The GPSMAP 76S features a WAAS-enabled receiver, which locates your position to within 10 feet, and it floats…just in case! You can connect the unit to your computer, and download additional waypoints, maps, and marine charts to the unit’s internal memory. This is a great choice for all your outdoor activities!

Great Traveling Companion
- Pros: Accurate, good chart availability. Good display visibility in all lighting conditions. Easy to save waypoints, routes, and tracks with Mapsource software. Lots of memory for charts. Barometer can be useful for a look ahead at the weather. Flux gate compass can be used as a hand-bearing compass. NMEA output is great to route to a VHF with DSC.
- Cons: A bit slow to update when changing screens, but it's not the newest technology. Communications is serial, not USB. Charts seem a little expensive. Does anybody make a hand-held GPS that uses ENC charts?
- Other Thoughts: I've owned one of these since they first came out. It cost $500 at that time. Today it's a bargain basement deal! I have thousands of sea miles on it, both on my boat an other people's boats. It has stood up to a lot of rain, sun, heat, and even a few drops. People are always amazed at how fast I can come up with heading info, obstructions, and boat conditions with this unit. I wouldn't sail without it!
