4 out of 5 eggsGoodone

Pros: Compact and easy to carry
serves the purpose

Cons: not happy with the suction mount that came along
old POIs

Other Thoughts: the first one i received could not keep up to the 50m/hr speed, it often missed reading out directions and lost satellite even when passing quick under a overhead bridge. got a replacement, which is working good since June 2010 except the following issue.

it has old POIs like gas stations. i once rented a car and wanted to refill the tank before returning it. hit bp on GPS from POIs which is 2.7miles far after nearing the rental car return location. but it kept on directing me on the same route again and again making circles. i got frustrated and chose a 7/11 about 4miles far and finally reached the gas station. it probably had a old reference to POIs.

i was not happy with the mount that came along, spent 33$ extra to buy a friction mount.

It alerts for the directions in advance rather than at the neck of the moment, which helps to plan ahead.

its a good choice overall.

now looking for a another GPS for my new car, i would consider buying this again.

3 out of 5 eggsthis is the gps to get

Pros: -instantly goes to your location when starts up
-has a 'sleep' mode for quick startup like a laptop
-computes the route to your destination quickly
-great for finding places(poi) and exploring
-allows you to type part of a location and it guesses the rest
-great text to voice
-gives you the approx to destination and what speed you are going and has detours just incase(automatically)
-requires absolutely no antenna
-detects your direction even if you have only turned 2-3 feet

Cons: -very big glitch: if the device tells you to turn left onto a highway from a close parallel street but you just keeps going straight, its going to assume you are on the highway even though you are not, so you will get lost and cant reset until you go off course
-the points of interest for finding locations is very old. i have tried to go to computer stores all the time and it just leads me to some dead end neighborhood.
-needs to be updated because some roads have drastically changed but it acts like they are still there

Other Thoughts: there are some flaws but i have seen a lot worse gps devices compared to this one. this is the best ive seen just get it, dont even consider others.

2 out of 5 eggsKeeps powering down!!!

Pros: Works good while its on, made it to FL. with no problems. Some of the street pronunciations were off but close.

Cons: Keeps powering off. The first day of use driving to Florida it powered off after 3 hrs of use, needed to hold down to power button for 10 seconds to get it to power back up. After that it happened about 4 times that day anywhere from 1 hr to 16 minutes apart. I read somewhere it may need an update to prevent it from powering off but I did the update when I took it out of the package. Now what!!!

Other Thoughts: Now I'm stuck if Florida for 2 months with a bad GPS. I only have it 2 eggs because it keeps powering down otherwise i would have given it 5 eggs

5 out of 5 eggsGarmin Nuvi 1200

Pros: Fast GPS fix once you have established your first connection, Smooth mapping, Voice Guidance with spoken street names is the best feature. Big plus so you can keep your eyes on the road and not the map. Device is solid and well built. Comes with 2010.10 map

Cons: POI database needs updating, Although I think the spoken street names is one of the best feature, it doe's need work. Some names will not be pronounced 100% correct, good enough you'll know what it is saying. Updating maps can cost a fortune.

Other Thoughts: Had garmin mobile xt on my moto Q that was great, best gps for a smartphone So I decided to upgrade to a real garmin. Bought 2 last week for 109.00 and this week their 99. Buy it! I love this unit, wife loves her's too. Awesome can't wait to travel.

5 out of 5 eggsnice little unit.

Pros: Worked great out of the box, for the occasional traveler, this was a great buy. Pretty quick to recalculate routes, speaks loudly and clearly, even if the voice often doesn't pronounce the street names properly, the kids think it's funny. And best of all I won't have to listen to my mother-in-law complain about me now knowing how to get around in a town I have never been to before!!

Cons: none yet, does what I hoped it would.

1 out of 5 eggsUpdate Sucks

Pros: I'd love to find out.

Cons: The update is a 2 gig download, extracts to 4 gigs. The update cannot be gracefully stopped once it has filled the hard drive (cancel does nothing). Now my free update has disappeared (I can buy one) and I have a nice promise that support will get back to me in three days excluding weekends and holidays. This is not the customer service I expect.
