  • newegg Includes Lifetime Map Updates Right out of the box, the nüvi 1300LM comes bundled with nüMaps Lifetime. Which means you can download the newest map data when it becomes available — no monthly fees or maintenance costs — for the lifetime¹ of your device. (FREE lifetime map updates entitle you to receive up to 4 map data updates per year, when and as such updates are made available on the Garmin website, for this specific Garmin product only until this product’s useful life expires or Garmin no longer receives map data from its third party supplier, whichever is shorter. The updates you receive will be updates to the same geographic map data originally included with your Garmin product when originally purchased. Garmin may terminate your lifetime map updates at any time if you violate any of the terms of the End User License Agreement accompanying your nüvi product. )
  • newegg Turn-by-turn Directions nüvi 1300LM has an intuitive interface that greets you with 2 simple questions: “Where To?” and “View Map.” Touch the color screen to easily look up addresses and services and get voice-prompted, turn-by-turn directions that speak street names to your destination. It comes preloaded with City Navigator NT street maps for the continental U.S., Hawaii and Puerto Rico, millions of POIs, and 2-D or 3-D maps. And with HotFix satellite prediction, nüvi calculates your position faster to get you there quicker.

2 out of 5 eggsProblems with GPS

Pros: Sleek, maps load quickly, interface is easy to navigate.

Cons: Recently, the GPS endlessly displays the message "searching for satellites" every time it is turned on.
The only solution I have found is to perform a factory reset or a "hard reset" of the GPS. Once the reset is performed, the GPS has no issues searching for satellites... but this issue occurs every time the unit is powered off, then back on again. A quick Google search will show this is not an isolated problem with this model.

Other Thoughts: When it worked properly, it was a great GPS... I was very happy with it. It did not take long for it to start showing problems, very disappointing... I paid $245 for this.

Cons: one time it couldn't connect to the satellites for about 10 minutes.

2 out of 5 eggsPor Navigation

Pros: Big screen, boots without trouble

Cons: The GPS software is slow to respond and comes up late on turns sometimes. The image zooms in as you approach a turn making it harder to judge distance to the turn. Sends you way out of the way for turnarounds instead of saying make a u turn it will route you up to 7 miles to turn you around.

Other Thoughts: Bought this to replace old Tom-Toms in our work trucks. We bought 2. The newer GPS software in these Garmin is not the same as what they used in the past. We use these daily for up to 5 locations. Tom Tom used to shut off and not come on, but the gps software was far superior to this newer garmin version. I would suggest looking for older garmin versions if GPS is the prime function you want. All the extra features these days seem to get more attention than the actual GPS making it extremely hard to find good reviews and find a good product.

3 out of 5 eggsSlow and imprecise

Pros: bright screen
clear voice
works for the most part
Ability to import locations from Google Maps

Cons: Very slow to pick up satellites when it's first powered on,
a little too slow to indicate where and when to make a turn
Unable to detect correct location of vehicle until it moves more than a certain distance
Doesn't give complete directions all the time.

Other Thoughts: I got this model to replace a nuvi 250 which is still working fine, but the maps were over 2 years old. I didn't want to pay $70 for new maps when I could get this newer model on sale for only a little more. I expected a few changes, but all I really wanted was new maps and the functionality of my old unit.

Unfortunately it doesn't work nearly as well. It's much slower all around and doesn't tell me it's time to make a turn until I'm past the turn. When I choose to go a different way, it's extremely slow to notice and recalculate a new route.

When I complete my business at one target location and attempt to go to another one, it sometimes tells me to "follow the indicated route", but there are no street names and few clues to figure out what that route is. Just yesterday I tried to exit a parking lot and all it said was "proceed to Ridge Road." I was about half a mile from Ridge Road and I was given no hint which way I was supposed to turn on the road that fronted the busin

1 out of 5 eggsSame old same old

Pros: Free Map Updates

Cons: Same old software from years ago.
The routing system commonly fails to calculate and map the most expedient route. Which is its basic function...

Other Thoughts: Garmin software is tired, the Google Navigation on my phone is more concise and reliable.

Garmin is destined to fail if they don't get innovative in a hurry.

So do buy this if you need a cheap GPS system and have extra time on your hands. Don't buy it if you have a smart phone with GPS.

5 out of 5 eggs1300LM

Pros: great GPS (see other thoughts), map update was quickest of any GPS i have used so far,,last garmin was 3.5, im likin the 1300 better much better, have not had any routing problems whatsoever, wit 70,000 mi driven in the last year

Cons: nada

Other Thoughts: was having issue picking up SATs on startup (slow) and issue with touch screen being hard to work,, went into tools and let the unit recalculate itself and wallaaa, no more problems,,, to all u people with "high" tech knowledge that r having said problems, change ur tech to LOW where it should be,, this ain't the space shuttle, just a little old GPS unit, if u don't know how to use it don't leave bad reviews,, throw the GPS away and buy a map,, maybe u can figure that out wit ur "high" tech knowlege

4 out of 5 eggsWorks like it should

Pros: It's about what I coudl expect. I got a great price over the holidays, and I'm happy with it. It usually finds the GPS signal pretty fast, too. Lifetime maps is nice =).

Cons: Even with the latest maps, it's not always the most correct, it thinks some roads still don't exist. Maybe next version...

5 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: I've only had two GPS units in my life so I'm not the most experienced ... but this one is waaaaayyyy better than the TomTom I used to have. It picks up the satellite fast so there's no lag while driving. The audio is clear (although the female voice is a little grating .... ). Very satisfied.

Cons: none
