Garmin Golf GPS Navigator

Give your game a boost of confidence with Approach G3, a rugged, waterproof, touchscreen golf device packed with thousands of preloaded golf course maps. Approach uses a high-sensitivity GPS receiver to measure individual shot distances and show the exact yardage to fairways, hazards and greens.

  • newegg Fits Perfectly in Your Pocket A bit smaller and lighter than the Approach G5, Approach G3 is ideal if you prefer to walk the course. Still as rough and rugged as its big brother, Approach G3 lightens your load no matter how you get around the course.
  • newegg Eliminate the Guesswork Approach displays and updates your exact position on stunningly detailed, preloaded course maps throughout the United States and Canada. Approach’s highly sensitive GPS receiver pinpoints your position and removes guesswork from your game. And as you move, Approach automatically updates your position, so you’ll always know your yardage. There are no subscriptions or setup fees, and Approach is compliant with USGA rules.
  • newegg Touch the Target Need to measure distances for your next shot? Touch any point on the sunlight-readable display, and Approach shows the precise distance to that exact spot—fairway, hazard, landing area, or the front, middle and back of the green.
  • newegg Get on the Green Approach helps you zero in on the pin with Approach's Green View. Just tap the flag on the map to zoom in on the green — then you can drag the flag to position it where you see it, giving you more accurate yardage.
  • newegg Trees Ahead Tired of trees blocking your view? Approach includes Tree Line Coverage for most courses (with more to come) to help you see where trees line your fairways, further allowing you to adjust your shot.
  • newegg Keep Score Digitally Approach doubles as a digital scorecard for your foursome. After the game, you can save and review the scores on your computer at home.

1 out of 5 eggsNo green size

Pros: Cheaper than the G5

Cons: No front, and, back measurements of the green. This may not be too bad at a course you played all the time but at a new course this is critical information.

Other Thoughts: I can't believe that at the price I paid adequate green information is not provided. I would recommend not buying this unit.

4 out of 5 eggsHas Couple problems

Pros: Free updates, lots of courses but not all of them. Like the zoom feature and general appearance of the green and fairway of the hole being played

Cons: Major problem is seeing the screen in bright outside light Doesn't always update yardage when switching holes. Checking the power left in your batteries is a pain to. I don't care for the score card feature not very forgiving if you miss a score entry on a hole and go to next with out entering score

Other Thoughts: Screen visibility is a real problem but I guess maybe that might be a major factor in how long batteries last. But I personal would prefer to see the screen than if the batteries go two 18 hole rounds. Garmin does have a very good on line instruction manual that is much better than the one they send with it.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Good

Pros: The unit worked just fine and I use Nihid batterys that I change after a days use. Really helps for the iron shots.

Cons: Had to down load the maps to up date my coarse which I thought was already in, the screen is a little light but works fine.

Other Thoughts: Lots of coarses

5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding

Pros: Great device and dead on accurate.

Cons: Could be cheaper.

Other Thoughts: This should be plenty for the average golfer. The G5 does not provide anything but a slightly larger screen for more money.
