The pocket-sized Garmin nüvi 265WT gives you turn-by-turn voice directions with spoken street names and a touch-sensitive, full-color widescreen, so it’s easy to stay on course! The nüvi mounts quickly with an included suction cup mount and adhesive dash disk, and pops off with a gentle tug, so you can take it with you. The Li-ion battery lets you use nüvi to navigate on foot for up to 4 hours between charges, so you can let it lead the charge when you’re making sales calls, or out for a day of shopping conquest.
The unit ships with preloaded regional maps, and includes a huge database of Points of Interest (POI), like gas stations, restaurants, attractions and parks, and shopping. You can also use the Garmin POI Loader software (free download) to install custom POI like traffic camera locations and school zones, and then set proximity alerts to warn you when you’re approaching one.
This Garmin also has a built-in FM traffic receiver to help you avoid sitting in traffic jams. The Garmin nüvi 265WT is a slick entry into the auto GPS market with the great price!

Good device, but not great (spoiled by Google Maps)
- Pros: Large, very bright screen
Speaker volume and directions are easy to hear Voice commands are impressive, pronouncing nearly all street names clearly and correctly Compact and portable (although in the case it is too big to comfortably put in my pocket) Nice leather case (optional) Suction cup windshield mount works great
- Cons: Car charging / traffic reception cable is bulky and annoying to drape across my dash
Traffic updates are not terribly accurate (I was stopped in traffic for 20 minutes but the display was green) ETA calculations seem to be too optimistic, not adequately considering actual traffic speeds As another reviewer noted, it is often tedious to get back to the home page or back to the route map when trying to change options No "mute" option to make directions shut up when it gets annoying Sometimes has a hard time detecting route deviations (e.g. when on a frontage road next to a freeway, it thinks you are on the freeway, or vice versa) Even though it says I have the latest maps, it lacks addresses for businesses and roads that have been around for over 2 years I have had several situations where I could not find a location that was listed on Google maps Sometimes chooses very strange routes when Google Maps on my phone chooses a much simpler route
- Other Thoughts: A new 2009 CA law requires that windshield mounted devices be in the lower right or left corner of the windshield. This means that I have to drape the bulky power cable across my dash or steering wheel column. It would be nice if they could slim down the power cable and / or make the FM traffic receiver a separate cord / plug.
The Garmin is a good device, but I have found that I've become so comfortable with the accuracy, flexibility, and quality of Google Maps, that I am having a hard time appreciating the Nuvi. After using the nuvi several times, I'm finding that Google Maps on my phone provides much better location / point of interest search results and better routing instructions. Google Maps also seems to have better live traffic updates and travel time w/delay calculations.
GREAT GPS
- Pros: Wide screen, voice to text, bluetooth, lifetime traffic (awesome), anti-theft feature, displays the speed limit, & even calculates your gas useage.
- Cons: Bluetooth at times doesnt work real well. Sounds okay on my end, but I get complaints from the other person. But I feel that way with all bluetooth.
If you live in a small city or town traffic feature probably will not work. No other cons
- Other Thoughts: I had a garmin C340 before someone recently broken into my car and stole it. So this was a replacement unit for me. I love garmin GPS, I think they are great.
Dont listen to these people complaining about way points and software issues. I have had mine for 1 week now and my c340 for 3 years and both worked great. Please remember to read the directions and setup the GPS before downloading the free 2010 maps (which by the way takes a while)
Dollar for dollar this is the best GPS on the market right now. And it was under $230 here plus free shipping, unmatched.
FYI, I have order several things from newegg, great service, great products & quick delivery. I have officially stopped buying things from the guys in blue (B*** B**)!!

Works as advertised
- Pros: Works right out of the box as advertised.
Fast GPS signal aquisition. No issues, have owned since May 2009. This is my 2nd Garmic, after Nuvi 360. FM traffic is generally accurate. Widescreen really helps, speed limit indicator is a nice feature. Map update was easy and painless.
- Cons: Speaker output audio is scratchy, lots of noise over Bluetooth connection. Would be nice if unit had background noise cancellation.
Map updates are expensive, and haven't kept up with reconstructed roads. Advertisements during traffic updates are annoying.
- Pros: LIFETIME TRAFFIC, more POIs than you'll ever need. Can find gas, hospitals, police, food, just about anything along your route, not just whats near you right then. Fuel eco route and eco rating/challenge is a nice feature too
comes with usb cable to connect to computer and car adapter with windshield and dash mount
- Cons: Sometimes has trouble connecting to satellites even on a clear sunny day, not sure why it happens but it usually fixes itself within an hour...
- Other Thoughts: traffic needs to update faster, been stuck in traffic jams that were easily avoidable...seems like they would be able to calculate this with all the GPSs in cars that are stuck...maybe next year?
still usually gets me around the big problems so I'm not running hours late
Excellent GPS
- Pros: Wide Screen, LIFETIME TRAFFIC, Excellent POI database. The Nav that came with my SUV has gotten me lost more than i care to remember, and this little thing hasn't dropped the ball once.
- Cons: None so far.
- Other Thoughts: Purchased this for my wife, so she doesn't use the bluetooth or any of the other fancy technology. But all in all, this thing is accurate and inexpensive. I highly recommend it.
