An easy way to add GPS navigation to your car, Garmin's StreetPilot c330 is designed for users wanting the basic conveniences of a GPS system that's immediately ready for use—just power it up and go. The unit is uncomplicated to operate and secures in your car by a suction-mount cradle that attaches to your windshield and is easily removed for use in other vehicles.

A simple touchscreen interface lets you quickly plan your route or add new destinations without having to connect to a computer first. Turn-by-turn voice-prompted directions get you to your destination without having to take your eyes off the road. And since the unit features dual integrated speakers, you don't have to connect it to you car's audio system. The 3.5-inch diagonal, 16-bit color display means you won't have to struggle to see your next turn. You can also choose between a three-dimensional navigation view and a more traditional overhead bird's-eye view.

Ready to use, right out of the box, the c330 comes preprogrammed with highly detailed City Navigator North America street data. There's a built-in Secure Digital (SD) card slot as well for transferring more maps to your unit onto an SD card via a USB connection with your PC. You can also import customized points of interest with Garmin's free POI Loader software. Upload safety cameras or school zones, and you will receive a warning if you are traveling too fast. In addition, an optional proximity-alert feature notifies you of upcoming custom POIs.

3 out of 5 eggsBeware battery and repair costs

Pros: Worked great for the first year. Used it to support disaster recovery operations in several cities and areas I have never been to before. Relied on it heavily. For the most part, it worked great, but then ...

Cons: the battery went out after about 15 months. Garmin Tech Support said to send it in for repair. That, plus shipping and the cost of a new battery would be about two hundred seventy five USD (Any and all repairs are two hundred twenty five USD per the Garmin site. It is obscene and unjustifiable greed to charge that much to replace a battery! I bought one on MDSbattery dot com for under twenty two USD and replaced it myself. There's more ...

Other Thoughts: It cost an additional seventy five USD (includes shipping) to update the maps! If greed is good, Garmin is Great!

2 out of 5 eggsNot the best

Pros: Clear screen. Super easy to use.

Cons: No free software updates. They want a fortune for the updates. I would pass just on that feature. My house is neighborhood is 5 years old and that are no maps that find my house. Maybe it's good in big cities but for Oklahoma City this is a horrible device. Get a Tom Tom. Much better!

5 out of 5 eggsGarmin is the BEST

Pros: Really nice unit. Small and very easy to use. It's so easy to use that my electronic deficient mom could use it! The woman speaks clearly to you and loud enough. Updating is very easy, just plug in usb and click update on the computer software.

Cons: Does not have certain features such as mile per gallon calculator. That makes me sad :-\.

Other Thoughts: Bang for the buck. I found to be very useful. Bought one for my girlfriend and was thinking about one for me, but I don't think I'll use it that much. Garmin is the best.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat deal!

Pros: It is so worth it when you don't get lost. It gets you back on track if you take a wrong turn. It's very easy to use & so far it's been very accurate. It even gives you info on parking from where you are located. I have seen very expensive units that friends have bought and, in my opinion, mine is way better all the way around. For the price & features, you can't go wrong. And has he cheapest price.

Cons: The battery doesn't seem to last very long, so make sure you have your charger & fuses. It has told me to turn right a few times when I was supposed to go left, but there was also construction going on.

Other Thoughts: Great unit, great price...thanks newegg!!!

5 out of 5 eggsVery pleased!

Pros: I agree with all the satisfied users in that this unit is beyond simple to use. No matter what your technical level may be, you will have no problems operating this device and furthermore, will have no problems getting use out of every features this device offers. Acquisition time is very quick and I found the device to be extremely accurate.

Firmware updates were easy.

Cons: Even though I cleaned my window before placing the suction cup on, it fell off twice. Maybe it was my fault. Also it seemed to lag a bit when zooming in and out in high-detail mode. And maybe I just don't know how to work it but it seems there is no way to speed up the simulated-drive you can do. If I wanted to simulate a route from Seattle to New York, it would take 4 days to watch it complete. You would think you could speed up the time and watch it go faster. ?

Other Thoughts: It is a very simple device. it would be nice to see your UTM or Lon Lat coords.

2 out of 5 eggsJust shy of enough

Pros: A good reliable GPS unit for the money. Has the Garmin interface that is the same as all the street pilot series.

Cons: Too little memory to load the full 2008 map update. The c330 comes with the old maps and Garmin does not give you the free 2008 update with this. If you do buy the update, you have to choose between the US or Canada to load. The SD memory slot is only good for a map pack, you cannot load POI or use it as expanded memory to the main unit. POI loader seemed flaky with this model as memory was limited.

Other Thoughts: For the price, I would strongly recommend moving to the c340 as it's memory is larger and the 2008 maps come with it or Garmin will send you the update for free. The re-certified c340 is actually cheaper than the c330 anyway from newegg.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat! When it works, that is.

Pros: The price is right, and all the important features are there. The unit is simple and easy to learn and operate.

Cons: The screen used on the c330 is quite reflective, which can really hamper visibility of the GPS unit.

Reliability! My unit decided to stop talking to satellites in the middle of a 750-mile road trip. No, I was not in a tunnel or some other obstructed area. After searching the internet, I found the "Acquiring Satellites" issue is quite common with the c330. I just sent my c330 back to Garmin. The software update that was available does NOT remediate this issue.

Other Thoughts: Sure, it's cost-effective, but I'm very disappointed with the lack of reliability. Maybe the unit I get back from Garmin will work better, but I doubt it.

BTW, a review's "helpfulness" is not a reference to whether you agree with it or not!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Extremely simple to use. Has a ton of places to eat and sleep. Its better than my father's $2000 in dash navigation system.

Cons: Searching for an address could be a little simpler, but it still only takes about 30-60 seconds to do.

Other Thoughts: Got me from Chicago to Cincinnati in about 7 hours with a lot of road construction on the way there.
