3 out of 5 eggsIt's Ok

Pros: The lane thing is great. Has all the features you need for a gps. It's routed me through some bad traffic by taking side streets which is great. Supposed to have ads for traffic updates, but I've never seen one.

Cons: Take a while to boot up at times. The voice commands aren't the greatest. The user interface could be a little better. I could not figure out how to, after following the directions to the letter, upload my gpx files to the device. So I ended up writing my own little program to do it. Which was good because I could now do it on linux. Their "software" stuff doesn't support linux.

Other Thoughts: It's ok, but don't follow it blindly.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent gps

Pros: Excellent GPS. Shaped like an iphone. Bright, high resolution screen. Voice activation works much better than expected. Worth every cent.

Cons: Be careful when putting this into the dock. If you put it in wrong, it is easy to bend the case when trying to remove it (learned from experience).

Other Thoughts: This is the exact same hardware used in Garmin's newest top of the line nuvi model: 3490. If you google search, you can find instructions to easily flash the firmware 3490 to this device. Do that you add new features: Garmin connected services (link to android phone to use it's data services), exit services (locates POI based on upcoming highway exits) and advanced detour routing (including the ability to exclude specific roads from the route). Easy to do the flash and once done you have basically the more expensive nuvi model. (Note the 3490 comes with the HD traffic module and this model comes with the normal traffic module. The normal traffic module works just fine with the flashed 3490 firmware

2 out of 5 eggsSlow finding satellites

Pros: It has a pretty screen. Enojyable to the eye. Though, I would much rather have ANY TomTom over this Garmin. It's just dumb.

Cons: The thingy takes like 5 - 8 minutes to find its stupid satellites. My old TomTom took under 2 minutes.
For long drives, I still will use my two year old TomTom over this piece of poooo. Its shinny and pretty, but doesn't pull the job off well at all.

1 out of 5 eggsCool features, but...

Pros: The Nuvi 3790T has a fantastic display. Very clear and intuitive.

The voice activation is not perfect, but still fairly good - I can speak an address and it get it correct about 40% of the time. I tend to use the keypad mostly as it ends up being faster and more accurate.

The speedlimit feature is awesome!

Cons: The Nuvi 3790T is very slow to find the satellites. It usually takes 3-5 minutes to find the satellites. I can live with that, but my iPhone and plane GPS (also a Garmin) can find the satellites in less than a minute. What's worse is that it doesn't come with lifetime maps. At $349 it should come with lifetime maps. Instead, Garmin requires you to pay an additional $89 for lifetime maps, which comes free with many cheaper GPS's.

Other Thoughts: Have not used the bluetooth.

It is supposed to have traffic information, but it doesn't seem to work. Google Maps appear to be more up-to-date with traffic.

At this pricetag, I would expect lifetime maps and a faster startup time. For that reason, I give it 1 egg. With lifetime maps it would have gotten 4 eggs.

5 out of 5 eggsbest car gps out there

Pros: FAST processor for a GPS unit, loading large amounts of map data in 2 seconds tops. Love the elevation data showing as actual terrain on the maps. No delays or hitches when used with the ecoRouteHD transponder.

Can load multiple maps *of any name* in the Maps folder, plus one more named "gmapsupp" in the MicroSD. And you can put a LOT of maps on there, as the 8 GB internal memory is half empty.

Can mount vertically, an orientation I prefer, which makes the maps zoom out and focus more on what's ahead rather than what's on the sides.

Huge resolution with tiny pixels, making everything on the map crisp and clear.

Capacitive touchscreen is quite accurate, and also features multi-touch.

External speaker and Bluetooth are both loud and clear.

Default sleep function makes normal startup instant.

HotFix feature gets a position fix within seconds.

Very thin and light, yet with solid construction. Have used this out of my pocket multiple times with no issues.

I've rea

Cons: Still uses NAVTEQ maps, which are always out of date, especially with minor roads and military posts.

Has too loose a tolerance for following roads, sometimes putting me on and calculating routes for parallel roads, and often assuming I am traveling on a road even when 30 m away.

Capacitive touch screen means I can't use gloves with it. Even with bare skin sometimes I have to push a little hard for the input to register.

Traffic data hit-or-miss, but this is a NAVTEQ issue, not so much the GPS itself. Periodic ads, sometimes irrelevant and outdated. I did purchase a $70 subscription for a Clear Channel traffic subscription, but this was more about the poorer area coverage by NAVTEQ than the ads themselves.

Orientations available are top-up and left side-up only.

MicroSD map still has to be named "gmapsupp".

Looks like something a burglar would want to steal (not sure if that's really a con).

Other Thoughts: Unicode support allows text from maps of any language.

Allows for changing the theme, which modifies the colors of the active map features. Can't customize them though. (I personally prefer the Deutschland colors).

Still has the same robotic voices as every other Garmin. You can make your own though, but only in a few European languages and without the street name readings.

Will get uncomfortably warm under use and sunlight.

I've never personally tried the voice feature.

Also now comes in an LMT version (free maps and traffic updates for life).

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great!

Pros: I love the look and feel of this. The touch screen is so much nicer than other models. It feels like a iPhone or iTouch. The touch is much more sensitive than other GPS units, and very easy to read.

When I say its easier to read, this is because of the higher resolution. Text/Street names are so much clearer, and don't look blurry like some other models with lower resolution.

Very fast and responsive dragging, zooming, etc. I can easily and quickly pan around the map from my current location and not get frustrated like I have with other GPS systems.

Cons: I wish there were more speed limits available. Some roads don't show MPH on the GPS. Once it gets a signal, its great. However, on some occasions it has taken a very long time to get a signal. Initially getting a single on a very rainy, snowy, windy day can be a pain. Though, once you have a signal, it does okay in those conditions.

Other Thoughts: This was a little pricey, but well worth it. Don't be a slacker like me and forget to get your free map update. I was going to wait til the last day, then I forgot and missed it. I thought it was 90 days, but I think it ended up being 30 or 60 days.
