4 out of 5 eggsUpdated Review

Pros: New version of the firmware (March 2014?) provides lots of updates, but not to the Android OS. Improves memory performance enough that when using the Minix XBMC, plays 1080p just fine, zero problems. Even fixed problems in configuring XBMC via the remote (previously needed a usb mouse or keyboard).

Cons: Latest firmware has the DNS set at 75.75.75.75, which sorta works, but prevents you from registering via Google Play for apps. Changing the settings to static, with a DNS of 8.8.8.8 (backup 8.8.4.4) fixes this.

Other Thoughts: Playback of 1080p transport streams from a HD Homerun Prime still struggle, but 720p channels work fine.

If you want flawless 1080p support for TS files, then get the quad core version, which is a tad overpriced given that a root is out for the Fire TV.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdated Review

Pros: Plays just about any 720p/1080p file.

Cons: Basically need a mouse connected, any mouse will do.

Other Thoughts: Firmware is pretty easy to find on Minix's web site and using the supplied USB cable, its pretty easy to connect to Windows and update things, which bumps you to Android 4.2.2.

Once updated, download the customized version of XMBC Minix offers, which plays back 720p & 1080p flawlessly. But this version of XBMC must be based on Frodo 12.1 or 12.2 as it doesn't see any channels from my HD HomerunPrime. I have read that these older updates of XBMC has some broken DNLA/UPnP, so the customized version of XBMC is good for SMB or Local playback.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Should be a good system once I get it working. Has everything I need with its available apps (HBOGO) and its streaming video supported formats.

Cons: Arrived DOA. RMA'd and awaiting replacement. Will update if new one works.

Other Thoughts: Would have been nice if the first one worked propely...

4 out of 5 eggspretty good

Pros: best way to turn your tv into the smartest tv. low energy usage

Cons: netflix doesn't fully support android mini pc( not minix fault) no dolby digital/dts through xbmc. need to buy seperate remote to get best experience.

Other Thoughts: Minix seems to consistently update the firmware so hopefully it will be perfect soon.

4 out of 5 eggsXBMC

Pros: Google Play works, as does XBMC for Android.

Incredibly cheap Web Machine.

Cons: XBMC for Android needs to mature, most 480p files play fine, but 720p or larger stutter. Even the ones my 2nd gen AppleTV plays choke with this device. But once you switch to the built in media player, 720p and 1080p files work fine, so XBMC really needs to work on the hardware acceleration support. If you dont want to wait for that support, suggest a model with faster CPU. I can say that my wife's Asus Memo Pad HD7 has the same problems and thats a quad core mediatek cpu.

Other Thoughts: You cannot operate this device without a keybord or mouse connected. Sure it has google play, but login and password, couldn't do it unless I connected the keyboard. There was no way I could tab down to type in the password. In Netflix, you have to click on the left sidebar to pull up other categories, which cannot be done without a mouse. In XBMC its worse, you cant tab down to the virtual keyboard at all! But once its setup, you can disconnect the mouse and keyboard and walk away.

Also the built in launchers for Android can easily be replaced with something more familiar. Its insanely easy to switch as the top button on the remote, press it and it lets you switch.
