4 out of 5 eggsforget the rest - get the best

Pros: 4 stars!!! outstanding tracking time, TONS of memory, cool extra features, good color, easy to read day or night

Cons: cons - for $400 this thing should come with better maps hence the 4 stars. total Bull that you have to spend money on maps when u just shelled out that much. i can see if it was on the lesser $150 models but not this one. speaking of maps this can only hold 1 TYPE of map at a time. i own the topo maps, fishing and hunting maps, 24k maps, city navigator.... and while you can load them all through the mapsource software only 1 will show on the gps at any given time. if i load the topo all is well. if i load the fishing all is well. if i load topo and fishing only the current map you see on mapsource loads on gps. i was told that you can find barometric pressure and have it show up but cant find a way to make it show up. another thing i cant get to come up is the LAT and LON lines to show on the map like my brunton. not sure if you CAN do it either. nice thing to have mapping hunting stuff. box manual is garbage. mash'lll find what you need.

Other Thoughts: INITIAL - so here's the start of my review for the garmin 62s.

straight from the box i popped in 2 batteries, walked outside and turned it on. 1 min 40 sec later from the time i pushed the power button it found me standing on my porch when it was in twain when it booted. i turned it off walked inside and loaded just under 2000 topo maps (1954 i think) that spans 23 states and took like 30 mins to load through usb. turned it on and was back in action 1 min 1 sec later. THATS awesome! went to and downloaded the software. proceeded to go to and downloaded and saved in bulk the 20 caches per page. after getting the first 100 pages (2,000 caches) (this took about an hour BTW) i fired up easyGPS, clicked the open icon, control+A all my chache files and loaded them into the program which took like 5 seconds. hit the transfer to GPS button and in 5 more seconds i had 2,000 caches on my GPS. i then add my gamin nuvi670 car gps to my computer and upload all 800

4 out of 5 eggsRivals 60CSX Not Quite There

Pros: Awesome graphical interface. Like it better than the 60CSx but after using the predecessor for so many years it seems a little cumbersome. You get used to it when you find where things are again. For example, to turn the track log on, you now to the settings menu versus going to the track management window. It took me a minute to figure out how to get those track lines to show up again as it is not exactly intuitive.

After updating the software to the latest version. I was impressed with the accuracy of the unit. My 60 and this tracked nearly identical to each other on a 1 mile walk out and back. The reverse track lines were nearly on top of each other as well.

Cons: The body of the GPS squeaks when you press the buttons. This isn't a real concern other than build quality. The GPS functions perfectly. You also can't turn off the compass directly from the front panel anymore. This comes in handy when trying to follow a track that you took backwards and you want your direction of travel to remain on the screen in an upwards orientation.

No games either. Those are gone.

Other Thoughts: As a successor to the coveted 60CSx I would have expected all of the features of the 60 series to be in this one plus a few more. Sure you can do paperless geocaching and the screen resolution looks better with the new look, but don't take away features. You want people to upgrade and spend more money. You have to give us more. This is t
