

Once inside you'll be able to see the HDD, blower fan and heatsink. To get the second panel off there are 11 screws, coarse threaded and sized to Phillips head # 2. Leave the smaller heatsink screws alone.

I pried the antenna off of the first panel to get it out of my way; if you're more patient, once you have both panels free you can disconnect the wires from the wifi card.

Once you have both panels out, the 11 screws unscrewed and the wireless antenna wires pried off...

And that is when you can remove the RAM and replace it with a 4gb stick.

tl;dr
The above are the steps I went through to upgrade the RAM on the Giada A50-BA531. You'll need spudgers, size #0 and size #2 Philips head to even attempt this

5 out of 5 eggsMost pleased

Pros: Extremely small, quiet, wireless, bluetooth and a media center remote.

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: A nice small footprint, seems to stream Netflix and internet tv at 1080p just fine. Will probably get another one soon.

4 out of 5 eggsReview Giada A50-BA531

Pros: Bought this Giada MiniPC to replace a single core Atom MiniPC I was using as part of our home entertainment system. The Giada MiniPC with the AMD dual core CPU and the Radeon 6310 video chip is much more powerful. It streams video extremely well.

I installed LinuxMint 11 Katya 64 bit. Installation went fine. Wifi, bluetooth, sound and ATI Catalyst drivers worked well.

The fan is real quite when it's running, you can barely hear it and you have to be up close to the unit.

Their customer service is very good, fast and helpful.

I would recommend this unit to others looking for a powerful MiniPC. It's a nice unit.

Cons: The units power supply came with a non-US plug. I called their customer service number and they were extremely helpful. They shipped out a new power cord right away and sent me a tracking number. I am temporarily using a foreign plug adapter until the new power cord comes.

No real BIOS access. You hit F12 at boot and you select what device to boot to.I think that's OK with a MiniPC.

Other Thoughts: The Radeon 6310 video chip uses close to 400MB of the 2GB of RAM, which is actually a good a thing. You want the Radeon 6310 to have access to as much RAM as possible. When I bought the unit from NewEgg, I also bought a stick of Corsair 4GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1066 RAM from NewEgg and ungraded the unit to 4GB of RAM. It runs great with the 4GB stick of Corsair RAM
