1 out of 5 eggsDo not waste your money

Pros: At the beginning of my using this GPS, it worked fine.however, five days later, I can not turn it on, can not recharge it, until now, it refuse to work still. The worst is, when I login to return it, it is not eligible for refund. So bad!

Cons: At the beginning of my using this GPS, it worked fine.however, five days later, I can not turn it on, can not recharge it, until now, it refuse to work still. The worst is, when I login to return it, it is not eligible for refund. So bad!

2 out of 5 eggsA frustrating GPS experience

Pros: Wide, bright screen, clean display, traffic function works well.

Cons: This model has major issues. The first one I had locked-up in less than a month and had to be returned. The touch screen and interface are slow and non-reponsive at times. The POI is one of the slowest I have ever seen - it could literally search for 20 minutes and then find nothing. I'm not kidding! The Bluetooth interface is nearly worthless. It did pair for audio but it was hard to hear and you had to scream at the GPS or the person on the other end couldn't hear you. Every 12 parings or so, a miracle would occur and you could use your contacts list on the GPS. Fortunatly, someone stole this from my car and put me out of my misery.

1 out of 5 eggsStay away from this model

Pros: Inexpensive, widescreen, nice interface, bright display.

Cons: Erratic behavior, resets, shutdowns, spurious recalcs, this model is a dog, which is actually unkind to dogs.

Other Thoughts: I've owned mine for two years. Received as gift, not purchased from Newegg. The main problem with the unit is that it gets itself into a state where it won't operate for long without shutting off. It's a software problem that can sometimes be temporarily cured by a firmware update, but then resurfaces a few months later. In addition the USB drivers have reliability problems on Windows 7, the accuracy is suspect, it fires off recalcs sometimes for no reason, and has a few quality issues in the map data. All in all not Garmin's finest effort, and if you look around the web you can see my experience isn't uncommon. Choose another model.

2 out of 5 eggsWaist of money.

Pros: Nice big screen, battery life is okay, display is also good.

Cons: Too slow to process routes, too many wrong turns and recalculating. When i input location to find, I wait for directions to go, then nothing happens. i have to get going before it recalculates then work. what a waist of good money.

4 out of 5 eggsOK for basic GPS

Pros: big screen. easy to use. life time map update. firmware updates (which the latest firmware update that I applied few weeks ago seem to fix the random reboot or freeze problem and etc. I strongly recommend picking up the latest firmware update). Navigation and telling directions in general works OK, but not perfect.

Cons: Bluetooth function at least with two of cells phones that I have rarely links the phone number entries. A few times, I actually saw Phone book icon and saw the list of people that's in my phone and was able to select and make call or when I get a receiving call, it shows who's calling by the entry name. But probably 99% of times, the phone book is not linked, so I can't select people from my phone book list to call, and when I receive call, it shows phone number and not the name that's in my phone book. Also the calls tells me it's hard to hear when I talk through Garmin.

Moving around the map is pretty bad too. If you happen to click and get this bubble with info, I don't know how to get rid of that, so if I zoom in to get closer look at the area, this info bubble blocks part of the screen.

Some firmware updates ago, my unit started to freeze and reboot, but with the latest that seem to be fixed.

Other Thoughts: I didn't buy the unit I have from Newegg.
Overall, it's a good unit. If you want well functioning Bluetooth, I would go with higher model assuming they will work better. If you don't care about Bluetooth, I would go with 1450. If you still like to have some Bluetooth function like receiving a call and seeing the number that's calling, this is one is good enough though you might have to speak loud when you are driving.
Overall, I'm fairly happy with this unit.
I wish the phone book is linked more often.

As I mentioned in Pros/Cons section... Do your firmware update!
I have both 1450 and 1490 and both had similar rebooting issue since 3rd to the last firmware update, but with the last firmware update that I did maybe a month ago, I no longer see the reboot and freezing problems and I see whole lot more pictures showing the exits.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't by 1490LMT before they fix it.

Pros: Garmin reputation (not any more)

Cons: Bad screen, customer service, warranty, almost no internal memory.

Other Thoughts: After registration and updates, there is a white dot line across the screen and you can't get rid of it. My old GPSs have never given me this kind of problem, but Garmin. It is impossible to get warranty service, even to contact Garmin customer services, especially you bought online.

1 out of 5 eggsShould be recalled

Pros: Large display. Clean physical design. Loud speaker (but has continuous loud noise/buzz as well).

Cons: Displays ads (!) often yet traffic doesn't seem to work most of the time. Mine seems to display ads a lot more often than what others have described, maybe I'm in a worse "market"?

Worse: it has with trial software w/ 7 day expiration!

Very buggy: The compass gets stuck in the wrong direction (but the rest works). Search for POI often locks up. Time to destination is way off, worse than my older GPS without LT. Lane assist is hit and miss. Consistently picks weird (longer, segmented) routes in certain areas and not because of map but because of the routing algorithm.

Destination displayed in a balloon - which covers a good percentage of the map exactly where you need to see.

Power cable goes directly in the back of device, not in the windshield stand, a lot harder to operate because you cannot hold it with left hand (power in the way), needs two hands to charge!
Inaccurate touch - instead of scroll you might get click. Also it has this feel of air (hollow) under the scree

Other Thoughts: Stay away from this disaster: Garmin has bundled it with ads and 7-day trials and at the same time regressed in many areas in the GPS functionality itself. Lots and lots of bugs, some very basic (like click back and it obviously registers because it changes color, but does not actually execute the command).
Just unacceptable for a GPS, especially in this day and age when lots of smartphones have both offline and online GPS options.
