iStarUSA Storm Series D-400 350W Black 1.2mm SECC Zinc-Coated Steel 4U Rackmount Case 350W 4 External 5.25" Drive Bays

Pros: Had this in a recording studio for years in a mobile rack. This case has been dragged all over and taken all kinds of punishment with barely a hiccup. Well ventilated; one can build a nearly silent rig with few fans using this case. Lots of space inside. Nice to be able to pull out the filters and clean them (they pop right off the front doors), they get dirty pretty quick. Solid feeling switches and nice machining on all the parts/threads. The lift-out cages for the drives are well structured. It takes a little time to change out drives, but once they are in, they are solid. I've since brought this home and I'm doing a complete rebuild after a good 4+ years in service. I'm sticking with this case, it is rock solid.

Cons: They should sell it without the power supply. It will take a standard ATX/12V and the stock supply had to be replaced for our build. Somebody rogered around with the lock on this and the cylinder is missing now, so it is possible to get it out, I just don't know with what kind of time and effort.

Other Thoughts: As it says in the details, this is an ATX case - it's roomy as far as that goes, but won't fit a larger format server board without some modding, which I don't want to imagine trying to do to this steel. This bad boy is some heavy, heavy metal!

Pros: Our company uses this chassis for most customers requesting a rack-mountable surveillance DVR system, maybe 10-12 a year. We've had good success with these and have been using them (over several revisions) for several years. Solid construction, easy to work with. They've finally started including pre-built USB headers instead of providing loose individual pins, which was my biggest complaint. Included PSU is nothing to write home about but it works and we've never had one fail.

Cons: Removing the right drive cage can be tricky, as loosening the screws that hold the cage to the chassis also loosens the nut they connect to, which in turn screws into the chassis itself. Use of pliers is always required to hold the nut while the screw is loosened. Not much of an issue but irritating nonetheless.

Other Thoughts: The matching iStar sliding rails, sold separately, don't instill much confidence. I'd recommend spending more for better rails if you plan on using them.

Pros: This a great case, it's quiet, and it's strong. I liked it so much I have three of them now.

Cons: None at the moment

Pros: Excellent build quality.

Very heavy steel construction.

Cons: No included stick-on rubber feet.
Should have had 2 rear fans instead of 1.
Too bad the case wasn't available without the PSU.
It's a little heavy.

Other Thoughts: Whining about the rubber feet and only 1 fan is just that - whining. Overall this case is VERY nice. This is the first case I've ever owned where I was able to install a MOBO standoff for every MOBO mounting hole. The alignment is perfect for my ASUS P5E S PRO. THe tolerances on hole punching and all of the internal mounting parts is phenominal!! ThHis case is not the typical "hack" knock-off made by some cheap foreign metal house - it's very precise. I was able to easily install my 700W Seasonic PSU in place of the included 350 watt PSU. ThHe drive bays are very easy to remove and install. as was the MOBO mounting tray. The mounting of the included 120 MM front fan is very well engineered, and overall the case looks good. The back half of the top cover is perforated to allow heat to escape which is a very good thing. This case moves lots of air and so far my MOBO and CPU temps are very good. Would recommend this case to anyone who needs a quality engineered and built 4U PC Case.

Pros: Excellent and inexpensive case with plenty of room for drives.

Cons: Would like more room for 120mm fans.

Other Thoughts: Horrible experience, but can't blame IStarUSA. As one individual stated, this case DOES NOT support 12x13" Mainboards, howver that is Neweggs screw up, not IStarUSA. After receiving the case and the board not fitting I visited the IStarUSA site where it clearly shows this case accepting 12X10" mainboards. Thanks Newegg! Also, the case did not come with the rails which are supposed to be included. Will buy from IStarUSA again, but not from Newegg.

Pros: This case is amazing. It's big too. Very cool looking. Strong and well built! Carrying handles are a plus. Good ventilation. Comes with fans and hardware. Good price. Great buy.

Cons: Heavy! Clearances in the rack are very tight (I think it's a tenth of an inch too tall). 350W is low for some applications, but it works for me.

Other Thoughts: I will be buying another for a my personal file server.

Pros: Good solid case easy to setup

Cons: Would be nice to have 450w power supply instead of 350w. Little weak for servers with multiple HD's.

Other Thoughts: Will buy again. If power supply hold s up to 2 HD's and video surveillance cards.

Pros: Solid construction. Overall quality is excellent.

Cons: Front fan is very loud.

Pros: Very well built. iStar has at least a dozen models, so you can find the right case for your needs. This case has better ventilation than other rack mount cases I've used and seen, including tower cases. The ventilation in the back is perfect for hot graphic cards (I have the 7800GTX)

Cons: The photos on NewEgg are NOT what you get. The case has a lot more ventilation in the back, as well as TWO fan vents (only comes with one fan), not one.

Pros: This is a very high quality case. Worth every penny. Has room for one 120mm fan in the front of the case and two 80mm fans in the back (only one of each is included). Obviously, airflow is excellent. Dust filters are also included in the door of the case and are easily cleaned. The PSU is fine, but can easily be replaced by any ATX power supply.

Cons: When compared to standard ATX Desktop cases, this is very heavy. This is mostly because the case is made from high quality material. This is easily overlooked as the handles make transporting the case easier. Also, unless I am just completely overlooking it, I don't think there is an internal 3.5" drive bay, and if a HDD is mounted in the external bay, the bay cover will not fit in. I would recommend mounting it in a 5.25" bay.

Other Thoughts: Wow! I can't say enough about this case. I am very pleased. Also, this was the very first order that I had a problem with Newegg. I only ordered one case, but they charged my account twice, causing my account to be overdrawn. I sent the other one back, and Newegg is fully refunding the other case (that I never ordered), but I was charged $50 in overdraft protection by my bank because of this. Very inconvenient. I also saw several complaints about Newegg in recent Maximum PC Magazine issues. I have always thought Newegg is the best place to buy anything, and still do, but I hope they are not beginning to slack off...
