The pocket-sized Garmin nüvi 780 gives you turn-by-turn voice directions with spoken street names and a touch-sensitive, full-color widescreen, so it’s easy to stay on course! The built-in FM transmitter lets your nüvi broadcast directions out through your car stereo, and with the built-in Bluetooth, you can also use it as a hands-free speakerphone.
The Li-ion battery lets you use nüvi to navigate on foot for up to 4 hours between charges, so you can let it lead the charge when you’re making sales calls, or out for a day of shopping conquest. When you need to make multiple stops, the nüvi 780 lets you enter all your destinations, then organizes them for you, so you can save time and gas by driving to them in the most efficient order.
The unit ships with preloaded City Navigator NT maps, and includes a huge database of Points of Interest (POI), like gas stations, restaurants, and shopping. The nüvi 780 uses a high-sensitivity GPS receiver to pinpoint your location to within 10 feet, and includes an MSN Direct receiver, which brings you MSN traffic, show times, stock quotes, and much more. The Garmin nüvi 780 offers all the flexibility you need to make your travels much easier!

Pros: Great product. It does just what its suppose to do which is to keep you from getting lost and to get you from point A to point B, in most cases rite to the front door, a feature that has saved us much time and money. I have owned my Garmin 780 which I purchased on here 6 months ago for a great price and so far the above unit has paid for itself 4 times over and then some.
Cons: The only complaint I have is not with the unit itself but with the MSN Life Time Service. Garmin advertises that you will pay a one time fee of $129.95 + Tax to MSN for Life Time Traffic and Info Service, but when I called to renew my service I was informed that (By Microsoft)Microsoft considers the word Lifetime to be only 5 years. Just so everyone understands I have no complaints about paying $129.00 for 5 years service for the above feature (A feature that has save me much money) I just wish they would take the words One Time Lifetime Payment out of the advertisement.
Other Thoughts: I love this thing, I only wish they (GPS Units) would have been available when I was driving the Big Trucks hauling machinery and steel into cities like LA/NYC/Boston and Chicago back in the Seventy's. I would also like to add that if you have never used a GPS before you need to give yourself some time to really get to know the above unit because it took me a while to figure out the different settings, but once I did it was a joy to use. On a recent 16 day Fly/Drive trip to California and Nevada I took the time to preload all the names and addresses of the places we planned on visiting along with the routes and it made our ventures to places like LA/San Fransisco and several National Parks enjoyable + this is the first vacation that I have never had pull over and stop and send the wife into a Gas Station to get directions because we were hopelessly loss or need directions to a restaurant or hotel.

Much better than my old Magellan Meridian Color
Reviewed By: on 8/9/2008
Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Finds satellites and locks in quickly; Meridian could take upto 15 min or not at all. Activated MSDirect and have sent locations to nuvi from my browser window. Real time traffic info is great. No problems locking into MS Direct but only have used it locally in NE Ohio. Bluetooth allows no hands phone use and is easy to set up and use. Oh, and routes me to and from my destination directly.
Cons: Can not generate a list of directions from current location to endpoint that my Meridian Color could. Could not make the FM broadcast work correctly, but neither did I read the directions and I listen to the radio alot so why keep it on an unused frequency?
Other Thoughts: Made in America; Magellan is owned by a French company that never delivered on web based updates to their POI database that they promised in their press releases. Because of that and because updating the software from the unusable Mapsend Streetsand Destinations USA to an adequate Mapsend Direct required much $ I will never purchase Magellan again as I do not trust them.

Pros: Maps are more detailed than TomTom. The GPS also acquires satellites a lot faster. MSN traffic is a great add-on that will save you a lot of time. One-time purchase of all maps is a great add-on. Indication of speed limits is very helpful. On map mode, when you know where you're going and don't need directions, it indicates your traveling speed, which I find out looking rather than checking my speedometer.
Cons: Very slow, and also inaccurate. While that GPS is great on highways, it becomes a nightmare in cities. It is sometimes late by 20 or 30 yards, which, and shows that you are at an intersection when you have already passed it. In complicated intersections, it is a nightmare. MSN Traffic will be discontinued in 2012. Garmin has not advertised anything for a replacement.
Other Thoughts: Adding your actual speed in all modes, and letting people know of MSN Traffice replacement would be great bonuses (as well as a way to enhance accuracy).

Pros: Compare to TomTom, Garmin has one great function which TomTom doesn't have is "Save location" That is the only function I think that is better than TomTom.
Cons: very slow to get it starts. When it starts, it will ask you drive to highlight route. That's always drive me crazy. It's hard to understand from the map to go forward or turn around to the highlight route. I go forward, the map is recalculated. I turn around, the map still recalculate. And it takes long time to recalculate. Meanwhile, you already miss the exit or the street you need to turn.
Other Thoughts: I try to keep it because I don't to lose my money. But last week I try again in NJ. I was on the route 17. Before I turned into gas station, I checked the gps that I should go stright on rount 17. When I came out the gas station, the gps directed me to turn to other street. After that, I was completely lost. Took me a long drive on local to come back on highway. I decided to give to my sister and buy another Tomtom which I used to have one.
